  1. I'm glad she has you to look after her so well. I am so sad for her and for you, but I know she is in good hands.
  2. I think the socks are a wonderful idea, Scarlett. I agree with Stephanie. Just keep her as comfortable as you can and talk to a vet if possible about adjusting her meds. Be careful she doesn't get too hot under the heat lamp, as she might not be able to move away from it at this point. Just be with her and love on her. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  3. I'm so sorry, Spryte. I had to say goodbye to my boy about two years ago and know how difficult it is. Huge :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: .
  4. I'm wondering about this, too, because antibiotics could make a fungal infection worse (possibly steroids, too, if they lowered her immunity). Fungal infections can also be very painful. I'm surprised the vet hasn't done a culture already. You might want to ask for one, Scarlett, if you can manage to get and keep your dog's pain under control. I'm pretty sure my dog once had to take oral medication for a fungal skin infection. :grouphug:
  5. Is it the grass specifically that hurts her feet or just walking? If it's the grass, can you find a soft patch of soil for her to use instead? IDK, just a thought. Does the sedative seem to help with the pain? If so, maybe you should continue giving it regularly until you can get to the vet. I always think of that Herriot story in which he deliberately kept a dog sedated for several days to give her a chance to sleep and heal. I wonder if you could give enough sedative to help her sleep through the night and put a diaper on her if necessary. Please keep us updated as you can. The poor baby. It's so hard, I know. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  6. I am so sorry, Scarlett. I will pray. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  7. We could. I have enormous respect for most Anabaptist denominations, but some Amish churches have veered far into cultish practices and beliefs.
  8. Does she use the microfiber Turbie Twists or the terry ones? The terry ones don't work for my long hair at all, but the microfiber ones do. I used an Aquis towel for years, but found the microfiber Turbie ones work just as well. I didn't want to shell out $20 for a single towel again!
  9. Me, either, and neither has my husband. :o We're still spoiled and go to other people's houses!
  10. Thank you for your thoughtful response. Yes, animals kill each other and all kinds of unpleasant things occur in nature. It was the apparently gleeful (haha, smiley faces) enjoyment of the mice's suffering that I found disrespectful. Yes, there is a lot of precedence for enjoying watching animals suffer. Bull fights, dog fights, and (some) hunting all come to mind. Precedence doesn't make it right. I have sympathy for you in regards to your mouse problem. I personally do like mice, but not in my house. We have always used live traps in homes in which we were living. I have used snap traps in a home we were selling, because I wasn't able to check live traps daily and it would have been more cruel to let the mice starve than to kill them quickly. We likely have plenty of areas of agreement outside of this issue! I just felt that the way in which you were speaking of the animals' deaths was unkind, so I spoke up. If it's necessary to kill another creature, it seems best to do it in the least stressful and least painful way possible. That's my take on it, anyway.
  11. LOL. No. I'm uncomfortable with the show for other reasons, but probably wouldn't forbid watching it. We'd definitely have a discussion if my daughter happened to see the Dixie Stampede field trip episode, though. Shudder.
  12. I admit that my husband also had to explain this to me when I was in my 30's. I was uneducated about racism and unaware that this particular insult was even a thing. :( I appreciate this conversation. Thanks to you all for hanging in there.
  13. Yes. I'm not sure. I've been blessed with a perceptive and understanding family. Yes. I agree with SparklyUnicorn. It just doesn't seem that odd to me that someone might lose emotional control after a stressful day, especially a young child with sensory issues.
  14. Does anyone else remember the original Pepsi Challenge taste tests? :) Wikipedia says: "In his book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking (2005), author Malcolm Gladwell presents evidence that suggests Pepsi's success over Coca-Cola in the 'Pepsi Challenge' is a result of the flawed nature of the 'sip test' method. His research shows that tasters will generally prefer the sweeter of two beverages based on a single sip, even if they prefer a less sweet beverage over the course of an entire can. When the preference in blind tests is compared to tests wherein cups are labeled with arbitrary labels (e.g., S or L) or brand names, the ratings of preference change."
  15. I don't see what's funny or entertaining about watching a living creature be hunted and violently killed. :(
  16. Is the brand you use available online? I'm desperately in need of quality pencil sharpeners!
  17. Thank you for posting this, Sparkly. It's truth that needs to be seen. Those poor, poor birds.
  18. It's gorgeous, and she's a beautiful young woman, too.
  19. I think it's sweet. I started dating my husband when I was 16. I've done a lot of really stupid things in my life, but marrying him was the best decision I ever made.
  20. I have to admit that even though I vehemently disagree with keeping wild animals as pets, I love those pictures. The maid stepping over the lion in the kitchen--oh, my! Melanie's mom Tippi Hendren (of The Birds fame) has been involved in animal rights activism for many years now and runs Shambala Preserve for big cats. She said in an interview, "I cringe when I see those pictures now. I have to tell you we were stupid beyond belief. We should never have taken those risks. These animals are so fast, and if they decide to go after you, nothing but a bullet to the brain will stop them."
  21. I love buying handmade items, and I know we have some Etsy sellers here on the forum. With the holidays coming up, I thought this would be great time to showcase the work of the artisans and crafters in our forum community. If you have an Etsy shop or other shop featuring handmade items and are willing to post the link in this thread, please do so! :) (Just FTR, I am not artsy, not crafty, and am not selling anything myself. Mods, if this thread is not acceptable, please delete it.) ETA: If you would prefer that your store not be linked to your WTM profile due to privacy concerns, PM the link to me and I'll post it here.

  23. "The word heathen is an older translation of the Hebrew word goyim in the Old Testament. The word goyim literally meant 'nations' and could refer broadly to all the nations of the world. In other contexts, the word was used to distinguish other nations from Israel, the people of God (Joshua 23:7; 1 Kings 11:2)...In the New Testament, the corresponding word is ethne, the source of our English word ethnic. It is the word used in Matthew 28:19 when Jesus commands His followers to make disciples of all 'nations.'" https://gotquestions.org/what-is-a-heathen.html
  24. I hear you, but hopefully you would be able to use them for years. I don't sew, I don't want to sew, and a couple hours of my time is worth $20 to me.
