Gift help: Knitting Book & Circular Needles...
LarlaB replied to LarlaB's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I was thinking about an interchangeable set, but I'm not certain that it would be worth the cost. I just found this set on Amazon- a variety of sizes, in bamboo (which I know she likes) for only $20 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001YI0MIC/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A3B94LN4HU9F7O. (I learned to knit w/ online tutorials as well-LOL, but my mom has dial up internet and a strong aversion to computers) Thanks for the book suggestions- I am looking at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1931499047/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER and http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157120427X/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER -

:iagree: I abandoned IE many years ago, then used Firefox until it started getting super slow- now using Chrome, but DD's computer (my old lap top) still runs Firefox :)

Homeschooling in Kentucky--what's it like?
LarlaB replied to Jayne J's topic in General Education Discussion Board
This is my 2nd year HS in KY (and my last- we're moving to Colorado this Summer) and IMHO its very easy. :) I send a letter of intent each fall, aim for 177 days of instruction and keep a planner & portfolio (for my own sake) and that's it. :) I've never heard of anyone being checked up on- even talking to many friends at co-op who have HS for years. :) I think its a great idea to live on the KY side of Cinci.... from what I've heard/seen, Cinci has a very active HS community and lots of city amenities (I'm in Lexington and there's very little to do- LOL) Good luck! -
books. I know there are limited time offers on free books etc (at least I've heard this from others) but don't know where to find them, nor do I know if I can 'get' them before I actually have a Kindle. I've looked in the 'limited time' section on Amazon, but wow- its a bunch of crapola. Where do you go to score limited time 'freebies' (I know there are tons of free books everyday) or how do you get a 'heads up'? Thanx! Laura

First, send hubby with list & chatter while he drives the 90 minutes to Costco, then talk him thru the shopping list/impulse buys while you sit & watch a movie w/ the kids. Make sure he has to double-back to get a forgotten item (at least once) and that the cart is almost filled to the brim, but then hang up right before he reaches the check out so you don't have hear the total. I made sure he got himself a little something for his trouble- a $1 churro. :tongue_smilie:

I'm neat & tidy :tongue_smilie: I'm usually cooking while doing several other things, so its easiest to follow a base recipe and then expand as needed. :) Of course there are the go-to recipes that are from memory...but I try to cook new as much as used, and always follow the exact recipe at least once. :) Actually, I cannot stand when people say "take this & this and THROW it into a pot"...:blushing:

Couch 2 5k & WT runners
LarlaB replied to stormy weather's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have asthma as well, and have found it is possible to run w/out meds. I can somewhat control it by watching my exertion level, but mostly by making sure I focus on deeeeep breathing. So starting out, its key to take lots of breaks and not push too hard/too long...I started out w/ intervals and built from there. Where-ever you're at- walk 2 minutes, run 1 minute and go from there. So to answer your question, NO I would not recommend running everyday. You need a break to recover mentally/physically- the recovery is where the gains are made. Good luck! -

Recommend some kitchen equipment
LarlaB replied to mum's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I love kitchen gadgets, but prefer those that are multi-purpose or frequently used because well, space is limited. :) 1. Immersion Blender: soups, salad dressing, shakes, 2. Hand held mixer (I have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for big deals, but wow- the hand held is sooo much easier) 3. Microplane (fine grater/zester)- nutmeg, citrus zester, parm cheese etc 4. Pampered Chef Chopper (nuts, garlic/onions/peppers, cranberries etc) I am getting a panini press for Christmas that will double as indoor grill. SO excited!
