Good reminder. I logged on to this site after HS Convention and was quite interested--especially in Science programs. Would love hear some feedback from those who have purchased. -

ALEKS math program -- is it worth it??
momto4greatkids replied to kailuamom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks for long reply. You validated my thoughts for this year. Aleks to fill in gaps and keep them on task combined with a program to make them think (word problems, etc.) 5th grade, Singapore 8th grade, LOF PreAlgebra with Biology (even though dd wants to do Algebra...) -

wvww vs Notgrass World History
momto4greatkids replied to BZmom's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
We did WVWW I last year but thought we had decided to do a more "traditional"course of study this year involving Gov't and AP English. However, once we studied the options at the Florida Convention, we discovered that WVWW 2 would definitely satisfy that gov't credit as well as satisfy my desire to teach government from a very foundational/principled approach. The family we do this class with also has a politically minded son (as mine is) and we were determined to provide the boys with a solid foundation. We are sticking with WVWW--which came as a surprise to us! -
Government course
momto4greatkids replied to hsmomto5's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
My son is also interested in political science and I wanted to give him a strong foundation, not just get the credit. After spending a day at the convention in Orlando last weekend studying curriculums, we decided on Worldviews of the Western World II. We had just completed WVWW I and had not considered II since we felt we needed to move on to other things. Lo and behold, WVWW II is alot of government, in a foundational way. If we find we need to supplement with a traditional text for the "functional" way government works, we can. Our son is involved with Teen Pact which also has really sparked his poli sci interests. -
10th grade schedules
momto4greatkids replied to Mrs. Readsalot's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
My son will be doing: Worldviews of the Western World II which includes Government, American Government, Composition, Philosophy and Theology Advanced Math/Saxon, IEW Advanced Communication, Latin/Ecce Romani 2, preparing to CLEP Chemistry, and perhaps the Constitutional Law online class with Michael Farris/ HSLDA. He is at Teen Pact National Convention now, and will probably want to staff the state event next year. He plays football in the fall, and swims in the winter/spring. He will attend Worldview again this summer. He will coach Upward football in the fall as well as running the sound booth at church. He would also like to prepare for a triathalon. We are looking into starting College Plus this fall as well... We have alot to sort this summer.... -
Any insights on College Plus?

Has anyone skipped Physical Science?
momto4greatkids replied to ClassicMom's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
We did General Science in 7th grade with my ds, then he had an opportunity to do Biology in 8th grade with a friend/labs. Now we're in Chemistry, next year Physics. He hasn't skipped a beat. -
I'm looking for recommendations for my homeschool group tomorrow. We want to watch a movie and critique it as we look at assumptions the director has made. We are working through "Demolishing Strongholds," a video curriculum with Ken Ham (Answers in Genesis) and Bill Jack (Worldview Academy.) I'm not a movie person anyway, so nothing is coming to mind. I would like to to be fun (it is a "party" day), but nothing too objectionable as we have guys and girls aged 12-16. You all are the best! What a find this board has been. Thank you!

MP3 players, Poetry ?
momto4greatkids replied to SeekingSimplicity's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We go to the library website and download audio books for free. They expire in 2 weeks, but we can renew. I would like to record my own stuff and download it to MP3--I think its pretty simple, I just haven't done it yet.
