  1. I don't think you're a baby. I complain about that stuff all the time. Just ask my even-keeled, never-ever-complains-about-anything DH! I hate when I can't find my favorite brand of something. Also try Vitaglo.com. Their prices are great, and they have free shipping over $50.
  2. Whew, thank you, I feel better now! :D My problem is that my dearest-held dream is that I will one day be neat and organized and calm and in control, and I am in search of the Magic Planner that will make my dream come true. My head knows it does not exist, but my heart keeps hoping. *sigh* I also keep trying to design my own, but by a few hours into the process, the thing has so many pages and sections, it's already so completely disorganized and overwhelming that I can't even bear to finish the project, let alone use the thing. You see where I'm going with this, of course. Thank you for talking me down off this particular ledge (for now), LOL!
  3. Erm...could you share what the planner is? I'm a planner junkie, so I probably shouldn't be asking you to enable me, but I'm just dying to know, LOL! Can you link to it somewhere?
  4. Oh Beth. I've never heard anyone else sum up exactly how I feel about this, but that's what you just did. I've been doing a lot of soul searching about this recently, and what you just said is exactly the place I've come to. Thanks for saying it for me! And this has been a wonderful and thought-provoking thread. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share their thoughts.
  5. And this particular line of bull always makes my blood simply boil. How on EARTH did the human race survive all this time without protein and vitamin supplements, I wonder? Gah!
  6. This. That's horrifying, and I'd be looking for a new doc who had a little respect for me pronto. I would NOT begin documenting calories for this jerk unless I had a concern based on my own personal knowledge of my own child. I would be writing a letter detailing why I was leaving the practice and taking my ideas, my children, and my insurance $$ with me. My own ped doesn't agree with some of my opinions and parenting practices, but he at least respects me enough to discuss my thoughts and experiences like an adult, and even learn a few new things (he was very impressed with our cloth diapers, for example, and had no idea people still used them). Honestly, I'm outraged for you  :p
  7. Oh, my mouth literally started watering at the idea of the maple sugar. So lucky!!! And a good library is irreplaceable, I think :D
  8. At Paperbackswap.com, if you don't have books to give away (or are just terrible at actually getting things in the mail, like me), you can buy credits for $3.45 (maybe $3.75?) each, which you can use to order books from other members. If you can find the books you need listed there, or are willing to wait for them to come up, that method is the cheapest I've found outside of library/thrift store/garage sale books (which I find to be needle-in-a-haystack kinds of things anyway).
  9. Turns out my fresh cranberries hung around too long and I couldn't use them in the muffins I already started. Can I substitute craisins? Do I have to rehydrate them first? Should I just use the frozen blueberries I keep for snacks for the girls? Dang it! I was really looking forward to fluffy muffins with juicy, fresh cranberries :( TIA!
  10. Can you have laughing gas? I'd never get through any dental work without it. I have to have laughing gas well in effect before I can even have the local anesthetic shots, but as long as I can have the gas going, I'm off in la la land and never feel a thing. I had an upper molar done and was terrified beforehand. The RC itself was so easy. I did have some aching afterward, but now that I think about it, like sclisa said, I think that was actually from holding my mouth open. What did hurt afterward, a LOT, was the temporary crown he put in. I don't think he seated it properly at all. I didn't know this until (long story short) he had to remove it and then replace it. After he replaced it, it felt completely fine. I think that was just a fluke. The insertion of the permanent crown was a snap too. Laughing gas. Seriously. I'm considering requesting it for cleanings :D
  11. Well, it's not exactly the same, but you could look for your favorite people this way: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/memberlist.php When you find them, you can click on their name to get their profile and see all the posts they make. You can also do the same thing when you see they've posted in a thread--clicking on their name will give you a drop-down menu where you can choose to see their posts. Not exactly a one-page scan, but close!
  12. Hmm, let's see. This should be interesting! I was up until 3 a.m. doing laundry (and watching CSI: Miami ). Overslept, woke at 9:30 and ran around frantically trying to get myself and the girls ready for library book fair. Got to the library book fair, only to discover they were only offering cheap romances and mystery paperbacks  Spent an hour there with grumpy kids and puppets. Went back home and spent 45 minutes at the park without my coat before I couldn't take it anymore! Came home, fed kids lunch and ran around frantically trying to clean up bathroom and stairs before babysitter interview. Convinced DD5 to clean her own room! Did interview. Put DD2 to bed and let DD5 watch two episodes of Cyberchase while I spent a much needed hour resting and finishing a book. Figured out what I need to to buy from Just Tomatoes co-op and how much it will cost  Played Sleeping Princess board game with DD5, helped her pack her bag for sleepover tonight, fed them a snack, and got them ready to go. Seems like I was really busy, doesn't it? Why do I feel like I spent the whole slothing around???
  13. This site can be a bit overwhelming, but should have something you can use: http://diyplanner.com/ Or this is a simple one: http://www.organizedhome.com/printable/showphoto.php/photo/36/cat/502
  14. Oh man, I really wish I'd read this whole thread before I made these! *sigh* Oh, and *anj*!!!
  15. What are the things you rely on to keep your days running (relatively) smoothly? I'd love to hear everything, large and small. For example, I asked this once a long time ago on another board (not HSing-oriented), and one of the best tips I received was to put shoes in a basket by the entrance door as we came in. I'd never done that before, and it was great. I started making loose lesson plans, and that helps a ton. But I'm sure there are a million things I haven't thought of. Can you share if you have a moment? Thanks!
  16. I have a recipe for a delicious potato soup with ham and grated cheddar cheese--yum! If you want it, let me know. If you have enough, you can also put it in a pot with a can or two of coconut milk and a can or two of pineapple chunks and cook it through. Sooo good.
  17. Yep, we love these. Both girls could live in them. I watch eBay for them and buy them in lots for $13-$14 per dress. I stock up in future sizes too!
  18. Two words for you: security system! I had lived in multi-unit housing for 10 years before we moved into this house, and I was SOOOO paranoid about being alone at night. I'd be closed off in the corner room, nursing the baby to sleep, and have these visions of someone breaking in at one of the many new points of entry :( We finally activated the old security system and it gave me a much greater sense of safety. It's not foolproof, obviously, but at the very least, it would let me know if anyone got in through one of the doors and/or crossed the dark basement (motion sensor). Yeah, I'm easily freaked out these days!
  19. I don't think there's a smiley in existence that provides a sufficient response for this. How very, very disturbing. Your poor little guy! You know, this is the kind of thing I envision in my future with my DD2, LOL!
  20. Yes, I agree. The numbness and tingling part would scare me very much.
  21. We use all-natural stuff now, but I always really liked Gold Bond lotion. It feels like it has the powder incorporated within, and it's nice and velvety.
