  1. We have used 1st and 3rd grade of the Sunrise bible. We really like it a lot and plan to continue on with it. My kids are learning a lot and having fun doing it. I like that it is is open and go.
  2. My dd went to Getting Started With Latin after finishing SSL1. It's a no frills program but does the job.
  3. There are 27 practice lessons ( practicing letters only) plus 32 regular lessons (writing scripture verses). ETA: the scripture verses are broken down into 5 days of work while the letter practice lessons are one page each with 16 lines on each page.
  4. We used Rod & Staff spelling and Wordly Wise this year for my dd doing 3rd grade work. It didn't seem to be too much at all.
  5. We went directly from 110 to 202. I think the pretests might be a good idea after a summer break, but we weren't taking a break so I felt they were not necessary.
  6. We really like it, too! My son's blending skills really improved right away when we started using it! I wish I would have started off using it rather than using AAR! I would have saved a lot of money!
  7. My 7yo dd will finish up Singapore 2B next week. We started doing LOF a couple weeks ago and she just does a chapter a day right after her Singapore work. She really enjoys LOF so she doesn't feel like she's doubling up on her work. We may slow down at some point though since we don't have the entire series yet.
  8. I used either an NIV or NIrV depending on what was closest at the time. I believe the verses used in the book are from the KJV though.
  9. I plan to use Leading Little Ones to God with my kindergartner next year. I also used it with my dd at that age. We will also be reading thru the Action Bible as a family for our nightly bedtime stories.
  10. I have done Little Hearts and Bigger Hearts. I do believe the science is light. We started off doing the science in the guide for a couple weeks but switched to Apologia instead because it just wasn't enough for my science loving gal. I also thought some of the experiments and activities were odd. And yes, the discussion questions in the guide are usually open ended without any answers. There have been a few times where I wasn't sure what answer they were expecting to get. As far as YE, I think there was only one reference I remember in the Bigger guide to skip if you aren't YE. I don't know about the other guides, but you wouldn't be skipping a bunch in the two guides I have done. Hope that helps!
  11. We like Family Time Fitness: http://www.familytimefitness.com/
  12. I've never used Spelling Workout, but my daughter does R&S spelling totally independent except for the weekly test.
  13. We are using Zoology 1: Flying Creatures for 2nd grade right now. My 7yo dd LOVES it. She also does the regular notebook with it. We did Astronomy last year, and while she enjoyed it, she much prefers the zoology book.
  14. I agree. I opted not to use OPGTR with my ds because of the font and cramped pages.
  15. My ds also turned 5yo in September. We started AAR1 sometime in the summer before his birthday. We are going VERY slowly though. I think we are only up to about lesson 15. He can decode all the words so far just fine, but he is not fluent at all. He sounds out every single letter of every single word. I'm hoping it clicks at some point, but for now we are just taking our time with the lessons and keep going over the same stuff multiple times. I've also recently checked Phonics Pathways out at the library and have been doing some exercises with him out of it. I'm hoping it will help build fluency. Even if it doesn't help, it is at least giving us a break from the same old thing in AAR.
  16. My 7yo dd is doing CLE Reading, and it covers both vocabulary and comprehension. I feel it's very thorough, and dd loves the stories.
  17. We did MFW Adventures last year and are currently doing HOD Bigger. There is only a very small overlap in material. We have read about a few of the same people, but most of the content is new and just builds on what was learned in Adventures. Dd is not bored at all. She LOVES the history portion of Bigger.
  18. My 7yo dd is doing Bigger along with Rod & Staff Spelling 3 because she was beyond the dictation included in the manual. I do not do the dictation at all as scheduled in the guide. We do R&S spelling 4 days a week. I split the workbook up over 3 days and then do the test on the fourth day. It works well for us, and I appreciate that she can do it all on her own with the exception of test days.
  19. Ours has pictures on both page 83 and 85. The pictures are 100 blocks with parts of them shaded. I'm not sure why yours does not have pictures.
  20. We have levels 2 and 3 and the teacher's manuals are not needed. I did buy the answer key for level 3 though just to make it easier and quicker for me to grade.
  21. I'm only keeping the quizzes and tests. The rest of the light unit gets thrown away. I figure the quizzes and tests are an adequate representation of what they are learning.
