  1. I have AAS 1 & 2. (purchased used and together) Now, I need AAS 3 & 4. Will I need to order the Teacher pack and student materials for each one? Silly, I know but all my stuff came in a big box all mixed up, so I'm not sure what you actually get with just one level. I just don't want to order duplicate stuff. kwim? thanks Angela
  2. My little LOVES logic. We have gone through the first 2 beginner books. It is now time for A1,etc. It doesn't seem that you get very much for your money with these books. Does anyone have a favorite alternative book (ie cheaper) to use for logic for this age group? Thanks Angela
  3. Well, that's kind of how I was thinking. For the lessons with memory selections, I was thinking of just reading it for "enjoyment". kwim? Angela
  4. Growing with Grammar is our primary language/grammar program. I'm looking to use the newer edition of PLL (Serl) as a supplement. The memory selections in PLL seem to be rather lengthy. How do you guys handle this and how long do you work on the memory lessons? Any other info on how you work with this book would be helpful! thanks so much Angela
  5. I just need to know how many logic problems are in this book. Thanks Angela
  6. Have you looked through the Sonlight list? Angela
  7. I would look into MUS. It hasn't been "perfect" for us (we are also doing Horizons). But it was the "lesser evil" for us. Angela
  8. Thank you so much for answering. I'm just determined to get some things done this year! Angela
  9. We adore ETC. It has always been one of our favorites. Try to find AAS used. You will probably go trough level 1 pretty fast. Angela
  10. First of all, have you already tried SWO, or at least held it and looked at it? Angela
  11. I'm just bumping (my oldest is in 3rd grade). I'm just interested in hearing more about this. Angela
  12. These are the ones we have. You can also look at the Starfall website for games too. I really tried to stick to phonetic readers. Angela
  13. Have you looked into AAS? It has done wonders for us! Angela
  14. BRAVO!! You are a full year ahead of were I was at this age. I was running around concentrating on history/science/art -- you know, all the fun stuff. I had to get hit with a brick wall to finally listen to what everyone had been telling me since my first day of homeschooling --- it's all about the reading, everything else will come after. I think one of the greatest things we did was "book camp" (think "boot camp"). Everything stopped and all we did was reading. We read and read and read. Now, with lots of tears (hers and mines) MY BABY IS READING CHAPTER BOOKS!!!!! I think I would suggest sitting down with your child, some sort of book you think he should be able to read and a notebook. Watch him, listen to him and take some notes. Find out where the real trouble lies. There might just be a few mistakes, that he makes over and over again. This can really put a wrench in the works. I just really want to give you lots of :grouphug:. Angela
  15. Well, I can't really speak to the questions you've asked, but .... I used HOP and ETC together, even though they did not "match-up". I cut the bind off of the ETC, and hole punched it. I then re-organized it to match-up with the HOP. This worked like a charm for the first 3 books of ETC. After that, we were finishing up HOP and just did the ETC as we came to it. I'm gearing up to do this again with my dd5. Angela
  16. Hi, First of all, have you had his eyes tested? (by a good pediatric opthamologist??) Second, I'm a big, big fan of ETC. We've only just started AAS, but love, love it. I agree about stopping grammar until reading is established. Angela
  17. I'm trying to work on a schedule for our whole school year. By nature, I'm not a box checker, but by nature a LOT of things have fallen through the cracks and not gotten done --- like the Pianimals that I've had for months and months and not even started. I realize that this is something that my kids will move through at their own pace, but I still want to at least skeleton plan it. From what I see of the books, they are not divided into lessons. (Are they???) Anyway, I'd like to know on average how many pages you do per lesson/ how often you have a lesson / how often you practice/ how long it took you to finish the whole program???? I'm primarily using it with my 8dd, but 5dd will also be tagging along (3ds already thinks he's Elton John, so he wil be "doing" some piano too!) Any advice for my "schedule" would be greatly appreciated. thank you so much for your time Angela
  18. Thank you all for responding! It looks like we'll be doing a lesson or so a day while we're still in the review stage (dd8 also started in book 1). Then as we progress we will probably slow down to one lesson per week (or so!). Thanks so much! I am just trying to "pace" out our year, so I can stop thinking about it! thanks again Angela
