  1. On Netflix they have a feature that allows you to rate movies that you have seen and from that they give you suggestions of other movies you might like. They are not always on target with their recommendations but they try :). Also, I second Juno and Waitress (although Waitress made me cry for like 24 hours afterward because of the real-life tragedy surrounding the writer/co-star Adrienne Shelly).
  2. Hi Emily, Could you clarify what kind of program you mean? Would it be like special classes/care during church services or are you meaning a program on another day besides Sunday? At our church we have had parents who can never go to the services because they have to stay with their special needs dc - I think it would be wonderful to offer skilled individuals who could care for special needs children so that parents could participate more with church services and feel comfortable leaving their dc. I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind, but just a thought I had.
  3. I would shop around for more futons and especially the mattresses - I think the mattress makes (or breaks) a futon. Some futons are uncomfortable but a futon with a high quality mattress and a really pretty cover could be just what you're looking for.
  4. This is what they taught us to do for preschoolers at my ds's co-op years ago. ITA with other posters who recommend being very specific and firm. And definitely take a day for yourself - you so deserve it!
  5. We went, it was really LOUD. No chance for sleeping - I tried :D. Ds7 really, really loved it and is currently playing clone wars on the den floor.
  6. :grouphug: to you and your dd. At least the doctors are on top of it. Keep us updated on how she is doing... I know it is scary.
  7. Well, this is good news for us because my ds is a little kid and he has been counting down the days until it opens. I have been worried about the content though.
  8. I agree, I have noticed this and it bugs me. I even saw something listed (not here but on a different list) that was above the price for it new on amazon! Maybe people don't check around before pricing their items? I will say that on WTM I have only purchased one thing and it was a great deal!
  9. This idea was in our paper this week (I forget the name, something like banana dog): spread a whole wheat hot dog bun with peanut butter and sprinkle with wheat germ or sunflower seeds, place a peeled banana in the bun as you would a hot dog and add a thin squirt of jam Yum!
  10. We enjoyed Mudpies to Magnets and More Mudpies to Magnets and for something a little more formal we used R.E.A.L. Science.
  11. My ds has a peanut butter and honey sandwich for lunch. Every day. If he's extra hungry it will be accompanied by a bowl of fruit or yogurt.
  12. I have a subscription to HEM and really, really like it. It is secular, don't know if that matters to you or not.
  13. If the trike was in your driveway and they drove onto your driveway and ran over it, then I think YES they should replace it!
  14. I just got the scholastic book clubs catalog in and they have a book called Schooled by Gordon Korman. Has anyone seen/read this?! The description: "Homeschooled Cap has never watched TV, eaten a pizza - or even had a friend! How will he fit in at a regular middle school?" :banghead: :cursing: :banghead: Please tell me that you have read this book and it not as offensive as it sounds... I am already in an irritated mood today and I almost hurled the catalog across the room. :001_smile:
  15. Yay! So glad he arrived and everyone is doing well! Congrats!
  16. She is so cute! My dog's name is Piper! I really like the suggestion for Cookie...
  17. I have lost count but I rely HEAVILY on audiobooks - we spend a lot of time in the car. I think audiobooks are the bees' knees. :D
  18. To clarify - K12 PHONICSWORKS Readers.
  19. We used K12 phonics readers at this stage. I got them used on ebay - they were GREAT. I don't know how available they are but I would highly recommend them. They are simple (not flashy) with black and white illustrations and increase in difficulty slowly as you move from one to the next. We didn't have the whole program - just the readers. (I actually just checked ebay and there are some on there! Yay!)
  20. Any way to put it in writing, like via email? This way you can document his non-response to the higher ups.
  21. You are not whining! I have had to wear a holter monitor on many occasions! I have congenital heart problems and have had a pacemaker since I was 6yo. It will be good to get to the bottom of what is going on with your dd. Did you say she is seeing a pediatric cardiologist? I will be thinking about you, your family and your dd. I know it is scary but you are doing the right thing by pursuing it and finding out what is going on. :grouphug:
  22. We homeschool for so many reasons I can't list them all and a lot of our reasons have been listed already, but mainly... No one else can possibly be as invested in my son's success in learning as his parents. I like to be around him and enjoy learning with him. He is different in a number of ways and I think he would not have a peaceful, happy life in a school setting. You can't beat a custom tailored, one-on-one education.
  23. I definitely stick with the salon and spa where I get my hair done because I feel much more comfortable about the health standards followed there. They don't wear masks and they talk to me and are friendly. I only get manis and pedis about once every 5 years :001_huh: so when I do I go for the nice place. It cost about $75 earlier this summer when I went in advance of a wedding I was in. It was a big-time splurge!
