  1. When I was ordering I talked to the curriculum person at Rainbow Resource and she told me the teacher's manual was not necessary in the younger grades. There are different editions, Wordly Wise and Wordly Wise 3000 (of which there is a 1st and 2nd edition). Wordly Wise 3000 2nd edition goes by grade starting in K.
  2. I was under the impression that the HIG started in book 2A and the guides you have are for 1A/1B. I also have these teachers guides because at the time that is what was available. HTH
  3. My DD likes (and still does like) the fairy books by Daisy Meadow. These were actually her first chapter books when she was 5 (she was an early reader too). There are several series of 7 books each and a few stand alone books. I think on a comparable level to Magic Tree House books. Also, there is a series of Disney Fairies, but these may be a bit more advanced for her level, but something to look into for the future :).
  4. I personally like Staples and have found them to be reliable and their prices to be the best. JMHO
  5. I used it after Teach you child to read in 100 easy lessons. I thought it was a great stand alone.
  6. I have not forgotten about the requests for the rewards. I will try to post them by Monday, sorry for the delay, but my mom has been sick and we are not at home right now. If I have a moment before then I will email you ladies the chart. Thanks for understanding.
  7. I do have a list, but seems the document is too big to attach . My email is twogirlsmommy@gmail.com. Send me a message and I would be glad to share my list!
  8. DD 8 gets 3 tickets at the beginning of each school day. She will lose tickets for bad attitude (which is usually what she loses tickets for), disobedience, etc. What she has at the end of the day she puts into a jar. We have a prize list that she can "shop" from on Friday. She can spend her tickets or save them. Now, we school for 4 days, so max is 12 tickets. There are a few candy prizes for 5 tickets, but most of the stuff she wants is from 20 to 100 tickets :). It is good for her to learn to save for what she wants, and motivation for good behavior.
  9. I took my books apart myself and put them in a 3 ring binder. I just carefully tear out the pages, cut a bit off the edge that was torn out, and then 3 hole punch them and put them in a binder. Yes, seperate teacher and student books would be idea.
  10. I put in DVD's that I want DD to watch for school, computer time for her educational things, games to play (any type), baking, cooking, projects, etc. I try to do a few of the heavier subjects followed by something fun. We always end with a fun thing!
  11. When I speak of everyday, that is every school day, which for us is 4 days, M, W, Th, Fri.
  12. Costco. Three very nice, laminated maps...about $15.
  13. They also have an offer to expedite shipping. For $10 they will ship out everything that is not on back order within 2 business days. Then they ship out back ordered items at no additional cost. You can order and if there are back ordered items decide to expedite shipping. I just ordered and had 2 items on back order. I still received my shipment within 2 weeks. I would say the only problem with ordering late is you may have an item on back order and they just do not know when it will come in. I have had back ordered items come in within a week, but I have had a few that have taken up to 4 weeks to receive.
  14. I started Prima Latina last year with DD with just the CD's and the books. They worked out well and I loaded the CD onto her MP3 player for her to listen to whenever she wanted. I was struggling more with teaching more and kind of was doing a hands off approach and letting her do it herself. That was not working out too well for us. I just bought the DVD's and I think that DD will really benefit from them. Plus she is excited about watching TV for school. I can not tell you how well she likes them because she had not seen them yet. The DVD lessons are 25 minutes each. I think I will have her watch the DVD on day one, listen to the CD and do some workbook work on each of the additional 3 days. I am hoping the DVD teaching will help her with retention, which she was missing (mostly due to my lack of teaching). If by the end of the week she needs more review she can watch the DVD again. I am counting on 30 minutes, four times a week.
  15. I think that dictation had helped my DD with her listening skills, formation of sentences, punctuation, and spelling. I think it is very important!
  16. I use Bible Study Guide for All Ages because it does include both kids. I like the review, the way the info is presented, the maps, and the additional student pages. There are 104 lessons in each book; there are 4 books. We take two days to do each lesson, so it has lasted us a long time.
  17. I don't have photos, but I have a tote that fits file folders and 12 file folders. I put an index card into each folder with the assignment along with any papers needed. Big items like books fit behind each folder. If it is a game I just take it out and set it on the counter because it will not fit. We have a small house, so I have no where for 12 boxes or 24 boxes if I were to use the system for both kids. I have the same system for my preschooler, but it needs some work. It mostly worked for me, but I would like something where she can be a bit more independent.
  18. Here is what we are doing for 3rd Grade: Math Singapore 3A/3B Daily Math Practice History SOTW 3 Science Real Science 4 Kids Chemistry Pre-Level Oceans Unit Study Language Arts FLL 4 WWE 3 Writing Strands 3 A Reason for Spelling D Vocabulary from Classical Roots 4 Building Our Lives (Pathway Reader) Prairie Primer Handwriting A Reason for Handwriting D Foreign Language Prima Latina Speedy Spanish Bible Bible Study Guide for All Ages Art ArtPac from Rod and Staff Come Look with Me Art Adventures at Home Music Listening to Classical CD's and reading biographies of the composers Hopefully some state history and geography!
  19. Winners: SOTW Vol. 2 WWE 2 FLL 3 Reason for Spelling Reason for Handwriting Singapore Math Lapbooking Okay: My Pals are Here Science (I really liked it, DD didn't so much) Losers: Wordly Wise
  20. I personally like Bible Study Guide for all ages. I like how it reviews, there are many activities, application, and study from the Bible. I also like that there are different levels from the same guide so that I can teach both my kids at the same time. There are student pages, which include map work and application. I use both, doing one day with the reading, questions, map, etc. and then one day with the student pages.
  21. My DD is going to do FLL for 4th grade this year, but we are looking at finishing early. So, what do I do from here? She has done FLL all the way through, but I am not sure which is the best and easiest transition now. So, Any opinions would be great. I like Voyages in English, but it is too expensive. I am torn between Rod and Staff and Surley. I would also do Abeka or anything else that is recommened. Thanks!
  22. I use A Reason for Spelling. They have "character" building stories with each lesson (optional, but my DD loves them) along with other activities. I LOVE this curriculum. I looked at the other one and didn't like it. Seemed boring and not really "teaching" spelling the way I wanted to do it. My DD is finishing 2nd grade and finishing the 3rd grade Reason for Spelling. Also, if you are doing handwriting I would suggest using A Reason for Handwriting. The scripture verse of the week in spelling goes along with the handwriting. I just like how the two tie in together.
  23. DH gets paid every other week. So, twice a year we have an "extra" check. We make our major purchases out of this. Then we have a smaller amount per month to spend on misc supplies like paper, glue, etc.
