  1. I've been to 2 performances and have a dvd. They are entirely family friendly. It's a great show.
  2. :iagree: I've used it for 2 yrs for D and R levels and this is how I see it as well.
  3. My dd finished Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 and that was a lovely piece. She is now polishing Mozart's Alla Turca, which she is really enjoying. She is getting the nerve up to start Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique which is what she really wants to tackle as a challenge piece.
  4. Saw it earlier today. It is very sad. His life had been a disaster in these last several years.
  5. Love beyond words: Tapestry of Grace It was a hard won love, but I now adore: Classical Writing
  6. :iagree:Mine are very close in age, and I started this method when they were about the ages of your dds. They are now best friends. Glad you found something that has brought peace to your home.
  7. We went to Kitty Hawk and the Biltmore. state history-done. There is a school here that does an entire year of state history in the elementary grades. I can't imagine it.:001_huh:
  8. I have had next to no Latin experience (Latina Christiana 1&2 only). I bought the Comprehensive Guide. Honestly, I think I have cracked it open twice this year. I find really doing-really doing- the workbook has been the biggest help in solidifying the info. Even when we(my girls and I) have not initially understood what we were doing in the workbook, as we stuck to it, it became much more clear. If I had it to do over, I would not have purchased it. my < $.02 hth
  9. Yeah, I've been around-high school boards mostly. pm'd you.
  10. Hey, NC neighbor. Congrats on the purchase, but I am so out of touch with that age group I have NO idea what PR is:D. Have fun with your continued obsessing/planning.
  11. The only one I know of is TRISMS, but other than seriously considering at one point, I have no experience with it. sorry http://www.trisms.com/
  12. I thought they were a bit strange also. Thanks for including what Marcia said about 'classic'. This is a tough year lit. wise. The girls are not very pleased with many of the selections. hmm... off to ponder.
  13. I am doing Y4 next year as well. I just read All Quiet... and it is a good book, but it is very graphic and I realize that is the author's point. For my girls though, I think the images would be entirely too strong, so I will be substituting. If you don't have a particularly sensitive reader it would prob. be fine. Also my dh read Siddartha and he felt the sexuality of the book was pretty strong so I will substitute for that one too. That is just for our kids and our situation. I also, will be mixing in some dialectic (Lord of the Flies) and looking more closely at some of their alternatives for rhet. My Side of the Mountain would probably be too light and I haven't read the others you mentioned. hth
  14. If you were at the one in Raleigh, we may have been there at the same time! Welcome to hs'ing and to the boards.
  15. poor guy. Please give him my sympathies. My dd just lost her hamster last week. Those little pets do find their ways into our hearts. :grouphug: to your ds.
  16. I had oldest dd (for whom math is not difficult) do 7/8 in 6th, but I didn't feel that she had the maturity to make the huge strides that would be required for Alg.1. I had her do 1/2 in 7th and was then able to start her with Alg. 1 about half-way though 8th grade. My 3rd dd (for whom math takes more effort) will do 7/8 in 7th and most of 8th and then move onto Alg. 1, without doing 1/2 at all. In our case 7th grade(12yo) was too young for what Alg. 1 would require in the later part of the text. hth
  17. I prefer to be up by 5:30, lately it runs closer to 6. I'm in bed around 11:30 or 12. I wish I could get by on less sleep. It has always seemed like a great waste of time:lol:
  18. :iagree: I've never needed very much, and I don't get tired during the day. I prefer to get 5, but I need 6, and if I sleep over 7, I feel exhausted all day.
  19. :iagree: I am exactly the same way. Even if dh has to get up at 4:00am for a flight, I can wake my self up within 10 min. of that time. I've never needed an alarm clock.
  20. It isn't a test, and you certainly aren't writing it for him. My dh writes papers for publication in prof. journals all the time and often will ask others to proof-read for the types of errors that you mentioned. That doesn't make it less of his own work. I see no ethical problem with editing suggestions. -just my $.01
  21. If the word panties makes you nuts, how about this one- I call my dh's boxer's 'man panties' just to watch him cringe. btw- I hate the word panties also, but really enjoy bugging my easy-going dh.
  22. My dd had this reaction to strawberries when she was very young. It went away as she got older and as we gave her very small amounts of strawberries infrequently.
