  1. :iagree: This is my dh as well, he knows I'm on hear a lot and he knows it's a board of homeschoolers, but he doesn't get it.
  2. :iagree: :iagree: We were broke and never had a honeymoon. We had kids quickly and still to this day have never had any sort of "just us" vacation. :iagree: I agree with the bolded part. I think that if you choose to marry at a young age like that and your not already financially well off (or have helpful financially well off parents), then you must be very mature and ready for making important financial decisions.
  3. Thanks for sharing this! I am pretty much the same as you were (5'3'', 124lbs) and my goal is this same. I guess I was getting a bit over excited, it's good to know because I probably would have thought something was going horribly wrong.
  4. Yes this was funny too! I think it's important to see WHOLE speeches, both Obama's and Meyer's. It shows things balanced and in context with the venue.
  5. :iagree: There are so many behind the scene logistics that would have had to have taken place for that operation to go so smoothly. I agree his rational, careful thinking skills were certainly critical. He didn't get all hot headed, let's blow them up about it. He wanted it to be thorough, precise, and safest for all parties involved, including the civilian population surrounding the compound. It took guts to do it this way.
  6. Here's a link to the whole speech if anyone is interested: I found it to be really funny and tasteful considering the venue. Michelle Obama looks beautiful btw, I love her style.
  7. :grouphug: Wishing you speedy recovery!
  8. My sister's dh went away on work for one night (he doesn't usually travel) and my sister borrowed her neighbor's dog for the night! He sat next to the front door and she slept on the sofa.
  9. I used to, but I had to finally just get rid of them. My closet was filled with clothes even though I only wore 1/3 of what was in there. It was hard, especially because I tend to be a pack rat, but it's also nice to know that I can reward myself with a couple of new things if I lose these extra pounds!
  10. I'm the same way.:grouphug: Here's my paranoia: I usually have the kids sleep with me and lock the bedroom door. I also put one of those door jam thingys you can buy from Lowes on the door to the basement. And I leave the tv on espn and turn the volume off. And I leave some random light on like the bathroom. Sometimes I just sleep on the couch because I keep thinking someone is in the basement when I'm upstairs. Yes, I've got issues....
  11. :svengo: Oh how I would LOVE your housekeeper, does she ever travel to Virginia?:D
  12. I've had this same dilemma in my head numerous times (each of our 8 moves in the past 7 years). I almost always end up just taking it all to the Goodwill or donate to the Vets or putting it up on Freecycle. If I really think something is valuable enough to sell quickly without much hassle I put it on Craigslist. I wince at the thought of how much money I could have potentially made, but ultimately I'm not up for the work with going through with it. I try to console myself in knowing that hopefully another family/person is enjoying the item.
  13. Yes, it's best to just agree to disagree. It's been a lovely conversation though and that's what I love best about this forum.:D
  14. is on now. http://www.oakmeadowbookstore.com/
  15. This is great, thanks for sharing! I'm sure ds6 would be much more pleased to do his math with our Ipad.
  16. But I think if she went by "Rox", "Roxy" or "Anne" it would be a great name.:D
  17. I can't even say the name normally! I just keep saying/thinking Roooooxanne, and have to continue with 'you don't have to put out the red light'.
  18. I'm not saying they could die because the disagree with you. I'm saying that trying to convert people in countries where conversion is illegal (regardless of whether this is right or wrong) and punishable by death is where spreading your beliefs can possibly get families killed. So the need to get into these countries and make bibles and convert makes no sense to me. You said it's because your belief says to save them from everlasting torment and this is where I said that we are not God and should not make judgement calls on that which only He knows. Their is nothing wrong with having your beliefs, it's the spreading of those beliefs as the only path and the missions to convert others that I disagree with.
  19. My husband and I talked about this for a while last night. He did not like the idea of celebrating a death. He know the guy was straight evil, but the thought of someone's death is still difficult. I see this as a necessary fact of war. War is not meant to be hugs and roses. I'm sure most here know I'm believe in Sanatana Dharma (Hindu) and the Bhagvad Geeta is a very important scripture. It recounts the events of a major war, Arjuna is meant to uphold dharma by killing the opposing side-many of whom were his own relatives. He was torn and upset, he did not want to engage in the war. Krishna reminds him that it is his dharma (duty) as soldier. He is reminded to simply do his duty, not to take pleasure or pain in it. This is the righteous path. So I see this as job well done, I'm not busting out the champagne and celebrating a person's death, but I am also not the least bit upset in his death. It was a necessary act of war.
  20. But a family should risk dying because of YOUR belief? No one on Earth is God, so no one here can say with 100% accuracy that this is what will SURELY happen. What the Truth is is beyond us, is greater than us. We are not the ones to make judgement calls for other peoples souls.
  21. Mine are too young. They have heard us talk about 9/11 and they know the phrase. My elder boy watched the news with us during the Mumbai attacks but he obviously didn't really know what was going on. I will explain both to them when they are older.
  22. Now I have just never understood why one would want to be a missionary in a country where conversion is not allowed. If you know that what you want someone else to do can get them and their family killed, they why? Yes, I know to save their soul, but by possibly getting them killed?
  23. :iagree: There have been many documented instances of the "miracle" medicine..a poor unsaved soul from a 3rd world country has an illness that is commonly cured by antibiotics and such here but there they are told to take the blessed medicine and have belief in Jesus and they will be cured and POOF they're better and they're now believers. It's deceitful. Or how about the Christian "swamis"? They dress in saffron robes chant in Sanskrit, build their church to resemble a traditional Hindu temple and again use deceit as a way of converting. What about offering the promise of jobs and money for your poor, starving family and all you have to do is "believe? Often times these practices rip apart families, their traditions and culture are torn. The new converts start to condemn their family members that will not. This is hardly respecting any family values. I understand that many missionaries to do not employ these deplorable tactics, but it needs to also be understood why many communities that have been affected in these ways are so vehemently opposed to missionary work.
