Guest kimw1
Good Morning! My son is beyond the Magic TreeHouse series. I am looking for a "safe" author or series to direct him to for his Independent Reading. I recently let him come home with Wimpy Kid, but that is not the type of reading I really want him to do! Any suggestions? Thanks!

angela in ohio
We usually only read classics, so these are my recommendations. Some are about the same length as magic Tree House, but with more difficult sentence structure and vocabulary. Anderson, C. W. Billy and Blaze (series) Bulla, Clyde Robert. A Lion to Guard Us Cleary, Beverly. The Mouse and the Motorcycle Dalgliesh, Alice. The Bears on Hemlock Mountain Degen, Bruce. Commander Toad in Space (series) Erickson, John R. Hank the Cowdog (series) Gardiner, John Reynolds. Stone Fox Hall, Lynn. Barry the Bravest Saint Bernard Kimmel, Elizabeth Cody. Balto and the Great Race McCloskey, Robert. Homer Price Robertson, Keith. Henry Reed (series) Sharmat, Marjorie Weinman. Nate the Great (series) Simon, Seymour. Einstein Anderson series Sobol, Donald J. Encyclopedia Brown: Boy Detective (series) White, E. B. Stuart Little

Laura Corin
Dick King-Smith is a good author for that age: some of the books are harder, but a lot of them are quite simple and much better written than Magic Treehouse.
