  1. I really, seriously, deeply hate the "greet your neighbor" part of church. *shudder* It is just so.... fake, and space invading.
  2. Wow. Um. I guess I don't understand why *you* would put your daughter in this environment. I get that a child should know both her parents, but there is no way that I would go along with this situation, especially since it is not legally required. This too, could be considered neglect/abuse by CPS.
  3. Trying to figure out how this would work over here. So, if they are in the car bickering over who is looking out which window .... would I put the car in the box? Their eyeballs??? :tongue_smilie: I too am ALL DONE with bickering.
  4. Thank you so much! The Acorn Naturalists site is fabulous!
  5. Would you happen to remember what they were called? Or who they were by? Anything google-able?
  6. They still use the DK Encyclopedia of Animals. However they seem to be using the World of Animals as a secondary spine. I say seem because I don't actually have the book, and am only going by the assignments on the guide sheets.
  7. I am trying to use WP's Animals And Their Worlds in a secular way. I had not realized that the creationist book The World of Animals was used as a spine. Could someone give me a suggestion for a secular replacement? I can't find any images of the inside of the text, so I don't even really know what I am trying to replace. Help!
  8. I struggle with conceptual math threads. I can totally see how some things, like multiplying fractions can have a deeper understanding, beyond just the rule. But people really lose me when they argue for the concept beyond basic addition. I mean what concept is lurking behind 2+2???
  9. We use the credit cards like cash, paying off each month. Why is it important to stay within your town? The last time I was physically inside a bank was.... years ago.
  10. We do not have debit cards at all because we believe them to be a risk. However we do have credit cards. Our credit card numbers have been stolen three times in the past year - three different cards, two different banks. It is beyond frustrating. :grouphug:
  11. My son is seven and we live in California. He would be excited to write to one or both of your boys (in separate envelopes of course! :). ) Pm me your address.
  12. If it has been used to grind wheat, I think it would be VERY difficult to get it clean enough so that it doesn't contaminate the GF stuff.
  13. We once spent a lot of money with two cats in the ER after they ate liles. We are now a "no indoor plants or flowers" family. Sorry about your kitty.
  14. Thanks for sharing! I seem to be the only one in my community that clings to these ideas with a death grip.
  15. I am struggling to understand when I should move my son (7) forward in the MUS levels/lessons. I would rather drill now than have a problem later. We have "finished" Alpha and are languishing in the land of drill worksheets. He can complete the worksheets fairly speedily, and accurately, but he does still use the blocks for many of the problems. So.... do I move on and eventually he will drop the blocks? More worksheets at this level until he doesn't need the blocks? Something else? We are playing math games, and I have tried flashcards. There is only so much weeping a parent can take.
  16. Food is good! One year I made the guys bunches of frozen cookies, so that they could pull a couple out of their freezer and cook them whenever they wanted.
  17. All of the LIW bio books seem to have mixed reviews. Anyone have a favorite???
  18. The only part I like about cooking dinner is arranging the food on the plate so that it looks nice. So I serve from the kitchen. :D
  19. I agree... but there is some trade off. Like laundry. If I was sewing everyone's clothes, then we would not have more than two outfits each. And certainly reducing each child to a single doll would give me back the hours of my life that I spend picking up Lego pieces....
  20. You may want to check out Animoto: http://animoto.com/ Basically you upload all your stuff (videos, pictures, text), pick a song, and then they mix it into a video. You can pay a small fee ($5?) to make a video. If you don't like the video they make you hit remix and it will produce a different version. Here is an example of a video I made for my husband's birthday: http://animoto.com/play/J7Bvw9NiLXXHBKqty8EnkQ
