Carrie Sue
"Failed" as in: doughy in the middle/too hard on the edges? It tastes good, but can't be sliced easily and has "too crispy" edges and a "not quite done center." Ugh. I hate wasting all that time. Is a bread pudding possible? ThatCyndiGirl
Yes. I would either cut it up and make bread pudding out of it or make regular pudding and use this bread, cubed and baked as "croutons" on your pudding. YUM!!
IATeachingMom
French Toast? Leave thick slices on the counter overnight to see if the doughy center will dry up a bit. Cut the bread up into 1 or 2inch squares and toast in the oven for large bread crumbs to top something... salad,.... corn casserole.... Use toasted (or slightly dried out overnight on the counter) pieces to make break pudding? Mix the doughy parts into oatmeal at breakfast..... Warm it in the microwave, then serve with ice cream over it.... Hmmm... not sure these will work, but it was worth a shot! Good luck. Carrie Sue
Mmmm! I think I'm gonna make some pumpkin bread today! :001_smile: Hope yours does better than mine! Thanks for the ideas, all...I'm going to try toasting cubes in the oven and see what happens :)
Starr
I have a child that undercooks things. We always keep the pumpkin bread and toast it. I rather like the idea of french toast!
ThatCyndiGirl
Wow, I can't believe that I've never thought of toasting pumpkin bread! That would taste so good with fresh butter or my homemade crockpot apple butter! (It only takes ten minutes to whip up. Well, ten minutes to prepare plus about 14 hours to cook it.) ;)
lisamarie
Wait until it's a day old and then serve it up anyway. My DH babysat my bread the last time I cooked it and took it out when it was hard on the outside and gooey on the inside. I thought it was ruined. I didn't need it until the next day. I sliced it and tasted it and it tasted just fine. Everyone raved about it and asked for the recipe. Imagine what they would have said if I'd been the one to babysit it in the oven.:tongue_smilie:
Chris in VA
I'd toast it, then break it up and serve some caramel sauce and whipped cream on it.
unsinkable
I think you should examine the reasons it failed and try to remediate it. This is a homeschooling board, right? :tongue_smilie:
