  1. Our shelters here do tend to have more of the pit bulls, etc. but there are very large organizations here with volunteers that foster dogs and you can adopt from them. We adopted our guy at age 1 for about $120 from a group here called Stray Animal Adoption Program. He was fostered for about a month before he came home with us. Do you know if those types of organizations exist in your area, OP? Our group has lots of mix dogs but very rarely any purebreed. The advantage of the fostering is that you really get an idea of the dog's personality and whether they get along with other dogs, kids, cats, etc. Also the organization is committed to a good fit so if it doesn't work out they take back any dog a person cannot keep and rehome the dog.
  2. We have a freezer alarm for our upright freezer in the basement. It isn't very loud so sometimes if you are on the 1st floor you cannot hear it. We also have a bungee cord holding the door closed. Most of our issues in the past have not been power outages but issues with the door not being fully closed and/or issues with the freezer getting stuck on a defrost cycle. It is nice to have something where you can see the temp on the outside without opening the freezer, so definitely look for that. Ours is so old--I saw some similar ones on Amazon but nothing is the same, and now there are ones that connect to your phone.
  3. @Ktgrok Do you know why these are different? From County Report: From State report:
  4. I wish I could send you some of mine. I bought cases of the Bob's Red Mill Teff via Amazon (somewhat by accident--forgot to cancel subscribe and save).
  5. I have had trouble finding ricotta cheese (on and off), UDI's gluten free hamburger buns (it's going on a month now that they don't have them or they are out of stock), and really, random things depending on the week. I'm a bit of a caffeine free diet coke (or pepsi) junkie and I can't find it lately. Hand soap refills are hit or miss. Sometimes you can find a pump or two. We haven't bought more sanitizer since this started. I don't know where to even look for it. I am finding that, either due to lack of staffing and/or distribution issues, Meijer is not stocking as well as Kroger. I can't really make sense of it. I do try to go to the store by 9:30 a.m. because they have a shopping time for the older customers/more health vulnerable before that. I don't think the older customers are the ones depleting the shelves by 9:30 a.m. LOL. So it has to be in part either stocking or distribution. Meijer *seems* less staffed than I am used to, but pre-pandemic I shopped on Saturday mornings, so that may be why.
  6. @whitehawk my husband has made these and my GF son likes them https://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/gluten-free-teff-crepes-recipe I have a ton of teff flour to use up. I need to get moving on using it. I think it is pretty old at this point.
  7. "Scream inside your heart" is going to be my new philosophy for dealing with crazy Facebook posts
  8. As noted on another thread, huge spike in deaths. Hospitalizations also on the rise.
  9. Broward County today: 1,347 new cases, 22.7% positive. This is my brother's county. I am so concerned for them.
  10. @ScoutTN Thinking of your friend and praying. Any updates?
  11. One of our local private schools is hosting a prom. I don't understand. It's in a county that has rising cases, hospitalizations and deaths. I can't say anything online or I will be attacked for ruining their fun. It just seems so risky to me.
  12. Do you mind me asking what you used for OT, NT and worldviews? My kids are doing The Most Important Thing You'll Ever Study for now, but I am not sure what we will do when we finish. I do own Starting Points (worldview primer) as well.
  13. In case this confused anyone else, K-2 is the name of the camp, not the ages of the kids. It's a camp for 13 to 18 year olds.
  14. Wow, so sorry to hear about the increased need for the ventilator. Praying for his wife and grateful she can be at the hospital, even for a short time.
  15. This might be in my top 10 so far:
  16. We're currently stumbling through this for the first time. In the past we have read abridged versions and then saw the play. This time, I wanted them to actually read it. So we watched the play (on TV). Now, I read the summary of the acts we will listen to and we are reading along while we listen to an audio version of the play. The negative to this approach is that it moves fast, and there is not necessarily time to look at the notes in our book (we are using Oxford School Shakespeare's edition). I am not confident this is the best approach, though!
  17. just wow. I don't even know how to respond to that.
  18. @Ktgrok @Lady Florida. Do you all know what this means? I think it got missed in the thread.
  19. I am so confused. So, were they including the antigen results before, or when are they adding them, or ?? @Ktgrok https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/florida-health-officials-say-antigen-test-results-will-be-included-in-future-covid-reports/2258039/

  21. Is Disney still planning on opening? I haven't been following that. I get that they would be hurting financially if they didn't, but how do you control liability in that scenario?

    Solved

I'm not strict on this. I just pick out the onion. ETA: I am reading up on this and I am not sure I should even do what I am doing.
  23. And there are still people willingly choosing to go there on vacation! Someone I know posted they are there right now. I mean, I know that tourism is a major industry, but I can't help but feel this will increase spread.
  24. state: 11,445 cases, 14% positive Not sure where this data is pulled from. Tallahassee Reports graph of hospitalizations. It doesn't include yesterday's data (yet). "The chart below tracks the daily hospitalizations and provides a 7-day average trend line based on cases reported by the Florida Department of Health (DOH) through July 3rd."
