  1. The mystery deepens. Ellie? Are you there? Please tell us what's going on with this guy :hat: . We know you don't vote every single day.
  2. LOL! I mean,. We still have the queasy vomit guy, I think: :ack2: . Or did you mean a guy who is *actually* vomiting? I've often been puzzled over this guy :hat:, as well. What does he MEAN? What is he FOR? Is he, like, a Cat in the Hat guy, or a guy looking for a party, or what? I like the fist bump idea. :thumbup1:
  3.   [ETA: I have ADD tendencies myself and am not mocking anyone! But toilet paper really must be within reach.]
  4. :seeya: Obviously I have no authority to actually make anything happen here, but if you could add new emojis to our smiley menu, what would they be? I'd like to see: A cupcake A glass of wine (right now I have to make do with the beer-clinking guys) A bar of chocolate (are you sensing a theme?) A mushroom cloud (for threads destined to explode) A white flag of truce Something to represent "no snark intended" (snark inside a red circle, with a red line across it?) Something 80's, just because I love the 80's (big hair emoji? break dancing emoji?) A peace sign (of course) Any other ideas? :bigear:
  5. Or grab some TP on the way to the toilet! Or maybe that's why that box of Kleenex is sitting on the back of the thing. :)
  6. Is it just me, or does that toilet look almost unusable? Maybe it's the angle of the photo, but it looks distinctly uncomfortable!
  7. Here are some recommendations from my husband :) These aren't his favorite songs, musically, but the lyrics are appropriate. I :001_wub: my man. He says: "Radioactive†is definitely apocalyptic. The original by Imagine Dragons is good (we have that album) but I actually prefer the cover by Pentatonix and Lindsey Stirling found here: “It’s the End of the World†by R.E.M. is a little too obvious :) “Sleep Now in the Fire†by Rage Against the Machine isn’t apocalyptic, but it does remind me of the election quite a bit. I just re-watched the video and at 1:04 you can see someone holding a “Trump for President†sign — for the 2000 election! Here is the video (interestingly made by Michael Moore): Here are some lyrics from Linkin Park’s “Wretches and Kingsâ€: There's a time, when the operation of the machine becomes so odious Makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part You can't even passively take part And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels Upon the levers, upon all the apparatus And you've got to make it stop The election also makes “Lies Greed Misery†by Linkin Park a little too appropriate: . The song kind of sucks (OK, it does suck) but it’s hard to argue with these lyrics: I wanna see you choke on your lies Swallow up your greed Suffer all alone in your misery [i feel like I should say that my husband is actually very gentle and kind. He doesn't suffer fools lightly, though.] You might also like these lyrics from Linkin Park’s song “Hands Held High†about the war in Iraq.
  8. Extra props for all the 80's songs! :coolgleamA: <-----(these are being worn at night, of course)
  9. ananemone, are you still around?
  10. Amen. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.†This Is My Song (A Song of Peace) would also be very appropriate, I think.
  11. I get this when my body is overloaded with histamine. I sometimes get hives from heat or stress, and itchiness of the scalp often precedes the hives. Antihistamines like Zyrtec and a low-histamine diet are most helpful for me.
  12. I love little take along playmats, like this or this, paired with animal or fantasy figures.
  13. That's for sure, on both counts. JC's Hurt might be another good one for post-election catharsis. :)
  14. I was thinking of suggesting NIN's Head Like a Hole, which echoes the same sentiment with its "you're going to get what you deserve" line. :) What a mess we're in.
  15. One more: All Along the Watchtower (I like U2's version)
  16. I almost suggested Mozart's Requiem. I like Bad Moon Rising, too!
  17. Self-explanatory. I'll start. My Country, Midnight Oil It's the End of the World as We Know It, REM Come Thou Long Expected Jesus (yes, I know it's a Christmas song :) )
  18.   Sparkly, you're a woman after my own heart.
  19. My previous dog was named Scout, after the character in To Kill a Mockingbird, even though he was a boy dog. :)
  20. nm, other people did a better job articulating what I was trying to get at. :)
  21. We have a black pastor friend who is afraid to come to our predominately white town at night. :( He doesn't make an issue of it or seek to draw attention to it, although he would be well within his rights to do so (and I would support him if he chose to do so). His fear saddens me and encourages me to want to do something about racism. His love for all people in the face of such prejudice is inspiring to me.
  22. If you're looking for something topical this time around, how about reading and discussing some autobiographies of female missionaries? A lot of people like the Christian Heroes Then and Now series, and quite a few of them are about women. Or perhaps a book about women in the persecuted church, like Hearts of Fire: Eight Women in the Underground Church and Their Stories of Costly Faith?
  23. Here is an update from today, from her dad: "Thank you so much for your prayers for us. I would like to send this picture of [--] ...one month later! Praise the Lord!...I can't seem to find a picture of [--] with stitches all over her face and hooked up to six or eight drug and sedative pumps, breathing machine, heart monitors, brain pressure monitor, feeding tube, and all sorts of needles stuck into her body. She has come an amazingly long way. We will be discharged from [rehabilitation hospital] on Monday morning, and will begin outpatient occupational and speech therapy several days a week from Monday onwards." WTM friends, I wish you could see the photo. She is standing with her mother and not only looks well and happy, but glowing. :) Another update from several days ago: Thanks for your continued prayers for [--]! She has gotten settled at the rehabilitation center and is working hard towards recovery. They are doing speech therapy, problem solving exercises, daily living exercises, and continued occupational and physical therapy. The big news from today is that she was able to swallow clear liquids meaning that now there is no more restriction whatsoever on her diet! She is really happy about that! We are so so thankful that she is making good progress but know that she still has a long way to go. Please pray for her energy as the exercises are very tiring for her each day but are so essential towards her healing! Because she is so easily tired, the doctors are still hoping we keep the visitors to a minimum at this time. Thank you- each of you- so much for your prayers and support for [--] and our family! We are truly so blessed and so thankful! If anyone would like a link to the public Facebook page about her recovery, I would be happy to send it in a PM. Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers!
