  1. the company/family that had homeschool books that they would give to less fortunate families? I would like to donate some books, but I can't seem to locate them. TIA, Cassandra
  2. I have a business account with Paypal, so I don't know if this works the same way, but, Paypal offers debit cards. This is how I go about getting my money, without them charging money to take it out. You can use it like any other kind of debit card, even like a credit card if you forget your pin number (like I have).
  3. Yes, I could backtrack and put him in CD Pre-Algebra, but now that I now he is a hands on learner, I think that maybe MUS would be the way to go. I dont know much about that program and Im not strong in Algebra. What do yall think?
  4. he is a kinesthetic learner. Is MUS geared towards this style?
  5. I know that math has been discussed many, many times on this board, but I have been off for quite some time. I have taken my 13yo son out of ps after only 7 weeks. He struggles so much in math, and Im not strong in math either. He used and passed TT Pre-Algebra last year. This year we have been using Chalkdust Algebra I with the dvds, but he struggles so much with the Algebra rules. Any opinions? I like the idea of a mastery program, but Im not sure if that is what he needs. I dont know his learning style. Maybe MUS or MEP? Thank you in advance, Cassandra
  6. the teaching technique that revolves around a child's particular interest in something, i.e., horses, cars, etc.? After homeschooling my ds last year I decided to put him (for the first time) in p.s. (8th grade). He did great in the few subjects that he was interested in, but failed in the others. He is now back home. He has a difficult time remembering things minute by minute, unless he is interested (fishing, shooting guns, crime shows). I don't know much about ADD, but I don't think that he has that, he's just a 13 yo boy that has low self esteem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Blessings, Cassandra
  7. I am thinking of starting a business that incorporates going into peoples' homes while they are away, checking to make sure their house is secure. By that I mean, no flooding, everything works, their grass is still alive, no electrical problems, etc. We live in a upper middle class to upper class town. I am trying to decide on a name. So, which name tells you what the business does: 1.__________ Home Watch Valet 2.__________ Home Valet 3.__________House Sitting 4.__________Home Sitting 5.__________Home Watch 6.__________House Watch Thank you, Cassandra
  8. Im sorry if this came across as husband bashing, that is not my intent at all. What I trying to understand, is if I am doing something wrong. Please remove this is this is considered husband bashing, as I am not trying to break board rules. But, I could really use some insight. Blessings, Cassandra
  9. This is very important, as this may mean the end of my marriage. My dh, who has no children, has said that he thinks that it is sick for me to allow my 8yo ds to sleep with me occasionally when he is away. I have two other dc, ages 14 and 13 who did this sometimes, when they were younger (I was a single parent for quite awhile). Some background: My dh comes from an abused background as a child. He is very self centered and immature (in a quite a few ways). He never really had much of a childhood, and was sent to boarding school at the age of 12. He had a slew of step parents while he was at home. I have never thought that what I did was wrong, sick, or inappropriate. I have always wore pj's to bed. But then again, I have NEVER had any kinds of inappropriate thoughts about any of my children. I was raised in a loving home, with no abuse. My Mom was abused by her father, but has never let that interfere with her children (she has 5 of her own and 4 step children). I am at a complete loss. From time to time, my children, as well as my siblings children has slept in the bed with my parents (their grandparents) when they were younger. My ds (the one that we had the argument about) has slept with his dad (after we divorced). My dh even says that it makes him uncomfortable to see me snuggling with my dc (one the couch while watching a movie). Please, please help me with your advice. God Bless, Cassandra
  10. Definitely a bikini here. I would feel weird in a one piece. Ive lived in Florida most of my life, so it is just a common thing here. Although I do ask my dc how they feel about it. I am 33 and have three kids, but you would never know it. However, I dont want my kids to feel odd having their "OLD" mom on the beach in a bikini, lol!
  11. I really liked the older editions of SWO. I have several that I am about to list for sale. If you are know which level you are looking for, you can email me and I can see if I have it. Thank You, Cassandra
  12. My dd used Abeka throughout her Christain school years, 2nd through 7th. She has just been admitted to the local community college, she is only 14yo. I cant say enough about Abeka, however, I found it entirely too hard to teach, especially as they get into tougher material.
  13. I just checked out American Eagle, and they have some good clearance prices.
  14. I have always heard that it was a gang sign. My ex husband is a law enforcement officer, and he said the same thing.
  15. My ears have done that for years, even after not wearing them for years. It is almost like a pimple, but sometimes it hurts, and I have to "pop" them. It rarely happens to both ears at the same time. I wish that I could offer some great advice, but I can't. If you ever find out what works, please post so that I can try it as well. Good Luck, Cassandra
  16. I was soo disappointed when we had to file and extension because our business taxes werent finished in time. But the good news is that we will be getting a refund. I am using it all to pay off credit cards bills. We have been working HARD to become debt free. God has been sooooo good to us!
  17. That really concerns me. Where we live in FL, there are no bus routes. Although the stores are relatively close, with three children, and one starting college, I wonder what all I can do. My dh owns his own business that travels around town all day. Something needs to change, at what level, I just dont know. Cassandra
  18. This is sooo sad! I cant imagine how I would feel if that were my child.
  19. My dd will be almost 18, but she is already taking CC classes, so she may be finished with her bachelors degree at the age of 19. She has always been an advanced student, and we are very proud of her. My ds will finish at the age of 18, but I am not sure that he will be able to dual enroll. We'll see if he starts stepping up to the plate with responsibility and maturity, hopefully sometime soon!
  20. As homeschoolers, we decide when we put our kids into school, so why not when they finish? Like it was stated, colleges don't care how old we are when we start, so I think that you should do whatever is best for your sons. God Bless, Cassandra
  21. I do think that we are going to see a trend bake to more homecooked meals. My mom just bought a bread making machine. Ive never seen her make bread before, and the cost of bread going so high, among other things, I am even thinking of buying one! And that is saying ALOT! Lol! Cassandra
