Melissa in Australia
hi guys, here is a follow up on my sister. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226631&highlight=update+sister She had an appointment with a neurological specialists today( not exactly sure on the correct term) . They have a powerful ultrasound machine. They found the baby does have a complete brain:thumbup:, but there is a buildup of fluid around the brain that is putting pressure on the brain. The specialist basically told her it is a race between the fluid buildup and the baby 's time in the womb. She will have MMI scans on the baby in 3 weeks, and they are talking about her having a cesarean between 26-30 weeks. She is 22 weeks now. Hopefully she can hold out a while, the closer to 30w the better, obviously. Gosh, that is just great news!

Jean in Newcastle
I am so glad that she went to this specialist. I'm sure her heart is rejoicing even as there is still concern over the timing of the baby's birth.

NanceXToo
Thanks for the update, Melissa.... I've been thinking about you guys from time to time and wondering how things were going and hoping for the best! So far that's pretty good news, I will continue to hope that they can keep the baby in the womb long enough! I do think it's great that she's made it to 22 weeks, and I've read that from 23 weeks on, the baby could have a chance of survival if born early. She's so close! I hope they hang in there! (I read that the chance of survival is 10-40 percent at Week 23, and 40-70 percent at Week 24, 50 to 80 percent at Week 25, and at least 80 percent at week 26...the odds aren't horrible! I hope they hang in at least a couple more weeks!)
