joannqn
I found out our neighbor, a nice lady my parents' age, has no plans for Christmas beyond spending about an hour with her son in the morning. I invited her over to our house for dinner. We're having roast beef, baked potatoes, and a fresh veggie or two. The veggies will probably be broccoli and cauliflower steamed in our rice cooker (it steams PERFECTLY). I'll probably bake some bread, too. She told me to tell her what she can bring. The things is I don't need her to bring anything and I can't come up with any ideas. It needs to be something that is normally prepared dairy and soy free...I don't want to have to give her directions on how she has to prepare it and which specialized ingredients she needs to purchase. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to eat it. Of course, me not eating what she brings is ok with me. I'm pretty sure she would understand; she already knows I couldn't eat any of the baked goods she's shared with our family on several occasions. Jean in Newcastle
Perhaps some cranberry sauce? A jello salad?
SW in IL
Appetizer? Soup? Salad? Drinks? We frequently invite friends over for dinner and whenever they volunteer to bring something, I suggest soup or a bottle of wine or sparkling apple cider. Evergreen State Sue
I echo some of the other suggestions. My first thoughts were a fruit salad or a jello salad. Maybe a green salad? After dinner mints? Special beverage?
athena1277
Why don't you ask her to bring a dessert? Gotta have something sweet after a yummy meal. :D
Mrs Mungo
Why don't you ask her to bring a dessert? Gotta have something sweet after a yummy meal. :D I agree. I don't like making dessert so when anyone asks what they can bring I always ask for dessert. :)

Jen in PA
Well, you could just say, "Oh, honey, you're our guest today. You don't need to bring a single thing.
