Ok, I'll try!

DO YOU THINK LIKE A SCIENTIST?

1. If you went to bed at 8:00 at night and set your wind up alarm to get up

at 9:00 in the morning, how many hours sleep would this permit you to

have?

Unless you forgot to set the clock to "am", it would be 13 hours?

2. Do they have a 4th of July in England?

Sure, it's on the calendar same as here.

3. How many birthdays does the average man have?

One.

4. Why can’t a man living in Winston-Salem be buried west of the

Mississippi?

Because he's still alive? It would be creepy to bury him alive.

5. If you had only one match and entered a room in which there was a

kerosene lamp, an oil heater, and a wood-burning stove, which would you

light first?

The lamp, so I could see what I was doing. Also, I think kerosene is more flammable, so less chance of needing a second match.

6. Some months have 30 days; some have 31; how many have 28?

All 12 months have 28 days.

7. If a doctor gave you three pills and told you to take one every half-hour,

how long would they last?

1.5 hours.

8. A man builds a house with four sides to it and it is rectangular in shape,

and each side has a southern exposure. A big bear comes wandering by.

What color is the bear?

White. The house is built on the North Pole, so every side faces south. The bear is a polar bear.

9. How far can a dog run into the woods?

Not far? If he literally runs into the woods, I guess he'd be unconscious.

10. I have in my hand two U.S. coins which total 55 cents in value—one is not

a nickel. Please bear that in mind. What are the coins?

Got me there.

11. A farmer had 17 sheep—all but nine died. How many did he have left?

Nine.

12. Divide 30 by ½ and add 10. What is the answer?

(30/0.5) + 10 = 70

13. Two men playing checkers—they played five games and each man won the same number of games. There were no ties. How can you figure this?

They each playing different opponents.

14. Take 2 apples from three and what do you have?

I took 2 apples, so I have 2 apples.

15. An archeologist claims he found some gold coins dated 46 B.C. Do you

think he did?

No. The designations "B.C." and "A.C." did not happen until centuries after Christ.

16. A woman gives a beggar 50 cents. The woman is the beggar’s sister, but the beggar is not the woman’s brother. How come?

Because the beggar is also female.

17. How many animals of each species did Moses take aboard the Ark?

Got me there. I don't think they'd all fit.

18. Is it legal in California for a man to marry his widow’s sister?

Probably not, since he's deceased.

19. What word in this test is mispelled?

mispelled

20. You have four nines (9,9,9,9). Arrange them to total 100. Each nine

must be used once and only once.

(9x9) + (9+9) + 1 = 100 (The problem didn't say you can't use other integers.)

7. If a doctor gave you three pills and told you to take one every half-hour,

how long would they last?

1.5 hours.

You get the pills and take one. In 1/2 hour, a second, in an hour, the third. You don't wait 30 minutes to take the first one.

DO YOU THINK LIKE A SCIENTIST?

1. If you went to bed at 8:00 at night and set your wind up alarm to get up

at 9:00 in the morning, how many hours sleep would this permit you to

have? 13

2. Do they have a 4th of July in England? Of course.

3. How many birthdays does the average man have? Just one.

4. Why can’t a man living in Winston-Salem be buried west of the

Mississippi? It's not nice to bury people alive. Unless maybe they stole your horse.

5. If you had only one match and entered a room in which there was a

kerosene lamp, an oil heater, and a wood-burning stove, which would you

light first? Me? I'd go for the lamp, for no good reason, & end up either blowing the match out because it crept too close to my finger or dropping it on the floor & lighting the whole PLACE on fire first, rendering the choices moot.

6. Some months have 30 days; some have 31; how many have 28? Um...oh, I see. All of them.

7. If a doctor gave you three pills and told you to take one every half-hour,

how long would they last? I guess 1.5 hrs. But it's unlikely I'd take any of them, so 10+ years. Well beyond the expiration date.

8. A man builds a house with four sides to it and it is rectangular in shape,

and each side has a southern exposure. A big bear comes wandering by.

What color is the bear? Pink. If all four sides of the house can have southern exposure, I figure we're in a sci-fi, & the bear's color is up for grabs.

9. How far can a dog run into the woods? Do you mean before he starts running OUT of the woods?

10. I have in my hand two U.S. coins which total 55 cents in value—one is not a nickel. Please bear that in mind. What are the coins? A couple of old pennies that have more than 1c value? I don't know.

11. A farmer had 17 sheep—all but nine died. How many did he have left? Hmmm...do you know how much this 9lb bowling ball weighs?

12. Divide 30 by ½ and add 10. What is the answer? 70

13. Two men playing checkers—they played five games and each man won the same number of games. There were no ties. How can you figure this? One of them cheated. One of them lied. They lost some checkers. The cat landed on the game. Oh! They weren't playing w/ ea other.

14. Take 2 apples from three and what do you have? 2 apples, I guess.

15. An archeologist claims he found some gold coins dated 46 B.C. Do you

think he did? Sure. The question is really WHO PUT THEM THERE? And WHERE DID HE GET HIS DEGREE? Someone should tell him to get his $$ back.

16. A woman gives a beggar 50 cents. The woman is the beggar’s sister, but

the beggar is not the woman’s brother. How come? Well, the beggar is a woman.

17. How many animals of each species did Moses take aboard the Ark? I can't remember--is species more or less specific than kind of animal? 2-7

18. Is it legal in California for a man to marry his widow’s sister? Sounds like ins fraud.

19. What word in this test is mispelled? misspelled

20. You have four nines (9,9,9,9). Arrange them to total 100. Each nine

must be used once and only once. I don't know. 9x9=81+9+9=99...what am I missing?

DO YOU THINK LIKE A SCIENTIST?

1. If you went to bed at 8:00 at night and set your wind up alarm to get up at 9:00 in the morning, how many hours sleep would this permit you to have?

Only one if you have an old school alarm clock, 13 if it's digital (and you set it properly)

2. Do they have a 4th of July in England?

Yes, I imagine they store it between the 3rd of July and 5th of July.

3. How many birthdays does the average man have?

Just one, unless he's baptist and then two.

4. Why can’t a man living in Winston-Salem be buried west of the Mississippi?

It's illegal to bury live people, try again once he's died.

5. If you had only one match and entered a room in which there was a kerosene lamp, an oil heater, and a wood-burning stove, which would you light first?

The match. And then the lamp (if anyone is curious)

6. Some months have 30 days; some have 31; how many have 28?

All of them.

7. If a doctor gave you three pills and told you to take one every half-hour, how long would they last?

One hour. Pill--30min--Pill--30min--Pill

8. A man builds a house with four sides to it and it is rectangular in shape, and each side has a southern exposure. A big bear comes wandering by. What color is the bear?

Is he sure it wasn't a reindeer? :) White, although I ddin't think they migrated as far north as the pole. And technically polar bears have black skin and pigmentless fur.

9. How far can a dog run into the woods?

Halfway, after that he's running out!

10. I have in my hand two U.S. coins which total 55 cents in value—one is not a nickel. Please bear that in mind. What are the coins?

One is a half dollar (and therefor not a nickel) the other is a nickel.

11. A farmer had 17 sheep—all but nine died. How many did he have left?

Nine. Anyone else curious how the other eight died though?

12. Divide 30 by ½ and add 10. What is the answer?

70

13. Two men playing checkers—they played five games and each man won the same number of games. There were no ties. How can you figure this?

They did not play all/any games against each other.

14. Take 2 apples from three and what do you have?

I have two and poor Three is short two.

15. An archeologist claims he found some gold coins dated 46 B.C. Do you think he did?

Not at a dig, maybe on eBay or SpuriousCoins.com

16. A woman gives a beggar 50 cents. The woman is the beggar’s sister, but the beggar is not the woman’s brother. How come?

Either the beggar is the woman's sister or is a hermaphrodite or eunuch.

17. How many animals of each species did Moses take aboard the Ark?

None. Moses was not on the Ark.

18. Is it legal in California for a man to marry his widow’s sister?

It shouldn't be! Who would marry a dead guy anyway?

19. What word in this test is mispelled?

I didn't actually catch that the first time because I always misspell misspell. LOL

20. You have four nines (9,9,9,9). Arrange them to total 100. Each nine must be used once and only once.

I'd do $99.99 Because that might as well be $100.

DO YOU THINK LIKE A SCIENTIST?

1. If you went to bed at 8:00 at night and set your wind up alarm to get up

at 9:00 in the morning, how many hours sleep would this permit you to

have? 1 hour because it is a wind up clock, not a digital one with am/pm choices. DS1 got this wrong because he has never seen a wind up alarm clock!

2. Do they have a 4th of July in England? Yes.

3. How many birthdays does the average man have? One.

4. Why can’t a man living in Winston-Salem be buried west of the

Mississippi? He is alive, so if he is buried, it would be a crime and a travesty.

5. If you had only one match and entered a room in which there was a

kerosene lamp, an oil heater, and a wood-burning stove, which would you
