  1. Yes. I don't always act happy and I'm not a cheery person, but I am very happy.
  2. No. I wouldn't just because I would not want to risk them getting worse. I would just try to avoid them completely for a while and then reintroduce. Sometimes their immune systems just need to get a little stronger and then they stop having reactions. I'd be especially careful with eggs if your child is also getting any vaccines that have egg protein in them. (I think MMR and flu shots, but would need to double check that info.) Ds6 tested positive to egg allergy (they just said very mild) and I was told to go ahead and let him eat it every now and then and to get his vax. Later, his reactions to egg got much stronger. I had to take him off of egg for over 3 yrs and have just recently reintroduced it to his diet. I'd err on the side of caution for awhile.
  3. I plan on using it when my boys are little older. We haven't studied much American history yet, but this will probably be our main resource when we do.
  4. Heather your post describes my dh perfectly! He is sooo not easy to live with. But I try to remind myself daily.. um no maybe hourly that he is who he is. I get crazy frustrated, mainly because now my boys are starting to mimic his not-so-great traits.:001_huh: The thing that drives me the most crazy though, is that his co-workers can go on and on about how organized and thorough he is at work, but somehow he cannot do the same at home. I tell them that his name and organized or thorough just do not belong together in the same sentence-it's just wrong! His hyperfocus is his work.:glare:
  5. For me it depends on the kid. Some kids I adore and love having at my house. Others, not so much. I don't mind feeding other kids at all, but they usually don't like what I have to offer. We don't do gluten, dairy or soy so most of the usual snacks that kids are used to, will not be in my house. I always have plenty of fruit available, nuts of all kinds, toasted seaweed, and sometimes some GF/DF/SF cookies. I'd say I'm not really a kid-person, but some kids are the exceptions.
  6. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :party::party::party::party:
  7. Dh was bitten by a Lone Star Tick the other night. He was mowing the lawn and noticed it (in his bellybutton!) a couple hours later. He removed it and sprayed the area with hydrogen peroxide. The past two days it's been red and oozing pus. From what I've read, Lone Star ticks don't carry lyme but can cause something called STARI-Southern Tick Associated Rash Illness. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/stari/ I can't seem to find much info on this though. Has anyone else here experienced this or know more about it? I think dh is going to try to get some antibiotics today, but we're not sure if he needs the longer dose times like with lyme or if a shorter course would be sufficient. Since we are new to the are, we don't have a regular family doc yet so I think he will just end up at an Urgent Care type place and I doubt they would know much about this either.
  8. Okay, I've finally found this thread again, yay! So ladies, are we still up for a meetup? The social group is not working for me right now so I don't know if I've missed any updates on this. Fair Lakes is good for me too. I haven't been to Frying Pan Park, but it sounds nice. Waa, was it you that recommended Clemyjontri on the social group? I've heard that is supposed to be a really nice park.
  9. If it were my child that was diagnosed as "highly reactive", I would not give any vaccines unless absolutely necessary. For example, if going to an area that still had polio outbreaks, then I would do just the polio vax. I don't know a whole lot about homeopathic nosodes, but they seem to be viable option if your child does get around something contagious. I would also make sure that their doc is knowledgeable about diagnosing and treating the illnesses that are no longer commonly seen, such as measles, rubella, diphtheria, etc. Because they are not common, many docs just do not know what to look for. They may have only briefly touched upon the subject while in med school. Ds6 had a terrible reaction to his MMR. It was after this that he went from 90% height and weight on his growth chart to dropping off the chart completely.( He has just recently finally gotten back on to about 5% height and weight.) His personality changed, he developed SPD and he hasn't been able to eat gluten, dairy or soy since. I have not given him any of his boosters and I've also been very cautious with his little brother. He just got 2 polio and 1 diphtheria shot last year prior to our trip to India.
  10. Ah yes the arm pain, I find it to be the most debilitating. My back aches a LOT, but not being able to use my arms for so much (even just wiping down the counters or brushing my teeth HURTS) is the hardest thing to get used to. Two things have helped me somewhat, an injection from a Pain Specialist in my shoulder along with applying topical PennSaid. And stretching my arms everyday while I'm taking a really hot shower. The hot water helps to loosen up the muscles. I also try to remember and stretch it periodically throughout the day. Thank you so much for posting this info.!
  11. This is a timely post for me, thanks OP and to all the posters who have given such great advice. My boys are going to be on a summer swim league for the first time and I am kind of dreading the early morning swim times. I like sleeping in a bit:D. I more worried about the meets though. My youngest won't be in the actual meets but they will sometimes have mini-swim type contests after the meets. Keeping him busy until then is not going to be easy. There will be meets every Wed and Sat and all swimmers are highly encouraged to attend both meets even if they will not be in both. The bolded part is our same situation. Plus we are new to the area. I'm hoping it all works out though. I think it would be a great experience for my boys and hopefully a good way for them to make some friends in our area.
  12. I think some kids need a bit of a push. Not all kids are this way, but the ones who need it should get it otherwise it seems more like a disservice to them, IMO. Sometimes they just don't know/understand/care enough at the time if something is important, but as a parent you (general you) do and hopefully the child will realize that later.
  13. I went through this same decision making process in March. We had an IPad2 on order and I was able to get a 32g Ipad (1) for a great deal. I went with the Ipad and cancelled my Ipad2 order. I'm completely happy with the decision. It would be nice to Skype with the camera on the Ipad2 but not worth the extra couple hundred bucks to me in the end.
  14. Doing a load of laundry in the morning before breakfast. I shower, pray, and throw a load in, put what needs to be in the dryer in the dryer and hang the rest. I fold anything in the dryer and ds6 puts his and his brothers shirts on hangers. I've stayed on top of laundry this way and it has been such a freeing feeling.
  15. Thanks for the advice! I couldn't imagine what it must have been like running around in a prom dress :D. Thanks, I think I'm going to need a little luck. I have NO IDEA how to get around D.C.!
  16. Thanks, I'm think I'm going to get it. I'm giving myself a week to think on it. Ds6 really liked the sample too, he was pretty disappointed about not being able to do the project. I like that it is fairly independent as that's how he works best.
  17. I used to be your size ages ago, if your not too tall then clothes from the Girls and Boys sections of the store should fit. The boys section would probably more shapeless. T-shirts, sweats, shorts, etc. The bonus is they are usually a lot cheaper than the adult sections! I hope your able to reach your goal. Losing weight is often talked about but struggling to keep weight on can also be such a challenge. :grouphug:
  18. Has anyone tried this or know anything more about it? The sample on the website is nice and I like they way they break down concepts in a fun way. I also like that everything is included in the package and the review pages are a good way to evaluate what's been learned. I'm thinking about taking the plunge but would love to know if anyone has any experience with this first or if you've heard anything (good or bad) about it. http://www.explorationeducation.com/store/index.htm Thanks!!
  19. I'd suggest trying out the Webster Method as has already been posted. An ultrasound would help determine if the cord is around your baby's neck. The chiropractic care helped me during my pregnancy to get ds6 from transverse to head down. He stayed horizontal for as long as he could though ( I think until about a week before my due date) and he also stayed up high until just a day or so prior to my delivery. Boy was it uncomfortable, you could see a clear outline of his foot on the right side of my body and when he kicked..ouch!
  20. Oh no, you all have been going through so much:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  21. We are currently doing this. We've been using WWE and have just recently added on GWG. So far I don't see why there would be any conflicts. As Halcyon said, there is some gentle reinforcement with WWE, but that's an added bonus here.
  22. Wow! I've never heard of the Miracle Method before, the before and after pics on the website look great. Great job Mariann!
  23. Great idea!! That's cute, but honestly I couldn't do that. I would feel way to self conscious with fig leaves on my woman parts.:blush5:
