  1. No experience, but she's adorable. And she needs a sweater.
  2. That end scene where Ellie is standing in the field behind the house and Beth comes out was perfect. In a Hollywood ending, they embrace because they're both hurting. In what feels closer to real life, Beth asks how could she not have known? Gut wrenching. I want to watch it again now!
  3. :seeya: I'll join in on the Elementary love! We enjoy this show so much. Love Lucy Liu as Watson and, of course, JLM as Holmes. We came in last season, in about the middle, so we got caught up and now it's one of our favorite shows. I hope we'll get to see more Mycroft. JLM is also my favorite Mr. Knightley :svengo: .
  4. There's so much fear about men touching and hugging children. Broadchurch examined all of that with such a light stroke. Really, masterfully done. Hardy honing in on the vicar's hand on a boy's knee and of course, Jack's hugs. I would venture to guess that the vast majority of physical contact between men and children is completely innocent, yet because of the ugliness we know that can occur, there is often a more watchful eye. I found the actress that played Susan to be an interesting choice, too. She had a certain gruffness to her. I tried to picture her if they'd chosen an actress that was more traditionally feminine. It was a very thought provoking series.
  5. I would just watch it. You can always apply an icepack, too.
  6. I'm not really a fan of the produced proposals, but I'm a fan of people being happy :) . This one is still my favorite: Brad and Emily get Engaged! I'm slightly biased since it's in my beautiful state. I like that you can't hear the actual proposal. That's between the two of them :001_wub: . The beach stuff is far better than the actual lip dub. Watch it. It will make you feel good.
  7. I read about that scene. We get soooo frustrated with BBC shows being chopped up on BBCA and PBS. BBCA I can kind of understand, because they sell commercial time, but the Downton Abbey slashing on PBS has no excuse! Dh and I have become pros at spotting cut scenes. "Oh, that was cut!" and "I wonder what we missed there?!"
  8. Right. I think they did a really good job with "the devil you know" kind of scenario. It didn't feel sympathetic at all, to me. They showed just how insidious a pedophile can be.
  9. We do this. Over the years, change rolling night has been something to look forward to. We watch a movie, drink a few beers, and count our money :) . We have saved nearly $1,000 in change this way. And this is without doing it ALL the time. We go through periods where we use our debit more often than cash, but it's definitely a pain free way to stash some cash! Here's another cash saving tip: We save any dollar that has one of our initials in the Federal Reserve circle (left side of the dollar).
  10. We did. I can't think of a show that has made me more tense while watching. I read that Tennant and Colman filmed the scene, where he told her it was Joe, with no rehearsal. That scene blew me away. Can you imagine not knowing how the other actor was going to play that out and just reacting? Oh, and I stink at sleuthing. I had no idea who the killer was.
  11. A friend posted about this site on FB this morning. It is heartbreakingly appropriate to share in this conversation. Project Unbreakable
  12. Thanks! My husband just got our machine for $50 and we're having too much fun trying different coffee!
  13. Holy cow! I would be so ticked off. They are stealing.
  14. Not yet, but it's part of my plan now that we're ditching most of the writing ;) .
  15. That's interesting because Core G was the last core we did. Looking ahead to Core H is what made me decide to give OM a chance. We also really loved the books in G!
  16. I have no clue. Well, I have a very general clue. I like Karen in CO's "well-mixed American mutt".
  17. Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts. I do intend to add more books and we will continue to pick and choose writing assignments. Doing them all is just way too much for us. I was reminded today of The History Shelf (Thanks for all your hard work, Jenn!!). I'm going to supplement with some of those suggestions and stop getting hung up by box-checking!
  18. Yes, the formatting and typos were, um, surprising, given the price. Are your books falling apart, too? I can't even re-sell it because the pages are coming out of the binding. I'll need to pay more to have it comb-bound. I really don't want to scrap it, but if anything, it's going to feel like a supplement to whatever I decide to do. *sigh* Maybe we should just hold hands and jump?
  19. After years of doing Sonlight and mixing AO with my own stuff, I thought we would try Oak Meadow. I was drawn in by the thought of the kids having a little more independence and I liked them having a choice for how to complete assignments. In theory, this all sounded good. In execution, we are flailing. Oh. my. goodness. So much writing. I have both kids doing OM 7. We are on week 8. They are asking, "When will we read more books?" :( . They read Summer of the Monkeys *weeks* ago. Since the LA assignments are integrated with their reading, they are not scheduled to read another book until week 9! They have been reading their dry, world history text book and writing (writing, writing, writing). I think I'm more un-schooly than I realized. I'm actually having them do about a quarter of the writing assignments because *I* can't take it. We are enjoying the science curriculum....minus the writing assignments because it just zaps the fun out of it. So, I'm not scrapping this curriculum ($$$!), but I am going to tweak it to death, until it looks nothing like OM :) . I want to remove the writing component and add more books. I still want them to work on writing skills, but not like this. Suggestions? I have WWS. I wanted to have a more organic approach, "Hey, you think this guy is interesting? Write a research paper", but I think we still need more hand-holding. Would you get rid of all the OM writing assignments and focus on WWS? Has anyone else had this experience with OM? What did YOU do? I miss reading books and talking about them :( .
  20. Obviously, there are children that have been abused and exposed to sexual situations that may act out at that age, but the vast majority of 6 year olds are simply repeating words they've heard older siblings and friends say or that they've heard on TV. Adults hear words through their own *adult* experience and then the word seems sexual. I vote overreacting.
  21. I think the bolded is great. I got this book out of the library: Asperger's on the Job and found it to have some excellent advice. It looks at some of those spectrum quirks as *positives* for employers. The fact that they're honest, and, if they find work doing something they love, will work on it for HOURS at a time, happily :) . It also brings up things that can be a detriment to employment that they can discuss with employers. Highly recommended! You can't set your expectations too high, in my opinion. You just may need to adjust how he gets there.
  22. He sounds a lot like my son, who at one time was diagnosed with PDD-NOS and an additional notation "may be diagnosed as Asperger's in the future". Now that he is 13, I've personally diagnosed him as quirky, and nothing more. He makes eye contact, charms the socks off everyone he meets, has very specialized interests, is a religious hand washer, and is just different than anyone I've ever met. What do you hope to gain with a diagnosis?
  23. If you feel you need to go to the hospital, go. You can get things in order with a therapist once the immediate threat of hurting yourself is over. I don't like seeing the words "serious depression" and "suicidal thoughts" together. When I had this experience with a loved one, while a hospital admittance was not ideal, it did get this person on the road to recovery through therapy and medication. Best wishes. Your family can and will survive while you get yourself better :grouphug: .
  24. Spaghetti is about as easy as you can get. Buy a bagged salad and garlic bread. Throw chicken breasts in the crockpot with BBQ sauce for BBQ chickens sandwiches. Any chunk of beef, potatoes, carrots, onions in the crockpot.
