  1. Yes. I have taught from 1st through 6th. You need the TM.
  2. My husband is a pastor who is currently serving as a US Army Chaplain. The worshipping community is primarily made up of military. Yes, he has spoken about the war in Iraq. Yes, he does ask the worshipping community to prayerfully consider the upcoming election. No, he does not sway anyone with his political party favorite.
  3. Lastest Update: Well, the family did make an offer. It is terribly low, so low that we would need to take out a personal loan just to close on the house. My husband did make a counter offer that would still put us in the hole, but not as much! They have until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow to decide. Thanks for your prayers.
  4. Update: In the last week we have had one family look at the house two times. Last night they were there for over an hour and then another 30 minutes in the driveway talking with their realtor. We would really appreciate your prayers. My husband is there now overseeing some electrical contractors and basement contractors. The family was happy to see that some updates were being finished before we sold the house. We will be walking away from this whole situation in the hole. Not even close to breaking even. We hope that this family decides to offer a contract. Thanks, Joyfully, Mary
  5. I lived in the Wiesbaden area just over a year ago. I do know some people who still live there, They do not regularly check the WTM forum. Let me know if you need something - I can try to get in touch with them. Joyfully, Mary
  6. Congratulations! I know that this has been a long road for you. Here's hoping that the closing will go quickly and without any problems!!!
  7. In my state (NC) we have to name our school when we give our letter of intent to the state. We also need to BE VERY SURE that the school name we selected is our forever school name. Once we choose "Bumble Bee Treehouse" for our school name, that is the school name that will be on our child's high school diploma. That's the reason we have a school name.
  8. I am new to the state (NC) and recently met with one of the board members for the state's homeschool organizational group. I thought you may be interested in what she had to say: She said that an attendance record, the orange postcard, immunization records (or the religious exemption statement), and last year's test scores are all that is required to be in the "folder." She does not recommend mailing in the test scores. The state office is overwhelmed with the number of homeschoolers in this state. The three paid full time workers and two part time workers can barely stay ahead of the game with all the people "volunteering" to mail in their test scores. She asked if I had ever seen their office - she repeated DO NOT mail in your test score information. She said that they will contact me if they want to see my information. The only times that she has heard about a direct at-home meeting, was when the family did not comply with the notification process (the orange card) and the state's child protective service asked the office if the family did indeed homeschool. The state office would then go out to ask for the folder of information. The board member said that IF I am ever contacted by the state to produce my "folder", that they are required to give a 5 day notice. At that time, I step outside on the porch and let them "review" the information. End of meeting. Because of the state's limited personnel staff in the non-public education department, they really do not get out that often to check on an individual's homeschool documentation. They are not there to see the children - just to look at my "folder." At the end of our visit, I learned that she has been homeschooling since the time it was made legal in the state! She was a wealth of information not just in the homeschool requirement area, but in the history of homeschool in this state. Awesome lady! Personally, I will keep the items that they require in my "folder." Other than that, I will focus on teaching my children. Hope this helps,
  9. Oh, this would be great! Does anyone know who put the sentences together? Thanks,
  10. I agree with the one in Greer - Children's Books. We have family that lives in the Greer area, so I decided to visit the store a couple of years ago. It is more like a warehouse with TONS of homeschooling books. You can actually pick them up and page through them. It is better than a book fair, because they carry all the major homeschool publishers and even some I have never heard of. When visiting family, I always plan an afternoon to visit the store. It is a little out in the country, in a sheet metal warehouse building. But, it is so amazing with the items they sell.
  11. I have twin 10 yo boys. They are on the same level for everything except reading. Two different levels. Any day now, one twin may very well be ahead in Math. I could see his eyes glaze over when we reviewed long division AGAIN. His brother just doesn't seem to remember the steps. (we took 3 months off) This could cause some competition problems if the oldest twin gets to move ahead in Math.
  12. Better to have everything out in the open. We live on a tight budget, so it wouldn't be long before he found out!
  13. Personally, I would clip my own nails and put on a fresh coat of polish. Have you ever tried to wax at home? I have a friend who buys wax at Wal-Mart, and heats it in the microwave. It costs about $3.00. Just a thought.
  14. This is difficult. We move a lot, so I'm always trying to stay ahead of the game with checking out neighborhoods before we sign a rental contract. However, this time I checked and everything appeared ok. Once we moved in, I began getting the sex offender's state list update in my email. They are everywhere, and I get an update about once a week of another one that has moved into the area (including women). I wish I could look give you advice about the house. We just need to be ever vigilent with the safety of our children. Wishing you well, Mary
  15. I feel your pain. We are currently going through a difficult situation with our adult daughter. I never thought that my most trying times as a mother, would be when my children were grown.
  16. I am praying about this situation. Hopefully, the real estate agent will educate the buyer.
  17. An Update: We have a showing this evening. Evidently the agent also showed it yesterday and this morning. Thanks for your prayers. Joyfully, Mary
  18. Not sure which grade level you are talking about. But we have used R&S from 1st grade and have used it all along. We have always done all the problems. The fact forms are to be used for extra practice. The blacklines (usually for grades 1-3) are to be incorporated with the lessons. Again, we did all the problems, but the result of this is that my children have a very strong foundation in Math. They never spent more than 30-45 minutes on a lesson, and that was doing all the problems. And if anyone is curious, the children wrote the problems out in a composition book, they did not answer them in the book. Just my 2 cents. Mary
  19. Thanks so much for all the supportive words of advice. I can see that I am not alone. Thanks for sharing from your hearts. A couple of things. We are a military family who relocates frequently and faces stress at all levels. This has produced a resiliency in my children and a "shake it off and move on" factor in them. However, they have a vulnerability when it comes to close family members. They let their walls down, reveal their hopes and dreams to them. So, when a grandparent (the only one still alive) goes out of her way to exclude them, it hurts. One of my boys said, "Well, we still benefit from Grandma buying school stuff, because my cousins send me their hand-me-downs." Gotta love that level-headed little guy:) My daughter said, "When I am a Grandma, I will take all the children shopping, even if they go to public school." Like I said, it hurts them, but they have the ability to learn from the experience, and move on. Life lessons at its best (or worst). Thanks for the posters who recommended a fun filled day. That is exactly what we are going to do. Last night my husband suggested Six Flags. He will take a couple days leave (vacation) and our kids will enjoy the adventure park and time together as a family. Thank you again for making me feel like I am not so alone in this. You guys are great!:grouphug:
  20. Thanks for the kind words everyone No, the cousins are from varying income based households. Total of eleven grandchildren. Eight of them are taken to lunch, shopping for backpacks, and then a pair of school shoes. The grandchildren are aware that if they were homeschooled, they would not get this special shopping trip with grandma. It is my mother. She is very outspoken against homeschool. She makes it a point to tell my children that if they were going to public school, they would get "xyz". My kids hear about it from the cousins. Again, this is not the first year. It has been going on for six years. Maybe next year will be easier.
  21. Because my children are homeschooled. All the other grandchildren go to public school and need new shoes and new backpacks. My children stay at home and do not need them. Grrrr. I wonder if she has any idea what this is doing to them? It is not about the new school items, but just about being accepted. This is not the first year she has done this. You would think it would get easier. But, the kids and I both feel like we have been hit in the stomach. Thanks for letting me rant.
