  1. All the reviews of it i found here on WTM were dismal so we decided not to use it. Like, people said it was the only grrat course they ever asked for their money back on.
  2. We used it, the first 2 books recommended in fundafunda, at least. It was ok. Not my kids thing though. You can skip it & still do the rest of the fundafunda syllabus, its a very full course.
  3. 3 is really hard for us too right now. Im not even consoled by the fact that she'll be 4 this summer, cause her even harder younger brother just turned 2 & I know that 3 is coming soon for him too! The teens have a tough time with the littles- theyre so intense!
  4. It IS a weird list of classes, isn't it. And why can't all the CCs offer the high school rate?!
  5. Well, we're closing on our new house in town tomorrow. Fixed little things in current house, but are listing it as it is, as soon as we get out of it ( trying to show it with 4 kids living in it wasn't my idea of fun). Over the years we've done a lot of work, but to sell, we replaced 2 old linoleum floors & patched holes in walls, replaced a rotten bathroom vanity, took down wallpaper, painted, etc. still need to replace kitchen faucet. Are not replacing a skylight that leaks or tile floor that pops tiles constantly (mostly because it's impossible to get contractors to show up to do work in this area). I'm happy to knock down the price or give an allowance if need be. We'll see what happens. Ours is in a unique location with 50 acres. Good luck! Buying & selling kinda sucks.
  6. Ok thanks, I thought so once you said how far away it was from you. Trying not to seem like a stalker. We'll stick with HVCC & our local one, good to know.
  7. Oh, we had the problem with last semesters programming class that their files were too big for the college submission system to upload, so he had to turn in his final project on usb. We dropped it off, but couldve mailed it ahead of time.
  8. Can you PM me which CC youre talking about? We're in the same state & I think only 2 CCs offer that cheap rate for high schoolers. Im planning on ds taking one through one of them next semester. Thanks Ds is taking one this semester listed as "hybrid" , so we had to pay a distance learning fee. He logged in yesterday when it opened & turns out, it can be online or in class, whichever the student prefers. Ds will be on campus already (back to back classes & our new house is walking distance away) so will do it in person. Thats not hybrid. Annoyed by the extra $68 charge.
  9. Good call. I had a nurse for my child who I loved but who cancelled more than she showed up & we never let her go, I just couldn't bring myself to find, interview & hire someone else (same thing, no agency, had to find our own staff). It really caused issues for our family, not having reliable nursing care. Hope you find someone good.
  10. Hmm, over the years I've done a lot. Not to "serve" other homeschoolers, but to be sure there was stuff for my kids to go to, I admit, & only a few other moms were stepping up to offer it. Let's see- started a homeschool 4 H group with another mom. I bailed after a few years, she's still at it, 10-11 years later. Started another 4 H group, only lasted one year. Started a co op with another mom & ran that for 4-5 years, taught classes at it almost every meeting. Lots of work, not very much co op in our co op. Ran our local newsletter for a few years. Set up some field trips (but my kids hate them, so only a few) Helped plan group camping trips & park/ beach days, & year end/ year beginning picnics. Set up monthly social activities for our teen group. Offered "new homeschoolers support group" a few times. Try to answer questions on our local fb group, mostly the ones about how to homeschool kids with IEPs. Been at this 11 years now in our location. I'm not running or setting things up anymore, other than teen socials. The things I did do- the Co op was the biggest time & energy commitment & I did it with newborns (we Foster) and a medically fragile child who was mostly bedridden, often inpatient. So, I don't have a lot of understanding for moms with just 1-2 kids who say they can't plan or teach a co op class because "it's just too much for them". I had to hire a nurse to stay with my kid to be able to come to co op or shop for the supplies for classes I taught. And if due to medical emergencies, I couldn't attend that day, I made sure to get my class supplies & instructions to another mom to cover for me so the kids would still have a class that day. Pet peeve for me that if your kid has the sniffles, you cancel your co op class & all the kids attending that day have to be watched by someone else (as leaders, we tried to have last minute craft class plans ready each week) Ok, I still have some resentment about that one, obviously. But- since a couple of us quit running stuff, a few new people have started new stuff up. That was nice to see. We have not participated, too busy with high school, DE, extracurriculars, but others are. So, great.
  11. Yes, finding our space was always difficult. It involved calling & visiting & sending proposals to a bunch of churches & community locations and following up with them and purchasing a group insurance policy.
  12. Right, but if you choose not to do activities with other homeschoolers, then you aren't the ones "always taking" but never contributing :) It's the families who want all these homeschool things offered in their towns & want to attend them, free, please- (co op, classes, art & language lessons, dance, PE for homeschoolers, park day, field trips, play dates), but never in their 10 years of homeschooling have they ever SET up an event. And eventually, the 3 moms who did all the arranging & teaching for those years get tired of it & stop, and then people are like "there's not enough stuff for my homeschooled kids to do here", but still won't set up a field trip or park day. Or if they do, they do it once & say, "oh wow, it's too much work to set stuff up, I can't handle doing that again". Cuz, it wasn't hard work for us all those years, right? I get that some people have a hard time setting things up, but really, in an area with a few hundred homeschoolers, it can't just be only 3 families running all the homeschool stuff= recipe for burnout.
  13. Help me with this. DS is taking the SATs for the first time this month. Will re take in May. You can send test scores for free if you list the schools now before the test. Should he wait until May to list schools & then have all scores sent at once (do they send the older scores too then or would we have to pay to send them then?) He knows which schools he wants them sent to, but will hope to score better in May (all his choices super score anyways). I guess my question is, should he bother to list schools right now for the Jan test? Or wait till May? Thanks
  14. Cameras can work underwater. Hang in there. Locally, a whole neighborhood has had to redo the lines that run from homes to street as they fail in the older homes. Runs around $6,000. Sorry Hope it's an easier fix
  15. anything Eric Carle. For 2-3 year olds- also the Llama, Llama board books. They are shorter than the regular ones. They are perfect for my own 2 &3 years old, who don't sit for other books. Definately repeat books. She could add fingerplays & songs maybe too.
  16. Congrats! Ours are really hoping to move on this year :)
  17. I did get him a pair from ll bean with a gift card, but he prefers the Dockers very thin stretch dress ones. (Sensory issues)
  18. OH, that may be why they are almost sold out in most sizes/ colors at jcpenney & Dockers online.
  19. Are expensive! Even with a coupon code. Just ordered 2 new pair for teen, who needs them for his internship. He wears an unusual size, so can never find them in stores or thrift shops. Geez. Carry on. That is all.
  20. Our first competition is this weekend coming up. This is our third year & the first time that the kids are really positive about their robot going into competition week. The challenge this year seems much easier than last year with those darn ramps!
  21. Turns out, the moms like pretty Waldorf stuff way more than the kids do ;)
  22. There will probably be last minute dress rehearsals for the competition too in those last few days, I'd bet.
  23. Guard, for sure. And this post is making me want to go out & twirl something ;) no flag here anymore, but I can still flip a broom around in the air pretty darn well, lol. Ah, the glory days. (Um, just kidding bout that part)
  24. So, he likes travel(has he been able to plan a real possible trip ever?). Does he like travel shows on TV,learning about different cultures, maybe a language (not Latin, lol). Have you looked into teen travel opportunities, culture camps, etc? He likes pens& writing?has he tried calligraphy or art classes? Taking the dog for a walk & petting him- any interest in other animals or something to do with animals... Pet sitting, dog walking, volunteering at animal shelter, feral cat society, 4 H, dog training, therapy pets I'd Continue to share things you think are interesting. Just like we do for friends or spouses. But dont be bummed because they arent his thing. He'll find something :)
  25. Down 1.3 and up 0.6 Stupid living in the country DSL. At least we have that, a lot of my friends here don't have anything at all available to their houses. Eta- i thought for sure mine would be faster than Kinsa's ;)
