  1. Thank you for the tip. I've requested the book from the library.
  2. I'm hopeful we'll get more accomplished this summer than we did over the school year. My priorities are: Memorizing math facts Starting MCT Island level SOTW 1 More typing practice
  3. I'm hoping to restart SOTW this summer with my son. We will read the book while listening to the audio book. I work full time so we won't be doing any of the activities.
  4. Ack! Only 23 days left of 2nd grade. :001_huh: It's gone by fast.
  5. I had a similar experience, although I only have one child. I went to a Hypnobirthing instructor with both my mom and husband. We actually had a private course and started around week 30. It was a tremendous help for me and my mom served as my Doula (she had 4 natural births, so she had experience). My husband was more stressed out and nervous, I'm glad my mom was the doula. My husband wouldn't have been able to support me the way that Hypnobirthing recommends. I don't recall any pain besides menstrual type cramps. I pushed for 3 hours. My birth wasn't perfect, but I avoided drugs and a c-section with a 9 pound 8 ounce baby. I really loved the Rainbow Relaxation track from Hypnobirthing.
  6. I agree. I helped my son learn to read with Hooked on Phonics prior to starting kindergarten. He's always been a strong reader and still is in 2nd grade. Personally I didn't want to wait and see how and if the school would teach my son to read. I took responsibility for it. Good luck!
  7. Thanks Bill! Thanks for the info about Grammar Island. It seems to me I could preplan what we are reading in the TM and cover up the answers with a post-it note or something. The books look great. That's so great to hear your mother was impressed. I can't wait to get it!
  8. Awesome, thanks. I plan on buying the whole "basic homeschool" kit and if we can get to the other two books we will. I'm hoping my son will love it. Thanks for the info!
  9. I'll be going to the open house in a few weeks, so I'll ask if it is Town level. I looked at the MCT schedule on Satori Smiles. I was overwhelmed because I know we can't do it all. Building Language and Music of the Hemispheres may have to wait. Thanks so much for the reply. We're really hoping he get's in! :)
  10. I'm glad you asked this question, I'm wondering, too. We applied to a gifted school for my son for next year (3rd grade). Their curriculum list says they use: "Ceasar’s English by Michael Clay Thompson" and Grammar Series by Michael Clay Thompson. We simply haven't had enough time to afterschool in grammar. I'm wondering what I could do to help prepare for next year but don't have a lot of money or time. :)
  11. My son goes to a charter. -I love the small school, everyone seems to know each other. -I love the small class sizes. -Parents are encouraged to be involved. -They do a great job informing parents of events and news.
  12. Wowzers, 50 in 90 seconds? I have been drilling my son to get him to 100 facts in 5 minutes.
  13. Thanks Pamela. I understand what you are saying. If we are going on 9 or 10 I'll look into the big guns. :) My brothers had this issue until their early teens so I'd rather take care of it earlier than that.
  14. Anyone have any success with supplements? I've been thinking about trying magnesium/calcium supplementation since reading this thread last year: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173657 Our doctor recommended waiting another year last year. My son recently turned 7 and bedwetting runs in both sides of our family.
  15. :iagree: It was slow and repetitive for us. We tried. I would love to find something else.
