Catherine
Any suggestions on how to put together a semester long architecture course, for a 13 yo seventh grader?
Capt_Uhura
How about the history of architecture? I have the Annotated Arch and it seems pretty good although we haven't started it yet.
elegantlion
Have you looked at Art of Construction or Engineering the City? Both of these books include simple experiments and IMO you could easily do both in one semester.
woolybear
Try these: http://www.homeschoolarchitecture.com http://www.eclectichomeschool.org (search architecture unit study) Also, just google homeschool architecture. There appears to be quite a bit that might be helpful. Woolybear

PeterPan
Also pursue technical drawing. The Complete-a-Sketch books are excellent (and now on cd!), though they may be a bit young for him, don't know. Some of the more challenging books certainly would be appropriate. From there he could go into a regular technical drawing course.

radiobrain
I agree with The Annotated Arch, The Art of Construction... I would also suggest any Mario Salvadori (sp?) book. There are 2 books called Why Buildings Fall Down and Why Buildings Stand Up.
nmoira
A Blue Print for Geometry, Math Projects Series, by Brad S. Harriet Vane
Another idea would be to see if he can visit an architect for a day and take a look at the kinds of things that are done there.
Kfamily
Calvert sells a three part art study: History of Art Painting, History of Art Sculpture and History of Art Architecture. This is from a larger volume by Hillyer (same author of Child's History of the World). The Architecture set would include a book, art cards and lesson plan book. We've really enjoyed this so far but we have only completed the Painting book and just started the Sculpture book. We have the Architecture book planned for next year. http://homeschool.calvertschool.org/images/Calvert_7_Sample.pdf Page 13 from this sample of 7th grade has a sample page from the Architecture lessons.
