  1. Prairiewindmama, (((hugs))) I had not known about your dd.
  2. I got a creepy vibe the other day, when my Amazon account showed a photo of a package on my porch floor. Too invasive, imo. There was a button to opt out of photos, and I clicked it.
  3. Our children's hospital has a ER. We have only gone for true emergencies, like appendicitis. But there is a separate operation in same hospital complex where pediatric evaluations and therapy is done, six month wait. But, by calling every week -- on whatever day weekly schedule was made -- I got to know the scheduling people and reiterated that I could be in on an hours notice. That got results. Ymmv. But I've never had a situation like op's that was *both* complicated and extremely time sensitive.
  4. I don't have any expertise, but your daughter's symptoms are alarming. The NYTimes magazine section frequently has articles about with devastating symptoms, not helped by any medical treatment -- until someone, somewhere hits on the correct diagnosis. What is common to all is the vast numbers of professionals who cannot figure out what is wrong before someone gets it. Sometimes it's a specialist, sometimes a new doctor who recalls an obscure article. I guess what I am trying to say is that you need to see more doctors asap, as many have suggested. How do patients get to someplace like the Mayo Clinic? Maybe starting with a multidisciplinary team locally? My experience has been with much less urgent or severe things, but when I needed appointments, I would call repeatedly, but always in a friendly way, be ready to come in to fill in a cancellation. The list of symptoms you have is pretty alarming. Can you send that to various children's hospitals, specialists, etc? I can't quote on phone, but I don't think ktgrok's suggestion of driving to a children's hospital and insisting on being seen is out of line.
  5. Here are some ideas. Well, too much stuff, but some good recs. https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/college-school-supplies/ I didn't read all the posts, but I believe that Bed, Bath and Beyond lets you select items in one store and will then have another store nearer school deliver to dorm. I have also seen compact recharging stations, will try to find link. ETA Found it https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-multiport-usb-wall-charger/
  6. Good suggestion! It sends a signal that you will fight.
  7. (((Melissa))) I didn't find this thread in the morning, so I have no idea what I am doing, lol.
  8. I think you should visit schools to get a sense of what appeals to your ds. Large vs small, urban vs smaller town, etc. My ds was totally set on one particular school, but after he visited it and a number of other colleges, he completely changed his mind.
  9. I'd want to check moving company paperwork. Was one of your family responsible for checking off that items were on truck? Or was there an inventory? People often want to move family photos and papers themselves, so movers could have assumed? In any case, moving contracts usually have a deductible, so they might be able to wiggle out of fixing the mistake. Btw, I wouldn't complain to the movers until the truck is unloaded safely at your new location. Trailer hitches are expensive, might not be worth it if the Outback is older. Good luck!
  10. Margaret, I hope you stay somewhere to break up your driving. Stay safe! Well, dinner last night was great. Table looked pretty, and food was delicious. I am realizing how different the poultry farm chicken is from even the upscale supermarket offerings. It stays moist and juicy without any extra effort on my part. Ds has left his box of Lindt truffles in the kitchen where I can see it. I have read the enclosed brochure with description of each truffle in English and French. Ds was supposed to hide the box. I. will. not. eat. any. I need/want to make another trip to the asupply store for more picture framing materials. 🙂 I also have to make a trip to Goodwill that I have been putting off. Need to add items to my tax deduction spreadsheet first. Dropping stuff off is so boring. 🙠I am doing some decluttering in basement -- art supplies from early elementary days. The solidified poster paint and faded construction paper was easy to get rid of. But now I am faced with a big assortment of mini spray bottles, cute stamps, bingo bottles, and so on. Much of the stuff has never been used, so I feel guilty throwing it out. I realize that it makes no sense to save things we never used. (Goodwill doesn't take toys, and these would probably count as toys.)
  11. Can't quote on phone, but second the Glide for prevention. REI has a great selection.
  12. I give candy and get homemade cards. My special blessing is that kids are not in elementary school any more. Policy -- which I think is good -- that, if you give valentines, everyone in class must get one. Policy -- which I now wish I had ignored -- is that kids prepare the cards themselves, writing names on envelops, stuffing envelopes. It took more time than I could have imagined possible. We celebrate with a meal. And this year we got a tiny (6") rustic wooden heart for the back door. We dug it out of a sea of red glitter in a local discount store. No price tag, so we were charged $2. We also got a rustic St Patrick's day hanging thing, found in a sea of green glitter, also $2.
  13. Things I didn't get to yesterday and the day before and.... Make a flourless chocolate cake. Coeur a la creme and raspberry Grand Marnier sauce were done yesterday, took hardly any time at all. Planning to set a pretty table with some flowered Dresden stlyle china, pink linens, rose napkin rings, pink candles. Pick up some pink flowers. Otherwise very simple, easy to cook dinner -- chicken breast (fresh, from poultry farm) with mushroom-herb-sherry sauce (no cream, because of desserts later), grilled radicchio, snow peas.
  14. Genius, huh? Had to quote, lol. I need to organize my recipes better, too. But I do have a number scanned. It's great for holidays with a lot of cooking, because I made a 1/2" binder with only what I need. Otherwise I find heaps of cookbooks falling off counters.
  15. Copying recipes -- have you tried taking a photo (or scan) using phone or tablet? I do this, then save the image. It's handy because I have a digital copy for when (not if, lol) I lose paper copy.
  16. The good: go to speciality shop to get hand made Italian ricotta for tomorrow's coeur a la creme, get good chocolate for flourless chocolate cake. Make the coeur a la creme, as it has to sit overnight. Make raspberry Grand Marnier sauce. The so-so: stop as big, hectic supermarket. Other stuff I can't remember now. The yucky: pack up some items I am returning and take to UPS. This is not intellectually challenging or even time-consuming. I just hate it. I made two shepherds pies yesterday. Kids did not touch the second, and everybody wants it for dinner tonight, so that is done. 🙂
  17. Selfie -- I love Melissa Maker's YouTube channel. Id like to know what you think of her book. I am reading a book by Barbara Milo Ohrbach called Tabletops. Luscious pictures of china, silver, etc. that would appeal to people who don't want Kondo to rule their lives. The author has a nice quote from Victor Hugo, "the beautiful is as useful as the useful, perhaps more so." Today will be a catch up day after two big driving days last weekend. I am also looking forward to hanging some more pictures. Shepherds pie for dinner.
  18. I can't believe I just watched videos of clothes being washed, lol. Very disturbing results. The world as we know it is slipping away.
  19. For china, you should look to see if there are markings on the back. If there is not a manufacturers name, you can google things such as 'back stamp shield and crown' in order to help with identification. Once you know the maker, you can look on the Replacements website to identify pattern, prices. Similarly with silver, check stamps to see if it is sterling. American silver may say 'Sterling,' while other countries have other methods of identification. Replacements and Antique Cupboard are two websites with lots of pictures. You really want to separate the sterling from the plated silver, very different values. I think Replacements has an identification service. Another method is to google for pictures of 'most popular silver patterns' or blue and white china.' If pattern is common, you may get a hit right away.
  20. Thank you! I stand corrected. Obviously, I am the parent of a user, not a user myself, lol.
  21. Deleting, because I was wrong! Corrections by another poster are downthread. I don't want to mislead anyone!
  22. Like yesterday, four hours of driving back and forth for a kid activity. I'm sure there will be some nice things too, but it's too early for me to think of them now, lol.
  23. Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. I was hoping it was just a credit card breach, but it sounds like a comprehensive theft, sadly. You might was to file your personal tax return asap (by mail) even if you have to amend later, in order to prevent thieves from getting refunds, if there are any. I don't know if this is the recommended procedure, but I would make a police report and take a copy to local branches of federal and state tax offices. Perhaps also drop off completed tax forms there. That's what I'd do anyway, but I tend to be a bit paranoid about these things. In your position, I'd want to troubleshoot where things went wrong -- computer software, a person going through garbage, etc. Not that it is easy to figure out. What a nightmare for you!
