  1. My ds has. His lasted for over a year but they aren't the easiest plant to keep alive. Definitely only use distilled water! Keeping them moist but not too wet is a skill set, one I never mastered. My ds didn't feed them that often. In fact they probably only were fed in the summer months when insects were readily available. His flowered and I remember him putting it in the refrigerator to "winter" for about 3 months. When it was wintering, I'm not sure that he watered it often. I'll need to ask him more details. Eventually though, despite his great care, it died. We have had several over the years but none of them made it past the 2 year mark. Editing to add: It came in a "cage" that allowed it to look like a greenhouse, as it had a cover. While it was little that cover stayed on and we placed it in a west window. However, once it got bigger & flowered, the cover couldn't be on it as the flowers extend in the air quite a bit. It was a fun project while it lasted My ds can quote all sorts of venus fly trap facts. A sundew is a much easier carnivorous plant to care for. Not as exciting as watching a venus fly trap "eat" it's prey but it'll last much longer, in our experience. I remember each trap will only close 3x before they die.
  2. I'm in the process of potentially hiring a writing tutor for a 9th grade student who despises writing. If you have ever paid for such a service, what was the cost? Hourly? Semester? Any tips?
  3. We have a tradition that my crew and I make homemade donuts sometime between the week of Christmas & New Years. Since that hasn't happened, we decided to make them for New Years and then use the grease for a healthy (not!) round of our favorite homemade fried foods. Consisting of which are baconator fries, mozarella sticks, crab rangoon, onion rings and chicken wings. I might throw in some fresh veggies & dip to round it out.
  4. One thing I have learned from doing a very small number of canvas prints is to increase my pixels. I download my pictures to Picasa and then use that software to increase them. Once I have enough, I can create a canvas print that will come out looking good. I'm a novice but was getting frustrated when I could look at a crisp, clear photo from a DSLR camera on my computer screen, upload it and get a warning that it wasn't clear enough. I finally researched it to find the option to increase the pixels. Worked good after that.
  5. I made them today. I've never made them before and the middle ones lowered in size after baking. Does this mean, they didn't bake long enough? Guess I'll find out tomorrow when we devour them. 😋
  6. I am so very sorry! I will continue to pray. Absolutely heartbreaking.
  7. That's the one I was thinking of. Thank you for finding it. I searched & searched to no avail.
  8. There was but I can't find it either. I'll keep looking. I made the recipe listed in that thread and it was a hit! (I also used a tip listed in that thread, using confectionery sugar to roll them out verses flour...worked like a charm.) :) ETA: Despite Googling, I still can't find the thread but here is the link to the sugar cookie recipe that was in that thread. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/10402/the-best-rolled-sugar-cookies/
  9. It saved my dh's life. As a treat after, we stop at Denny's and he orders a huge breakfast meal. We rarely eat out and that is a treat for us. :)
  10. I use empty suitcases or keep them in the boxes they come in. One room in our home has boxes and if I just tuck them in among the other boxes, the kids to this point haven't figured it out. The suitcases are the easiest as I just put them back in the closet as before.
  11. 6 qt Instant Pot is on Amazon deals today.
  12. I make several this time of year. My secret...parchment paper! It makes all the difference in the world. I line my small cookie sheet with it, let it cool for about 7 minutes when fresh out of the oven, roll it up with the parchment paper still attached, unroll it when completely cool and then put the filling in, and roll it back up without the parchment paper. It's a Thanksgiving staple around here and I can squeeze 3 pumpkin rolls out of a 12 oz can of pumpkin with my recipe.
  13. With Liberty Share, it is very similar to when we had traditional insurance. We have a "card" that we hand to the doctor's office and they scan it. Bills get sent to Liberty, they discount them very similar to what our traditional insurance did, and then it either gets paid by Liberty or Liberty notifies the doctor's office that we need to be billed for the lowered amount. We used to have a HSA but after joining Liberty Share, no longer could add to it.
  14. We have Liberty Share and have been a member for about 4 years. If I go online to our account, I can see that X amount of money was shared with Jane D. but it doesn't say the reason why. They deduct the dues monthly and it happens electronically so I don't really pay attention. I know they have limits to what they will cover but I don't remember all of them. The one I do remember is ATV accidents because we use an ATV nearly daily on our farm. I can say that we are extra careful driving the ATV and it's a risk we take. However, we could no longer afford the premiums for insurance and it was either this or nothing. Happened to all of the self-employed friends we know. Self-employed friends of ours that also have Liberty have had a birth covered, and several medical issues. We have had a colonoscopy covered in full despite finding finding issues. That wasn't the case with traditional insurance as they no longer paid if anything was found.
  15. The procedure location was a bit over an hours drive away for us and I took extra measures, sure that "a make shift bathroom" would be needed. Thankfully we left as late as possible and never needed it. The home bathroom was used right before we left.
  16. My experience has been similar to your dd. Two Dulcolax tabs at 4 pm the day before the procedure. 6 pm the bottle of Miralax and at 7 pm two more Dulcolax tabs. No sleep that night. :crying: Procedure at 9 the next morning.
  17. I vaguely recall a website that sold the set of Horrible Histories in the USA. I cannot find it via Google. If my memory is at all correct, it was a gentleman in California (Ray?) that had a website full of all things Horrible. I'm thinking ahead for Christmas and would love to gift a set of the books. Help?
  18. You have a very full plate. I think you are an amazing momma to be standing upright at this moment! Exhaustion kills me. Giant bear hugs! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  19. I have in the past and would again. The times I've used the men's bathroom, they leave much to be desired as far as cleanliness.
  20. We have a neutered inside/outside male. He does not spray in the house. However, our neighbors had a litter of kittens that now are adults and the cats wander over on our property. Our cat has started spraying outside.
  21. I had a very active preschooler and I had a special tote I carried full of items designated just for church. I used magnetic books, stickers, snacks, little farm tractors & implements (although he added the noises to make them "go" ), silly putty/thinking putty, crayons/coloring books, books, but the absolute best was search & find books. The harder to find and busier the page, the better! I probably have thirty or more search & find books in this house all from those toddler/preschool/early elementary years of church attendance.
