  1. :iagree::iagree::iagree: (except for the same-sex marriage part) AND I believe I read somewhere that she attends San Diego Christian College (a conservative, evangelical college of the SBC), which, of course, would be in her application. SOOOOO....out of all the questions to ask, he picks the one from California (where they voted down gay marriage) who attends a conservative Christian college to ask about gay marriage? And we are supposed to believe it wasn't a set-up? PUH-LEASE. I think the whole competition and beauty pageants in general should be done away with.
  2. Happy Anniversary Sheri! I was also thinking of all the single parents on this board who still manage to homeschool. And those going through divorce who still manage to homeschool. And those dealing with addiction in their kids or spouse or self...and still manage to homeschool. Do you all realize how amazing that is? Anyone of those issues could make someone curl up in a corner and refuse to cope but you all homeschool through these issues and for some reason, today, I am just stunned by it all. :grouphug:
  3. The women (and men) here amaze me. I was reading the post about the child in the wheelchair...and all the posts that followed...and thinking back over the thousands of posts I've read here over the years.... What an amazingly strong, intelligent, diverse group of people we have here! Each of us has a struggle we face or something we do that another person on this board thinks "How does he/she do that?" I think of the parents here who are dealing with severe disabilities in their kids (sometimes multiple kids) and I think "how does she do it?" because I am not sure I could. And the parents who have 10 kids and homeschool them all with all of the responsibilities of being a wife and mother and I'm like ?????? And the families who have been out of work for months and months and are still holding it together somehow. And the moms like me who work full time outside the home but still manage to homeschool your children. And the parents who are dealing with a spouse on deployment and being both parents to their child for extended periods of time. How do you do it? And parents who willingly foster/adopt special needs children. God bless you. And parents who are coping with serious illness and disease in their own lives and still homeschooling. I could go on and on. Something about that post just really smacked me in the head and I thought "what an awesome bunch of MIGHTY parents are on this board...strong beyond measure." I applaud you all. If I missed something feel free to add.... in terms of "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"...what has made you a stronger parent?
  4. My ds turns 11yo this month and he is an emotional rollercoaster...loving and sweet one moment, surly and cranky the next. Huge growth spurts, always tired, always hungry...poor little guy.
  5.:lol::lol: that was SOOOOO funny! I haven't tried it but my BFF did and it made her VERY gassy. :tongue_smilie:
  6. My Kindle 2 is supposed to arrive today. Did I make a mistake? Should I send it back and get the DX?
  7. We have friends who are missionaries in the Appalachian Mountain area here in the U.S. and friends who started a church in a poor urban area that consider themselves missionaries to the inner city.
  8. We did PL in 2nd grade and it was perfect...a slower intro into Latin before LCI which speeds things up quite a bit.
  9. I liked that book a lot. It had a lot of my own feelings in it.
  10. The idea of a needle in my neck makes me feel slightly faint! I am so sorry you are going through this. :grouphug:
  11. It's a tough call sometimes. In some areas I am VERY conservative but in others, not so much. Like there are very few TV shows my kids are allowed to watch, we believe in courtship not recreational dating, I am a devout Christian, I vote Republican, I am pro-life, etc. BUT I don't do the "submissive wife" thing, I work full time outside the home, I think men and women are equal, I let my kids trick or treat and watch Harry Potter, etc. I really don't know where I fit in sometimes. :confused1:
  12. Admitting you have a problem is the first step. :D I get ya, I totally LOVE coffee and coffee-flavored anything!
  13. YES YES YES A cup of coffee is the very first thing I do every morning and I look forward to it every day. It is my little morning ritual. My hubby is so awesome because he sets it up at night on a timer so it is ready right when I stumble out of bed. If I didn't have my coffee in the morning I would be so discombobulated! I would probably put my pants on backwards and use hairspray for deoderant and try to curl my hair while it is still wet...my whole day would be thrown off! :tongue_smilie:
  14. The growth spurt, inattention, etc. seems pretty normal (my ds went through it, is going through it again). But I would be concerned about the migraines. I have suffered through migraines since puberty and they are brutal. I would have a doctor check that out just to be safe. :grouphug:
