That workbook is for the public school version. I don't think it coordinates with the homeschool version. The homeschool set for kindergarten only has the teacher's manual and the meeting book (and then you can get manipulatives.)

Does anyone do spanish before latin? OR at the same time?
MommytoFour replied to bnwhitaker's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We are new to homeschooling (my kids are all PreK and K level) but we started Spanish this year. They do Little Pim plus have a Spanish tutor for 3 hours a week. We are going to start Latin gently next year with Song School Latin, and keep up with Spanish too. I'd love to hear from more experienced moms who have done two languages at the same time. -
Language Lessons through Literature- questionable assignment
MommytoFour replied to Mergath's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
This thread got slightly ugly for no real reason (in my opinion). All that the original poster wanted to know is if anyone had gone further in the curriculum and had found similar situations. She wasn't saying that everyone else needed to agree with her. She wasn't even bashing the curriculum. She was just asking a question that a lot of us might ask about any curriculum to try to find out if it might (not) be for her. Anyway, I know it's hard to read tone and intention sometimes on the internet, so it would be great if we could all just give each other the benefit of the doubt. We are all in the same boat -- just parents looking to educate our kids the best we know how. -
What a wonderful schedule you created. Thanks for posting it.

My plan didn't work at all - doing US history for K
MommytoFour replied to SereneHome's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks! I think I'm going to try it with my 1st grader next year (with my kindergarteners tagging along). And if it doesn't work, then we'll put it off for a year. -

No, I believe everyone is referring to Elemental History Adventures in America, which is for Kindergarten. -
My plan didn't work at all - doing US history for K
MommytoFour replied to SereneHome's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks. We'll give it a try next year. This year, we are doing basic geography and learning about cultures/families around the world (through maps, books and DVDs). So I want to do Adventures in America next year (and then SOTW the following). -

I was going to do Adventures in America next year with my kids who will be 5 and 6. Is the consensus that age is too young for it? -
Maybe listing them as high school is a mistake. Maybe they are supposed to be middle school? (I'd hope.) What I saw looked like around 3rd grade work.

I love this. Thanks!

Do you use this currently? And if so, how old are your kids? I was considering using it with my kids next year. I think we'd love it but then it looks a little overwhelming.

I have the white Kingfisher, and it's excellent. I got it on eBay for around $12 and it's almost brand new. I also have the Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of World History. This edition - http://www.amazon.com/Usborne-Internet-Linked-Encyclopedia-World-History/dp/0794503322/ I like having them both.

Here are a ton of free resources: http://www.livebinders.com/play/play_or_edit?id=9506 I would just use some of those, plus utilize your library. Then, if you have Netflix or Amazon Prime instant video (and even YouTube), you can watch a lot of good educational programs. I would just use the $20 on supplies.. paper, crayons, glue, etc... and a few more dollar workbooks.

Subjects/Curriculum for K-2nd Grade Co-op Classes?
MommytoFour replied to freeindeed's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We have a very small CO-OP group at my house weekly (14 kids - PreK to 1st grade.) We do "geography." First we did "Me on the Map" so they would understand some map/globe basics. Now each week, I pick a country and we read about kids/families in that country. We color the map and flag. Sometimes we have food from or watch a DVD about the country. We also do science -- right now we are focusing on the human body -- read alouds accompanied by coordinating crafts or coloring sheets. Sometimes we add in a Magic School Bus video. Every few weeks we do a "chemistry" experiment just for fun too. We also do arts/crafts that are coordinated with whatever we are studying in the Bible that week. (If it isn't a Christian program, you could do crafts based on a book you read. Stuff like this - http://www.pinterest.com/LaughingGBooks/crafts-based-on-children-s-books/ ) -
Maybe Harmony Fine Arts (Music and Art).

Biblioplan - Great Customer Service
MommytoFour replied to eight_gregorys's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks. The two oldest are learning to read currently. Three of the four are doing Saxon Math (two of them in Saxon K, one in Saxon 1). All four of them do Bible, social studies, geography, art and science in a weekly CO-OP that I have at my house with four other families. So they all know the pledge of allegiance, know facts about our state/city/country, have visited the fire department, etc. And we'll continue to do those kind of social studies/community type things for the next year, while we work on phonics/reading and writing. I'm not talking about starting Biblioplan now. I'm possibly interested in it for Jan 2015, when my youngest will be almost five. That's why I was curious if anyone had done it with that level. I know they have a K-2 level. I was just curious if anyone had used it with a kindergartener. -

I was wondering if any of you do (or have done) Biblioplan in Kindergarten. I have four kids within 19 months of age. (Blessings of adoption). They are currently almost 4 years old to 5 1/2 years old. I was wondering if Biblioplan would be too overwhelming to do with them all together next year. -
It looks really great. What a ton of work you put into this! My son is 5 and I may be interested in using this for him next year. As far as the format goes, can you put parts A, B, C into a single .pdf instead of in three Workspaces .docx files? That way, I think any computer, tablet or phone should be able to open it.

I never got it to work either :(
