Amy in KS Posted June 11, 2011 Share Posted June 11, 2011 I'm out of town for a week. Is this something I really need to see someone about now or can it wait??? I'm having a very early period(???) seven days after finishing my last very odd cycle. I have a very tender area lower right pelvic area. It's very tender when touched in a specific area but NOT severe or shooting. I'm not in misery, just uncomfortable. My last cycle was odd as well, but I didn't have any pelvic tenderness. It was very early (7 days after previous normal cycle) and very odd in many ways. I had severe lower back cramping with lots of tissue passed and very heavy, thin, watery bleeding. If I hadn't had a normal cycle a week prior, I would have wondered if it were an early miscarriage... Normally, I'm very regular. Like clockwork regular... Right now I'm wondering what this could be... Could this be a cyst? I have a history of severe endometriosis, but it never looked/felt like this and I haven't had any trouble with it since I got pregnant nine years ago. I also have had issues with extreme bladder urgency lately and wonder if this could be related. When I realize I need to go, I usually have to run to the restroom. Very embarrassing... This may or may not be related to the pelvic problems. Clearly, I need to see a doctor, but do you think I need to be seen before I go back home? Can pelvic tenderness be dangerous? texasmama Posted June 11, 2011 Share Posted June 11, 2011 Caveat: I am not a medical professional and I have no personal experience with the symptoms you describe, but I would probably call my regular Gyn at home, ask to speak to the nurse and get some advice, then make an appt for when you return. There is an after hours number, but they clearly state that they want it called for emergencies only so the docs can attend to laboring patients more effectively. I don't think this is exactly urgent because the pain level doesn't seem ER pain bad. But then again, golf ball size pressure in a small section of your pelvic area isn't normal, either. Peela Posted June 11, 2011 Share Posted June 11, 2011 I would be concerned that you might find yourself in a difficult situation with acute pain or discomfort while away. Obviously something is not right. I would call emergency. You have nothing to lose except to be told off for not being an emergency- so what. Little Nyssa Posted June 11, 2011 Share Posted June 11, 2011 I would go to urgent care now, if there's any chance you could be pregnant, because it could possibly be an ectopic pregnancy, which can present with odd bleeding and pain, and needs to be dealt with immediately. If you have a negative pregnancy test at a clinic (not a supermarket one, they are not sensitive enough), then you could wait til you get home unless the pain becomes severe. Please keep us updated! Although I know someone who had negative tests, but did indeed have an ectopic. I think she basically had to demand the ultrasound, because they kept telling her it was nothing. tenoraddict Posted June 12, 2011 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Obviously you're going to get thoroughly checked out when you get home, but your comment about endo raises a red flag for me. I, too, had serious endometriosis (stage IV) many years ago. My youngest is almost 9, and I've had very few endo related problems since he was born...until last year. Long story short, the endo was coming back AND I had a growing cyst on my left ovary, lots of weird bleeding, etc. My specialist told me that they're finding that a lot of women who had serious endo in the past are now developing ovarian cancer. I had my left ovary removed and that has solved lots of problems. Please talk to your doctor about this, and get a baseline CA-125 blood test done (the tumor marker for ovarian cancer) so that you'll know if it changes over the years. Right now I'm on compounded bioidentical progesterone cream and I started having a period every 2 weeks again and they had to back me off the progesterone. I think if this were to happen for an extended period of time then you'd have to start looking at hormonal issues. I just read recently that abnormal cycles aren't much to worry about until they go more than 3 cycles in a row. But still talk to your dr! Tree House Academy Posted June 12, 2011 Share Posted June 12, 2011 I would hold off on the ER unless the pain gets worse or the bleeding becomes very heavy. The tenderness sounds like a cyst on your ovary. The back to back bleeding sounds totally wonky and I am not sure an ovarian cyst can cause bleeding (mine never have). Don't take my word for it because I am not a doctor...I am just relating my experience. I would absolutely be heading straight to the dr once you get home.
