  1. 1-2 hours. They sometimes watch a half-hour show, and they often play Wii for an hour with Dad at night. Very little, if any computer time besides typing and listening to Latin chants.
  2. For six....we usually spend about $200 per week. That's mostly food, other stuff like diapers, shampoo, soap etc. are usually bought elsewhere. We could cut it down too, but we really like to cook (and eat!) so we cut back in other areas to make this work.
  3. We are doing Level 2 now, but only use it once per week... I believe they suggest watching each lesson 6 times.
  4. We liked Born with a Bang and the two that follow.
  5. The ones that stand out to me-it's been awhile since we did it-are the Gilgamesh series (there are 3). My kids still read these to this day. They also liked Black Ships Before Troy.
  6. We have the same problem, it is extremely annoying, especially after you pay so much for the program! I am wondering if it's something to do with the microphone, because sometimes when we reset the microphone by going back into the setup and doing that "1-2-3" bit again-it is enough to get it going again. We also have our speech recognition set on the easiest level. I wish I had a better answer. We haven't tried it for a few weeks, it got so annoying. I guess I'm going to have to call the company if it keeps up.
  7. We did our kitchen/family room ourselves five years ago using the Armstrong prefinished planks. Very happy with them, they have held up great. We just had someone do our living room and den in the same flooring. There aren't any cracks between the planks, they are tongue and groove and fit right together. The install for the two rooms took four days (for the professionals, the part we did ourselves took way longer).
  8. I've considered dropping it many times. I have an 11 yo and 9 yo doing Lively Latin. I decided to drop grammar as a formal subject instead. And I cut the Latin down to just two pages per week, per child. I definitely think it can be dropped with no harm though!
  9. This is my 9 year old. I even read the directions to him and he does it wrong. The other day he multplied a whole bunch of problems that he was supposed to add. Didn't read the directions, didn't notice the multiplication signs! He was pretty ticked off when I pointed it out.
  10. We have a bunch of books from Sonlight Core B, and CB Kid is one of them, but mine hasn't read it yet..you might look at the SL readers list online because all of the readers seem to be around that same level/pretty similar.
  11. The kids and I usually make homemade peanut butter cups or macaroons for him. It started out because I forgot to get something one year, now the kids like doing it so we do it.
  12. Sounds great. Our Fridays are very light. Today we did Spanish and art...and then I just kinda gave up.
  13. I need this thread. Thursday-walked 2 miles, most of the time carrying a three year old. Today I am planning to ride my new exercise bike. Hope it's not the torture the ellipictal felt like.
  14. Last year, I splurged on pretty much everything. Really. This year, I am determined to trim back;)
  15. Same here. We just read, and if they bring up discussion, we discuss, otherwise we just move on.
  16. My first grader does oral narrations from lit. four times per week, and for science and history two times per week. I record his science and history narrations once per week.
  17. Two days per week I read a chapter of a science book, the other two days she chooses a science book off our shelf and spends some time reading to herself. We do the same for history, except that I assign a history biography to read and read aloud a narrative history book. I need to work in more experiments but for now we are very relaxed. I also have her, during writing time, write one history paper and one science paper per week.
  18. My three year old loves paint daubers, and I recently found you can print activity sheets that use them online. She also loves any of the Lauri stuff Rainbow Resource sells-especially the foam puzzles and the peg stackers. Those plastic gear sets are also a hit. She has her own little dry erase board that she likes to draw on too.
  19. In the TWTM it recommends waiting until halfway through OPGTR before beginning FLL.
  20. Ours is posted here. I started out with Ambleside as our base, but then I cut way way back on everything and combined the kids in most things to simplify. The kids are 11, 9, and 6.
  21. 5th grader... Math- 45 min/4 days Science-20 min/4 days History-20 min/4 days Grammar-0 Spelling-0 Reading-20 min/daily for lit, plus 20 min. for history or science Writing-30 min/2 days Bible-10 min/2 days Art if any- 1 hour per week Music if any-when we do it, maybe 15 minutes/week
  22. I posted our routine on my blog here. We have been quite relaxed as of late, so this is a new routine for us. Kids are 11, 9, 6, and 3.
  23. We have those. They are great. Very simple, good for a 6 year old. All mine liked them.
  24. We have a Brock magiscope too and LOVE it. The thing has held up wonderfully over many years and the views are great.
  25. We use La Clase Divertida, with an 11, 9, and 6 yo about once a week. Kinda pricey, but the kids all enjoy it and seem to retain a fair amount.
