  1. Hello! Is there a picture book that has pictures of molecules and tells what they are. For example, Here's NaCl for table salt or here's carbonic acid in sodas, etc. At this point in time I don't necessarily need to know what kind of bonding. Chemical reactions would be a plus. So I can act them out. lol This memory game may be what I need, but I can't tell. http://www.amazon.com/Pomegranate-Molecules-Memory-Game/dp/0764959646/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424038600&sr=8-1&keywords=molecule+memory+game How about Ellen McHenry's Carbon Chemistry? In searching this forum the Molecules book by Theodore Gray was mentioned. This may work. I hoping for something more kid friendly? Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!
  2. The 5+ is really easy. My 2 oldest can do it. But it does nicely introduce algebra concepts by solving for the box which represents x. Since you have 2 it wouldn't hurt to start at 5+ imo. Hth

Looking at other replies I may have to look into artistic pursuit and a geography course. We start first grade now.
  4. Here's my thread on it: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/530714-the-sentence-family/ I hope you find something. :)
  5. Have you seen the Sentence Family? This may not be a complete LA program, but it is engaging for my kids. I'm not quite sure how to explain it. I'll give it a try, but hopefully someone else can chip in. Characters (family) are used as the parts of speech. They are interconnected by the color scheme. For example, the father is Declarative ( blue with black shoes) and the mother is Exclamatory (orange? dress with green? shoes). They have 2 boys, noun (blue shirt with black shoes) and verb (red shirt with black shoes) etc. After introducing a character, one can draw. There are some sentences that you can dissect. There is a story line in the beginning. I've laminated the characters and my kids love going around with them. They ask for them from time to time. I've got a thread about how to implement this program and received good advices. I'm on my phone now, but can come back later with the link. I got it from currclick for $12. Hth
  6. Here's my thread. It was a question I asked on the behalf of my BIL. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/535248-supplemental-online-resource-for-a-3rd-grader/ I skimmed and it looked like IXL, Dreambox, Khan Academy, Brainpop and BrainpopJr. were suggested. I hope it helps, but I don't know if all of the suggestions can be used as a spine.

  8. I didn't know this was out there. I would like to try it. Thanks for sharing.
  9. This is such a good topic. I wish more people would share their experience. I know there's a lot that I need to learn. :)
  10. Thank you! I didn't know about the geography sheets.
  11. These sound great. Thank you whitehawk and MMASC.
  12. I posted a question a little while ago if there was something like time4learning that was fun. Someone told me that clever dragons/ice cream (for girls) may be what I needed. I don't know anything about time4learning. I did check out the clever dragons site. it looks like so much fun. i don't know if it can be used as a spine. thought I just mention it. I hope this helps.
  13. That must have been annoying to realize that. I don't know why it wouldn't match up. Bummer.
  14. No I was not. Thank you for letting me know.
  15. Thank you MMASC! That helps clarify things. I will definitely get the cd. I was just looking for history songs, but math and science will work as well. I think the app will be a good fit as well. You just saved me $75! :)
  16. That actually sounds like a good plan Carrousel. :) Sounds better than spending $75. :) Thank you.
  17. Thank you AmyinMD. Your response is most useful too. I guess CC is becoming more popular hence the increase in price? I'll check on homeschoolclassifieds.com and other sites. I was just thinking of doing this on my own. I'm assuming I can do that. I'm just looking for stuff (in an open and go format) for my child to memorize. I saw another thread on memory work and this was mentioned (and it had a lot of other good advices too). I also can't seem to find where to buy the book titled Living Memory by Andrew Campbell. CC has been mentioned tons of times, so I thought I'd give a try.
  18. Thank you MMASC. Your reply is most helpful. A couple of more questions (for anyone in general): What does the Foundation guide entail exactly? Just a list of things to memorize? How does this compare to the book titled Living Memory by Andrew Campbell?
  19. H.E.R.O.S Homeschool Education and Resource Online Seminar (the S could stand for Session as well) Good luck! Thanks so much for putting this together. :) ETA: Homeschool Educator Resources Online Seminar btw, I don't mind what it's called. I'm attending anyhow. Accept credit cards? lol
