  1. Its just dangling from the wire. The ortho office is closed today. Do I just yank it out. She's scheduled to have her braces tightened this week.
  2. And here I was so pleased with myself for being up early on Sunday. Oh well, I'll look like a superstar this week.
  3. I bought this book ages ago and haven't gotten around to reading it, so thanks for starting this thread - just the kick in the pants I need. I'll read the first section today and post my thoughts later.
  4. We often do concert tickets or other event tickets for things they enjoy. (plays, comics, Christmas shows) Or books - especially local interest genre. This year I'm getting them a roku with Netflix gift subscription. My sister is getting my mom a preloaded kindle or kobo or whatever brand.
  5. Thanks ladies. I found the indent thingy on google.
  6. Care to elaborate on why? I'm not entirely impressed with some of their business practices and am a bit baffled by some of their omissions and inclusions regarding the diet being biblically sound, but I'm curious what issues others have with the program. Overall, I do think the not mixing carbs and fats works for weight loss, so I'm taking bits of what I've learned and combining them with my own common sense and it does seem to be working, but again, I'd love to hear the good and the bad about the company or program if someone knows something I don't.
  7. Two tech questions: 1. How do I indent or at least leave a gap between paragraphs on my blog? I leave the space in my text, but when I publish, it comes out as one long paragraph instead of a few. Is there a quick and easy fix? 2. How do I insert a link using the words in my text. For example, if I wanted people to click 'here', how do I convert the link to the word 'here'? Thanks, Crystal
  8. If you like the basement flat idea, you might consider, if it's possible to have one of you move to a neighboring home within walking/biking distance for the kids. Or building a cottage on or near the farm. I know a divorced couple who lives in each side of a duplex and it makes it so much better for the kids not to have to leave either parent really.
  9. Oh, I find this sort of post odd too. I had a friend post once, not about this topic, but, 'if you didn't vote, pease remove yourself from my friends list.' This is my Buddhist friend that just wants world peace. I guess she's not seeing the contradiction there. (not that I expect her to be perfect...)
  10. I hate to say it, but for me yesterday was business as usual. I seem to be desensitized to terrorism at this point. Living in a lock down community for a few days last spring will do that, I guess. I just feel numb to it all. And weary, if that contradiction makes any sense. People use the term 'deeply saddened' and that describes how I feel pretty accurately, if I let myself think about it too long, but I try not too for more than a minute or two or I wouldn't be able to function. So maybe numb is better.
  11. Sorry I'm just seeing this now. I've been using coconut sugar instead of the recommended sweeteners and I've been averaging a loss of a half pound per day since starting. I've lost 12 lbs. in 18 days on THM. There is a Facebook group called THM whole foods version (something like that) and I've gotten lots of tips from them for losing weight without the stevia or xylitol/erythritol. Lots of recipe ideas too. I've never been able to stick with any diet plan before this one. For me, this one works and is easy and most importantly enjoyable, once you get past the initial learning curve.
  12. If you're like me, you missed a lot of shows while spending all of your time parenting. My kids are getting older now and more independent and I'm discovering many shows on Netflix that I've been hearing about for years, but never watched. I only started watching Glee this year. It's hilarious, but in a low browish sort of way with some wit tossed in. I had seen Gilmore Girls a time or two, and I did like it, but not more than sleep or chasing after littles at that time in my life. I plan to start with season one soon.
  13. My picks would be Boma, Cape May Cafe Clam Bake and Wolfgang Pucks.
  14. I think I get it from food more than anything. Not in an unhealthy way though. And walking. I do about 1.5-2 + hours of walking most days. And being fit. I love getting and staying fit. And doing things that I love from reading to cooking to watching Netflix. Not sure if those things actually produce feel good hormones, but it does feel good.
  15. I find that when I take the time to get to know (ahem) non gifted people, I usually find them to be gifted in, perhaps, non academic areas, but it completely amazes me that it appears most people have some giftedness. To say that a person gifted in schoolish subjects is somehow above those who aren't is incredibly rude. I understand where our society places its value, but I think it's incredibly ignorant.
  16. Not a lefty, but two of my dks are. Looking for something that dries quickly so it doesn't smear as the hand hits it.
  17. I'm glad we have one, but my kids aren't the daredevil types to do crazy stunts, it has an enclosure and we have no young neighbours to get hurt on it.
  18. My 11 y/o had lots of crowding issues so ortho started with a palate expander for a couple of months then the braces. She will wear them for two years then she will have a retainer so they will stay nicely aligned. Often times, when there is crowding the child will eventually need to have wisdom teeth removed down the road, so you may want to ask the ortho if he/she foresees that for your dd. You want to have them removed at the right time because if they are allowed to emerge they may mess up your dd's previous ortho work.
  19. I bought a pink screw driveR, pink camo scissors and a red high heel tape dispenser. That oughta do it!
  20. I'm using this program now with some tweaks. I don't use the sweeteners recommended by the authors, but do everything else as written. It's working here and it isn't hard for me to follow - as I wrote in another thread, I could never do any other diet like weight watchers. THM is a program for people who don't have a ton of discipline combined with a sweet tooth. I use coconut sugar as my sweetener but other THM whole food ladies use maple syrup or raw honey.
  21. I had a kid who wore costumes, in public, when it wasn't halloween. It worked itself out. Said kid wouldn't dream of doing that anymore. My take on this is that I don't want to be the person who ruined the party. As a mom I have to do that some of the time, I don't want to overdo it and make my kids bitter toward me.
  22. This is crazy and unnecessary, IMO. Most women could never stick with this and I'm so glad we don't have to to be fit. I eat high fat meals with very little carbs that are extremely satisfying, then, later i may eat lots of complex carbs with very little fat, throw in a protein with each meal and the weight melts off quickly. If I even look at a ritz cracker, I'll soon be carrying lots of extra fat. No thank you, I'll keep doing THM whole foods version!
  23. Yes. I used to be able to keep fit just with exercise, but after 40, I find I need to eat differently too. Some friends and I are following Trim Healthy Mama with great success. I prefer this program (rather a whole foods variation of it) to other weight loss programs because it's easier for me to do this one for life - I could never stay on a diet for life, like weight watchers for example.
  24. My biggest obstacle has been a lack of high quality fat in my diet which led to lack of desire. When I began eating more fat, there was no fatigue in the world strong enough to stop me. Teehee
