  1. No the character in the show starts season 1 as 17. In the book she is 14.
  2. Today I cleaned the dining room and kitchen. We've had a really busy week with dh working from home so I can help with the Coppelia production my dd is in. So, I've been gone every evening most of the week from 3 to 8:30. During the day I've been too exhausted to keep up with the regular tidy up of those rooms. Today it got to a point where it was causing me stress and anxiety just looking at it. So, dh and I finished our morning coffee and tackled the rooms together.
  3. We are pretty relaxed about cleanliness here but dirty dishes isn't something we leave for days on end. I'd likely start doing the dishes myself but also let my dh know that his inability to hold up to his side of the chores responsibilities is a marriage issue and we need to figure it out together when he's able to
  4. I long for us to reach the point in our financial security where dh can work because he wants to work not because he has to. He really likes his job, which I'm so grateful for. And his company treats it's employees pretty darn well, especially compared to the small business he used to work for. But I'd like him to experience life at home with the kids the way I do if that's what he wants too.
  5. LaVar Burton Reads is just him reading short stories. It is great!
  6. I hate facial hair. I really don't care about it on anyone but dh. I find it unattractive and I do not like kissing someone when they have facial hair. Dh has always enjoyed our intimacy frequency more than any desire to see how he looks with facial hair.
  7. Woke up at 5:45 and went to the gym with dh. We go 6 days a week and it really helps start the day of right and certainly reduces my stress.
  8. thanks! Sadly, just found out last night that we actually aren't going 😞 The event we wanted to go to is the day before the solar eclipse and we've been planning on going to see that since the last one. So, at least we are missing it because of something else we really want to do!
  9. That all sounds so frustrating. It is a good thing they asked how you felt about sharing a bathroom. Even if you don't have a choice, you at least can prepare for it. Living in other people's home must be stressful. I'd still stick it out until you have a stable job situation. All of the moving around and the stress from that takes away time you could be spending finding a job. It
  10. Ugh, I have $80 in lego VIP rewards and none of the darn codes are working. I know I haven't used them yet.
  11. thank you for posting this. Ds didn't need it but their were other d&d books on sale that he does want so I got them for christmas
  12. Gotcha. Yeah, the first time she had the opportunity to have the director there but we couldn't make it the day the director was available. And that first fitting went well and those first shows were great. But then Russia decided to start a was and the Russian Pointes that were great for her feet became impossible to find. Future fittings weren't bad until the most recent ones because her foot grew and changed so drastically from what she needed before But we didn't even consider asking again for future fittings. I was really glad the director offered to help her at the school. She got to try a bunch of brands and styles that the shops around here don't generally stock.
  13. No. We were at the school and head instructor pulled out the pointe shoes they have on hand and helped her find ones that work for her. Last time we went for a fitting at the ballet store that usually does a great job she tried on like 30 shoes and nothing was working for her. She needed new shoes because her foot grew and changed a lot during that growth spurt. When she found one that seemed ok she had been trying shoes on for over an hour and I think just rushed deciding that they were good.
  14. dd13's pointe shoes are destroying her feet so I had to order new ones! Thankfully, the head of the company sat her down with a ton of shoes and fit her herself. She was trying on company members' shoes too. It was nice because they were all so incredibly helpful about what they like about each of their shoes. It helped dd have a better understanding of what she needs for her feet. But oh boy am I sick of ballet expenses!
  15. Dh and I are spending a weekend in April in Raleigh to see some of our favorite bands one evening. But we'll have at least one other full day there. So, what does the Hive recommend we do? Thanks
  16. We are a huge hand me down and goodwill family. Even most of my clothes are not bought new. It just isn't worth the money to buy new ever when the thrift stores around here have enough good quality clothes for cheap. On the occasions where I do have to buy new it is shocking how expensive everything is
  17. We're sitting down with the school owner sometime next week to talk in more detail about competition. And with the coaching and contemporary piece free competing will not be nearly as expensive. Plus, it is a local competition so there would be no travel or hotel stays to deal with. I think I'm ready to consider the competition at least for one year and see how that works. Dd is also considering asking relatives to sponsor her. This isn't something dh and I would ask but we see the value in her making the decision herself. We're still waiting to get the Nutcracker casting. It should be this week. Rehearsal for that will start right after Coppelia is over.
  18. Mine and dh's went off at 2:18. Then dh's went off again at 2:20
  19. Yeah, I think I'd prefer intensives. But she did do the masterclasses during a competition last year and got some good scholarships for intensives. So, the way I see it, she can try competition and maybe it'll end up making intensives cheap enough with a scholarship for her to be able to afford it with her own money. We'll see. No, rehearsals start Saturday and the shows are oct 21st and 22nd. It may be a variation she's already learned though, I'm just not sure. Oct just turned into a crazy busy month
  20. Dd13 was asked to perform with the company in their production of Coppelia this month. So, that'll probably be a new pair of tights to perform in and new makeup. Not too expensive but not fully planned. She also wants to do a ballet competition this year. I told her it was either competition or intensives, it can't be both unless she finds a way to pay for part of them. The plus side is that a single competition is cheaper than intensives. The downside, I the to pay for it a lot sooner than intensives. Other plus side is that our tenant offered to choreograph her contemporary piece and coach her on it for free. Which saves us a good chunk of change. He doesn't know it yet, but we'll give him a free month of rent in exchange for that. We'll still have the coaching for the classical piece and the competition fees.
  21. Thank you all for the comments, suggestions, and stories. I'll show this thread to dh and we'll figure out the right way and time to approach the subject again.
