  1. Sell them....because I might want to buy them :)
  2. Abeka starts off with lots of review so dd was able to pick up any new stuff quickly. I used the teacher manual at first, but ditched it somewhere along the way once dd was reading fluently.
  3. I used McRuffy K with my dd. I didn't care for their 1st grade program either so we moved on to Abeka's 1st grade phonics and reading program. It worked very well for us.
  4. The only one with a favorite super hero in this house is my 4yo ds. His is Spiderman.
  5. Thanks for sharing this! We will be doing Bigger next year, and I was wanting to do a book basket, too!
  6. Well, I had many people tell me that MFW kindergarten was more like preschool so I decided to go with it for our preschool program. I'm just going to do it at a slower pace...three days a week, rather than five. We just started, but I think it will work out great. Looking through it, I agree that it is more of a preschool level than kindergarten.
  7. I probably would not use it because I feel the book basket adds a certain depth to the program that you wouldn't have without it. There are so many good books listed that I couldn't imagine choosing just 10. I have no idea what I would choose instead though because I feel library access is essential to our homeschooling experience since we thrive on literature rich curriculum.
  8. We are also using FLL2 and WWE2. I skip most of the copywork and dictation in FLL since we seem to get plenty in WWE as well as in our other subjects.
  9. So far, we have been disappointed in our 4-H experience. It's our first year, and I have no clue what's going on. I've asked questions, but haven't gotten adequate answers. It seems like the only think our Clover Kids get to do is participate in an art project while the rest of the group is having their monthly business meeting. Then they have the chance to go to a day camp twice a year. I thought they got to do projects, but when I asked the leader she said they don't. I was really excited about 4-H, too, but it seems to be a bust. Dd likes doing the art project, but I'm not sure it's worth it. We can do the same thing at home!
  10. We are using Rod & Staff at a grade level up. It's still super easy for her, but she really enjoys it so we keep doing it. We also do dictation so she gets practice spelling more difficult words.
  11. Some skipped pages can be torn out, but most of them are double sided so it all depends. We don't tear out the skipped pages. I'm not really worried about it looking unfinished though since no one sees it but my dd and me.
  12. DD (6) is a very good reader. I have her read aloud to me 3-4 days per week. She rarely has pronunciation problems, but she does read too fast so I'm trying to work on that with her.
  13. My kids LOVE it! They beg to listen to it all the time.
  14. We are also doing Adventures this year (on our 6th week right now) and have found the science to be too light for our tastes. We will be starting an Apologia book to go along with it next week. I do still plan to do some of the science from Adventures, but my daughter is begging for more.
  15. My 6yo dd will be starting Clover Kids this fall, too. I think she'll really enjoy it!
  16. This one looks really good: http://kidsofintegrity.ca/
  17. I started using it with my dd right after she turned 5. She is advanced though and works at least a grade ahead in most subjects.
  18. I could have written this exact post. The only difference is that I've already bought all the materials :tongue_smilie:
  19. My local library has TONS of books available as MP3 files through http://www.netlibrary.com and http://www.overdrive.com.
  20. We are using MM1 this year for my K'er. I started her off slowly at the beginning of the school year doing only 1/2 of a page per day, but now she can do a whole page without a problem. She did the Singapore Earlybird math books prior to starting MM.
  21. :bigear: I'm glad you asked this question because I was just wondering the same thing last night as I was working out our school plans.
  22. We're using both this year, but they are redundant unless your child needs help with proper letter formation. I didn't think about it when I ordered both programs so my dd is getting more than enough handwriting this year. Next year, we'll skip ARFH and just do WWE.
  23. We are using WWE1 along with A Beka Phonics, Language, and Spelling 1st grade workbooks. We don't do the extra seat work listed in the A Beka manual. It's working well for us. I don't really find much overlap between the two programs at all. WWE1 is mainly focused on narration and copywork while A Beka Language includes rhyming, suffixes, compound words, alphabetical order, etc.
  24. This is how we do it, too. Often, dd knows what she is supposed to do without me going over it first, but I want to make sure she really understands.
