  1. We have used vocabulary from classical roots, but like egao_gakari, i wouldn't call it fun. 😃
  2. @Ktgrok I think this is date of death by day reported (for FL). Even so, to me, it's not trending down, which is concerning. There are predictable dips on the weekends.
  3. Wow! That's a ton for us. I have not checked our numbers today. Was there a news conference today?
  4. Almost 9000 new cases today for FL. We are back in OH now but we will be self-isolating. I feel like we escaped something and that's not good.
  5. I am in Coral Springs and he is up near Tampa at Holmes Beach with his family. I can't tell that he thinks it is really a huge issue. I did text him today about the numbers and he asked if I wanted to come up. I told him it was more risky where he was (with four different family units in one house where three flew in and all but my family picks up food twice daily). I will meet him in Ocala tomorrow and we will drive home from there.
  6. Could you link a source for me? I'd like to share it with my brother's family.
  7. It's really crazy. Two weeks ago when we came they were reporting around 2K cases a day and that seemed high at the time.
  8. Did you see my other thread about the time to do the drawings? Was it close to the video time, a lot longer, etc.? Thank you
  9. If you used the videos, do you know about how much time it takes to do the drawing associated with the video? I have the video times for each but I don't know if we can finish the drawing in that time. I assume it will take us longer than it takes her on the video. Should I assume about twice the time? Or less? Thanks in advance for your help!
  10. I have heard good things about Mapping the World with Art by Ellen J McHenry (ages 11-16) and Visualize World Geography
  11. This is my position also. Unfortunately I have seen a lot of people in my area blow it off, including a local government official who literally rejoiced when our health director announced she was resigning. It's truly sad. My husband, however, thinks it is overblown. Our case numbers aren't super high in Ohio (compared to FL, especially), but we also have really low testing volumes. I haven't been able to listen to the governor's talks since I came down to FL to visit my family, but at one point we were only at 9,500 tests per day being run (as a max). With that low of a testing volume, it is no wonder our case numbers are lower.
  12. I can't comment on switching troops, but I have observed in our local Trail Life groups there is a pretty big difference with how they are handling things during COVID. Our TL troop will not have meetings of over 10 people because they said the church doesn't want the liability (even no hiking off-property). The other TL troop which is much older and well-established is having meetings inside, with most people not wearing masks, and told their members if they were uncomfortable they could try rejoining activities in the fall. All this to say, it might be that the church's liability (insurance? waiver?) has something to do with what a troop does or does not do during this summer. Beyond that, I hear what you are saying on the leadership and that may very well be enough to consider moving to another troop.
  13. @Ktgrokand I are confused about yesterday's case report. On the FL Arc GIS site it is 4700 something (reported yesterday) and almost everywhere else in the media, worldometer, etc. it is 3493. Today's numbers are below 3K on both, which seems better, but if yesterday's report was better or not depends on where you look. It's very weird. Do you think any of this is from the protests/rallies? My brother's family lives here and they think it is that, but I thought I had read that MN wasn't having a peak following all of their protesting so maybe not?
  14. I don’t understand why the Florida GIS would report 4700 cases and the news media 3493. Did you find anything on this @Ktgrok?
  15. I was just on there and it looked like the 4700 number was for yesterday. I actually came in here to ask you about it. I don’t understand what happened I found one news outlet that had the 4700 but multiple others have the 3493 number
  16. No,. Apparently she is feeling a bit better now so it might not be COVID. It's still weird that she picked something up though, even if it wasn't COVID.
  17. Thank you. I have been following this which is updated daily, but it is for the whole state and doesn't address % positives of people tested. https://tallahasseereports.com/2020/06/15/two-charts-show-positive-trends-for-florida-in-coronavirus-battle/ It usually isn't updated for the prior day until about 3 or so. So it still doesn't reflect the 3800 new cases you mentioned.
  18. Many apologies, as I am reading this after writing it, it is sort of ramble. 😃 I am at my brother's in SE. Florida and have been watching the numbers since way before we drove down last week. It seems like a definite trend up. I am not used to how this state does things. I tried to find some sort of public statement from the governor as to their take on what is going on, but didn't have a whole lot of luck. I found an article where he blamed it on farm workers (the article called them hispanic workers). But to me, that doesn't explain the large surges. Has anyone found a reliable source for data regarding the percentage of people that are testing positive? I thought I had read somewhere that it had increased in the last week (meaning that a higher percentage of people were testing positive than had before). Interestingly, my SIL's mom (SW FL) has had a cough and felt yucky for at least a few days and the only outings in public they have had were to go to Walmart for grocery pickup (where they load your trunk) or a drive-thru at Walgreeen's. They have no idea how she could have picked something up. It would have to be from those surface contacts I guess? I sort of hate being right sometimes. I had no peace about coming to FL until we agreed that I would just stay on at my brother's when my dh and kids go up to NW Florida to stay with others in a house (that's literally another thread). My brother's family has been so careful. I would appreciate prayers for my dh and kids' safety. The ironic thing is that weeks ago things didn't look this bad case-wise, and I had no peace then. Now, as I look at the numbers I feel like I was being warned then that things were not going to be good.
  19. The teacher’s manual has the answers to the classroom exercises. I do the classroom exercises with my child. He does the average course assignments —there is a schedule for a minimum, average, and maximum course in the teacher’s manual.
  20. We are using Jurgensen after doing Dolciani Algebra 1 i bought the Duke TIP CD off of eBay but we haven’t used it yet. I am afraid we won’t be able to. When I looked at it months ago it did not appear that you could skip around. It seemed that you had to start at the beginning and work through all the modules. I do have the solution manual. It is not as robust as the one for Dolciani. One thing I miss from a Dolciani is the practice problems in the back for each section. Jurgensen’s doesn’t have that.
  21. The endo is willing to continue growth hormones but the parents are concerned son will not grow because endo has also said that growth stops at age 16. It does not make sense to me on multiple levels. Why continue if it will have no effect? And, how do you explain all the reports of growth after 16 in boys?
  22. It's not me. This is regarding a family member of mine's son. Do you know where I can find this information online? They are seeing an endo and getting growth hormones for their son and are being told that he is done growing at 16 (he is 16) and all I have is anecdotal evidence from friends that this is not the case. I have not had success finding medical references that would dispute this idea. Basically, I am trying to comfort them with the idea that it is quite possible he is going to continue to grow for another three or four years. ETA: I thought there was something about boys' growth plates not fusing until later in development than girls', but I cannot find that per se.
