  1. My dd loves the Lyric Language CD but I agree it is nowhere near a complete program- after you have listened to it a lot (like for months in my case!) you will start picking up new phrases and words though. We just play it while we're picking up the house or in the car. We use Ecoutez, Parlez! for our main program (have a little review of this on my blog) and supplement with other CD's and games.
  2. My ds is also disliking phonics, I'm not sure if I'm going to have him continue or not. I think we will finish up with our BOB books and go onto the set of McGuffy readers I have.
  3. We tend to switch off between the WTM literature lists, Ambleside Online, a longer science read aloud, and history.
  4. We started out with HWOT and I didn't think I cared about HW very much so I didn't push perfection. Then I heard about italic handwriting and decided to give that a try. Wow, I am so impressed with my 7 y.o.'s handwriting now, it's really nice. I hope she carries it into adulthood. I have terrible handwriting unless I write really slow and it drives me nuts.
  5. I just started doing weekly reports (what a great idea), the link is in my sig...
  6. We used it last year for first grade (life science). I really liked it at first but towards the end there seemed to be more written/busy work than she liked (lab sheets, diagrams etc.) and it seemed a bit dry. The actual activity/experiment part usually went over quite well. I wasn't impressed with their list of go along books and just found my own. I haven't looked at earth & space but have heard good things.
  7. Hi, I've had issues like this forever- the things I've found out that contribute to it are: I'm hypoglycemic, prone to iron deficiency anemia, & my blood pressure drops abnormally low when I change position (this is pretty common & has a fancy name that eludes me). I hope you figure it out & wish your dd well!
  8. I'm using Artistic Pursuits with a 7 year old, the first book & I liked it enough to buy the 2nd book. I love that it correlates with history- we're doing ancients and it's had a few projects about Ancient Rome for example. My dd loves doing it and the materials for the first book at least were easy to find. The second book I know has some stranger things like a brayer, which I had to order from Rainbow Resource since I coiuldn't find one. I like the questions you can ask to prompt the kids as they study the picture because I'm pretty clueless about art. I have noticed that when she sees art other than from the program or in a museum she pays more attention to it. I don't like the size of the art provided, it's on flimsy paper and barely bigger than a postcard. But most of the projects were well recieved & different from what we've done before. They do take a while to complete- yesterday it took 3 hours to do the project but my dd gets really involved. I don't know anything about the other program.
  9. Hi everyone, I'm new here & new to blogging also-ours is in my signature.:)
  10. My dd (almost 8) likes spelling workout b/c it has little crosswords & things. We tried Spelling Power and she loved it at first but it's very repetitive, always completing the steps when you misspell a word got really old for her and she would start crying every time she got one wrong. I don't really "supervise" the spelling lesson, I just ask her to do a page each day and check it for errors. I'm taking the wait and see approach- if she turns out to be a terrible speller when she's a little older I'll have to get more involved.
