  1. We used them both together for levels 1&2 and felt they worked well together. We just skipped any copywork in FLL since that was adequately taken care of in WWE.
  2. Thanks! My dd loves all the Little House books so I think she will really enjoy this!
  3. We are also doing Bigger this year. We just finished up our 9th week. We do like it a lot, but I will admit that I subbed out the science. We started off doing it as scheduled, but then opted to go back to Apologia because the HOD science wasn't enough for us. I do have dd still read the science books and do some of the experiments as scheduled, but I don't have her do the notebooking pages.
  4. Those are great! We are doing Bigger this year as well so I am thrilled that you shared these with us! ....off to print and laminate them now :)
  5. My dd did MFW Adventures last year, and we also found the science very lacking. We dropped it and ended up doing Apologia Astronomy. We are now into our 4th week of Bigger, and I feel the science is much better in Bigger than it was in Adventures. It is not as rigorous as Apologia, but I feel it is sufficient. Dd really enjoys it and has been learning a lot so I'm happy with it.
  6. This is what we do as well. I do feel as if we aren't really doing it "together" though. It takes less than 5 minutes for us to do the part that is together and then dd spends about 30 minutes doing her intermediate page by herself while I work with my ds to complete his beginner page. They really enjoy it, but I wish it was something we could work together the entire time and not just for a couple of minutes.
  7. Is there a downloadable version of the progress chart online for AAR Level 1? I had my ds's chart hanging on the fridge, but it came up missing and of course no one has any idea what happened to it.
  8. And here's a totally different review than the above ;) We used the colored version, and I thought it moved slowly. We hardly ever used the games or the extra "fun" things that came with it. If I were to do it again, I would just get the teacher's manual, workbooks, and readers if that is cheaper than getting the entire package with all the other extra stuff. We used the entire year of the K materials back when my dd was 4yo. They did not have the transition package available then.
  9. I have been very happy with the prices and quality of materials I purchased from Dick Blick.
  10. I used Earlybird with my dd, but my ds is now using Essentials. I much prefer Essentials.
  11. We start on July 2, and I can't wait either. I've been excited to start our new stuff for months now :) Luckily, dd is as excited as me to start her new curriculum!
  12. There are 17 pages of books listed in the book list. Each page has about 24 books listed. They are broken down by genre and grade level. I have no idea what is listed in their online bookstore so I don't know if it's more or not. I do not believe the list is available in PDF format. HTH
  13. Same here...photocopy the grid and write in the other stuff. I don't toss mine at the end of the week though, but keep them for our records.
  14. I always have my orders within a week when I order from CLE.
  15. We don't use the teacher's manual either.
  16. Your dd sounds EXACTLY like mine when we used CLE 1st grade math. We have since switched to Singapore, and it is going much better. She still doesn't love math, but she doesn't complain about math every day like she did before. I much preferred teaching CLE math though.
  17. We started with Song School Latin when my dd was 6yo/1st grade. She really enjoys it. My 4yo ds also enjoys listening in and knows several Latin words now.
  18. I'll be 35 in a few weeks, and I've never had a cavity.
  19. We will be doing Bigger next year. I'm excited to get started! We don't plan to start until the fall, but we might start earlier than that because dd and I are both looking forward to it. We finish up MFW Adventures in 2 1/2 weeks so we may just head straight into Bigger after taking a week or so off.
  20. My advanced 1st grader is doing Astronomy with the junior notebook, and we are stretching it out to cover the entire year. The notebook schedules too much to read in one sitting in my opinion. Dd definitely retains information better if we break the reading up into smaller bites than suggested in the notebook.
  21. We will be doing Bigger soon, and I debated whether to use the science in the guide or Apologia. I decided to start with Bigger's science with the idea that I can switch if it isn't working. I figure I wont be out too much $ if it doesn't fit our needs. I am trying to simplify though so that is mostly what affected my decision. I am interested to hear what others have to say about the science in Bigger though!
  22. We are doing the Astronomy book. We started out doing a lap book, but it was not our thing. We switched to the notebook and are much happier. Lots of people love lap books though.
  23. She is doing GREAT with Apologia. We are doing the Junior Notebook with it, and I am amazed at the amount of stuff that she is learning. At first glace, it seems way too much for that age, but even my 4yo enjoys listening to me read it and is picking up a lot from it.
  24. We are doing MFW Adventures this year with my advanced 1st grader, and the included science was not enough for her. She is VERY interested in science though so it may just be us. We ended up dropping it and doing Apologia Astronomy instead. I do plan to do the magnet kit with her though because I think she will have a lot of fun with it. I should also add that I am not a fan of the Usborne books so that my be why it was a flop for us. I just can't get over the layout.
