Ottakee
I have noticed that many places are offering deals and specials if you buy a gift card. Things like a $5 gift card as a bonus when you buy a $20 gift card or a free meal when you buy $20 in gift cards, etc. I was thinking about buying some for our OWN use to places that we would typically go anyway. After all, why not enjoy the extra $5 or free meal if we would go to those places during the year anyway.
Mama Geek
I haven't done so before, but I am planning on buying some from Outback this year for my dh and me
Jennifer in MI
Sure do! I do it for things I would buy anyway. Then, I take that extra $5 and stick it in my secret stash here at home. We count that money right before we leave on a vacation. We usually have a few hundred dollars!!!
6packofun
I like to buy gift cards at the grocery store because Giant Eagle gives me fuel perks to save on gasoline when I do!
ChristusG
Yep! In fact, DH just did it last weekend. We frequent Texas Roadhouse and they were offering a free $5 gift card with every $20 gift card purchase. We bought several! We figure that we will definitely use them, so it's free money. RoughCollie
I like to buy gift cards at the grocery store because Giant Eagle gives me fuel perks to save on gasoline when I do! Same here. I also buy GE gift cards and stash them away in case we go through a time when we don't have enough money to buy groceries.
chiguirre
Absolutely! Although I did get some weird looks when I bought a gift card at AMC Cinemas and then turned around and used it to buy our tickets. But for a $10 gift card, I'll ignore the looks. MindyD
Us too! We know we're going to eat at these places anyway, so why not save the money?
CAMom
Yes, I do. At Costco you can gift cards for less than the face value. I think it's a 10% or 20% discount. And, right now my grocery store is giving extra points for gift card purchases. You get a coupon off of groceries quarterly for your points. Last quarter I got a $34 coupon off groceries.:)
3lilreds in NC
We buy iTunes gift cards at Sam's because they have a discount on them. LAst weekend we bought a bunch because with their "Black Friday" sales and their regular discount it worked out to be a really good deal! That way, I don't have a credit card linked with my iTunes account so I can't go crazy, but I have money available when I need it. We've been using our iPad more for school apps so it's good to be able to get them when I want. And then, when Bon Jovi comes out with a new album, you know, the money is there. :D

I think this is smart, too. But some places give the "free" gift cards with restrictions...like only for use between Jan-Feb.
unsinkable
I haven't done so before, but I am planning on buying some from Outback this year for my dh and me The "extra" one is only good from jan til feb 11, fyi.

Yep, I've thought about it...starting with Starbucks. :D
delaney
I only use one Starbucks card so when grocery stores do deals I buy a few more and then transfer the balances over. You get credit and free drinks when you register your card and use it.
rwjx2khsmj
Absolutely! Our favorite ice cream store does a "Buy a $25 gift card and receive $5 free" a few times a year and I always buy one (or two) for our use. Who doesn't love free ice cream!?
