  1. Sorry to post and then just disappear. I appreciate all of your suggestions and support! My daughter figured it out. I'm glad that she has me to confide in and vent to but sometimes it is more difficult on me than her. Haha. Anyway, she is great at problem solving which is probably due to having to finds ways around her dyslexia her whole life. She was able to find out that most of the information can be added to an online account before her appointments so there is little need now for her to write much out at all! Why no one told her that is surprising to both of us. She is doing well with her job and has been top salesperson for a few weeks in a row now. I'm so happy for her and it has given her some confidence so that is helpful, as well. As far as getting accommodations she is very hesitant to do that. She had some negative experiences in college-one program she was in actually told her that she had to spell things correctly and if she couldn't this wasn't the program for her-even knowing that she had accommodations! She ended up deciding she didn't want to do the program and left but a few of her friends actually reported the teacher and I think there was a big restructuring of the program. If she was going to stay I think she would have fought it but she hasn't found that most people support the accommodations and she doesn't want to fight all the time.
  2. Thank you for the post it note idea. She does sometimes ask them to write down their information for her but the post it notes seem even better.
  3. She sells insurance so she is required to go to enrollments and enter people's names and addresses as well as additional information quickly. I think sometimes it is with a computer and other times with pen and paper. I cross-posted this on another board and also added that she has some processing disorders where she has trouble working quickly so that is also an issue. She is a perfectionist and hates to make a mistake so what probably a lot of her stress and what she thinks is her doing her job terribly is not even noticed by others.
  4. Hello, My daughter has dyslexia/dysgraphia and we were able to remediate it to the point where she is able to read anything with excellent comprehension. She is 26 and is struggling in the workplace because she still has difficulty reading and spelling people's names and she has problems if she is called on to write or type addresses and names quickly. She basically lives her work day in extreme stress. I would love to find a program or any suggestions to help her get to the point where this is less of an issue. She almost has her associate degree but this is also a big reason why she is concerned about pursuing additional schooling. She had additional time and other accommodations in school that made this a little easier but she is realizing that she needs to work through this difficulty to reach more of her goals. Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated! I cross posted this on the learning challenges board too. One additional thing I should add is that I think speed is also an issue. She was diagnosed with a processing disorder, as well when she was tested at 16 so I think part of her fear is the ability to type/write the information in a limited amount of time. When we homeschooled, she did a lot of work orally because she had extreme difficulty getting words from her brain onto paper. I think a structured practice of writing of some type would also help, Not sure how that would work or if anything like that is available?

  6. We are going September 2016 on Royal Caribbean and are super excited! I am just beginning to do research about what to do on each island. We leave from Vancouver, are at sea for 5 days, then tour the islands and end up in Honolulu. I have a few books that should help with planning.
  7. You may want to check with a functional medicine or holistic doctor. They may be able to suggest natural products to use in place and help with tapering off the present medications.
  8. Was this your yearly check up or were you seeing him for a problem? I know that with my insurance now the regular checkup only involves talking, not an exam. If the doctor examines me for any issues, or the discussion goes beyond a well visit then my insurance will not pay it. I need to go in for a well visit, schedule blood work, etc that the doctor suggests and then make a different appointment to discuss any issues or problems I'm having.
  9. Glad he went in and you found out about the BP! For the shoulder, if he gets a diagnosis and you are able to find a really good massage therapist who does deep tissue massage you may want to look at that route. I had a pinch nerve with pain radiating down my left arm, numbness, couldn't type at work. The physical therapist that I was referred to seemed like she didn't know what was going on. I didn't feel very confident, so I saw my dd's friend who is a massage therapist. She said "I am sure we can fix this in around 5 weeks." I went once a week for 5 weeks and the difference is amazing! I now do arm exercises and stretches to strengthen it but she basically fixed the pain and numbness.
  10. I went to Starbucks and ordered a Frappuccino. I told them my name was Patti but it came back printed on my cup as "Phatty." I guess they were trying to tell me something?
  11. Golf? It's a great individual sport but she can also be part of a high school or college team eventually if she wants. Requires strength and flexibility. A great sport for girls!
  12. I say this to my new ddil about once a week. LOL.
  13. Here in FL you would be overdressed. Ladies go to the grocery store in bikinis with short cover-ups over them. Most of them are over 50.
  14. I have not read the book so I am not sure I totally understand the parent oriented idea. My kids are adults now, My ds is 24 and married and my dd is 22 and lives at home with us right now. They are both very confident, independent, and sure about following their own ideas. They are not easily influenced by others and they have always seemed to be mature beyond their years. I think the downside to their confidence was/is they treat everyone as peers including their parents and other adults. They have learned to be more polite and considerate to their elders as they grew up. I don't know how much of this is personality and how much is how they were raised but I don't think we raised them to be this particular way? They both tend to embrace our values in most areas.
  15. I dealt with this for about a year. My was more acid reflux related. My acid reflux didn't really have symptoms until it got really bad but I had burning in my mouth and the back of my throat on my tongue. I still get it from time to time but for my it is reduced by taking over the counter PPI's. I do think mine is an unusual cause. I did tell my doctor that I though my burning mouth was related to my reflux. He disagreed. He did suggest that I take DGL and said it helps with that condition.
  16. I was looking into Lifelock but am reading bad reviews. Any other suggestions?
  17. Dorothy Hamill. Figure skater. I used to have the same haircut growing up, too.
  18. We went on an Alaskan Cruise on Royal Caribbean in 2010 on the Radiance of the Seas. It was wonderful! The good news is that if you don't want to get super dressed up, people tend to dress less formal on the Alaskan cruises. I did take a few dressy dresses for formal night but you would probably be fine with dressy pants suits. My dh wore suits on those night. I took some jeans and shirts, sweaters, that I could layer, a really warm jacket and a pair of waterproof walking shoes, a few dress shoes. Most of my shirts, sweaters could be worn with dress pants for dinner, also.
  19. My parents fit 3 cars in a fairly small driveway. My mother's car tends to be the middle car and my dad can't see out of 1 eye. About once a month there is a mark on one of the cars and one of my parents will come to my house and tell me not to tell the other one that he or she hit their car, hoping that the other person will think they did it. It's really pretty funny and my dh and I usually end up telling on the guilty party eventually. Haha.
  20. We have found success with these supplements: Magnesium. We like Neuromag by Life Extension. Omega 3 fish Oil and most importantly 5-htp. Helped with sleep and moods Ubiquinol and Rhodiola also seemed to help but we found that when we removed them the other supplements continued to do what was needed
  21. I am an introvert. My dh was a campus minister at the time we got engaged. Initially he was going to ask me in front of the church from the pulpit on a Sunday that he was preaching. Instead, he opted for a quiet time with just the 2 of us. I probably would have not enjoyed the public announcement at all.
  22. Need suggestions for best permanent removal method for male pattered stomach hair and underarm hair removal. Also, what to look for to find the best provider in terms of licensing, etc?
  23. Dog-Ziggy, Dog-Katie and cats-Nike, Mizuno (Mizzy for short) and Callaway (Calley for short). My dd wanted to name the cats sports names.
  24. My dd's hair is very long and oily. She uses Pantene now and is able to go for a few days without having to wash it.
  25. Our dog is close to 13 and she has a good amount of plaque build up on her teeth. We have had them professionally cleaned in the past but her lungs don't seem as strong as they used to so we are concerned about putting her under for the procedure. Have any of you found natural products that help with cleaner teeth. This would be after the fact, once a good amount of plaque is present.
