  1. We had 2 of the most wonderful people care for my grandmother through hospice. They were amazing, both with her and our family. Also, we were told by the hospice care worker that it does happen that they release patients from their care as they sometimes unexpectedly recover.
  2. :iagree: TOTALLY. I wanted to toss Homer out the window several times, but I just got my Diogenes Maxim, and I see that it is going where I had only dreamed it would be headed. I, too, now see what the fuss is about. :iagree:I also agree with Heather's comment about believing in what you are using-no matter what curriculum you end up choosing.
  3. Yep, that's me. Math makes complete sense and I have never found it a problem-even enjoyable. As far as my comprehension of science: I still think planes fly because of pixie dust and you record on dvds just like wax records. :D
  4. Hey Brindee! Haven't seen you around for a while. Here's what my 8th grader is up to: Math: TT-Finished Alg 1 and into Alg.2 Writing/Grammar: CW- finishing Homer Older Beg. and cont. with Diogenes Lit.: TOG-Year 3 History: TOG-Year 3 Science: Abeka Foreign Lang.: Wheelock's Latin and German by Rosenburg Philosophy: TOG-Year 3 Geograhpy: TOG-Year 3 Violin/Piano Lessons
  5. I must wear my watch at all times...must. I just can't emphasize that enough. :D
  6. I just tried it and had no trouble connecting, and I have AVG. dunno
  7. :iagree:This is what I do. I did buy a printed copy last year, but I won't be using at many cycles as some people, so I didn't need to use page protectors. If I were starting TOG with young ones and planning to use it through several cycles, I prob. would use page protectors.
  8. Thank you all for the responses and a special thanks to those who gave words of encouragement. She has read the replies and it has given her food for thought. Like I said before, we are on Ch. 10 of Wheelock and it has become a challenge for her for the first time, and today she had a minor melt-down. She really needed to read this. Thanks again everyone!
  9. I explained the same thing about something a simple as a doctor visit. If he gives you a prescription and tell you to take it sub-lingually, you will know exactly what he means. I realize there are much broader benefits-I was trying to show her something practical, as she doesn't like dealing in abstracts. Thanks for the additional reply. She is actually feeling better and keeping those 3rd conjugations straight might not cause her a headache tomorrow.:D
  10. :iagree: We've been at this 2 yrs., BUT this year it is full on (ya' know-actual work;)) We are on Ch. 10 of Wheelock and she is really finally having to give effort-it has always come very easily to her in the past- and that is the origin of the complaining. Thanks for the reply -she will be reading it.
  11. THANK YOU for your response. She is staying in the Latin boat. regardless;)
  12. She just wants to know that she is not alone, so she asked that I post a poll.:glare: She wanted to learn it. I want her/them to learn it. We. will. persevere. Thank you for your help:D
  13. successfully practicing avoidance of laundry :001_smile:
  14. I was a confirmed batter-eater..until I got salmonella. I was so very sick. Now I no longer eat batter and I have an empty spot in my heart that the batter flavor used to fill.:crying:
  15. Your use of the phrase 'pissed someone off' is offensive to me.:D I am SO kidding, but I couldn't restrain myself. :tongue_smilie:
  16. Me: Had to know them. I went to schools that used Abeka in elementary. They were hardcore on those math facts. Dh: never had to memorize, but is very strong in math-has a MS in atmos. sci. He is slow to give answers to mult. tables and he was not taught long division in the traditional way. I can't even explain how he does it.
  17. It really would be great either way. We did it after the study and the girls loved being able to see what they had read/learned.
  18. We have 4 bedrooms-enough for each girl to have her own room. And they were happy to have their own for awhile. They have now chosen to share the biggest room together and I couldn't be more pleased.:001_smile:
