  1. Thanks, doesn't sound like very high priase for VIE! ;) I will look at your other suggestions for grammar. Trying to figure out where to go after FLL3. Guess we could stick with FLL4 but since we aren't doing WWE4 thought I would switch it allup
  2. I know Kolbe uses the old version of Voyages in English. Can anyone compare with the newer version from Loyola Press? Any reviews on the version Kolbe uses? I plan to use Classical Composition (Memoria Press/Kolbe) is this just grammar? It seems to be also some writing? I am torn between VIE and the Memoria Press new grammar (we are starting Latina Christiana). I know MP says with latin you can do a lighter grammar but worried their new one won't be enough. We have done FLL1-3 up to this point.
  3. Does anyone know if thee is a place online to see the inside of Spelling Workout? Or a placement test? I would like to try it as a supplement for my (just turned) 9 year old. He struggles with spelling. Spelling Workout was recommended to me. i would like to see the inside and I have no idea where to place him. Anyone have an experiences using this with a mildly dyslexic child?
  4. This is our plan for 4th as well, but may wait until 6th for WWS
  5. We have a Ford Expedition with captain chairs in the first two rows and a three person bench seat in the back row. it's a true 3rd row. Not a lot of storage space unless to get the extended version, but it's a great car, love it
  6. Another vote for Memoria Press with the DVDs
  7. Mom2the Team described it very well. We have used 1-3 and are doing something different for 4th grade. We really enjoyed them. There is overlap. We do narrations and copywork for science and history so we would sometimes skipped the FLL overlaping narrations. Ifyou are using the old FLL (combined 1 and 2 in one book) it is definetely not as streamlined. I think the newer versions have a lot less overlap
  8. We enjoy the Memoria Press guides
  9. We also don't like it There is so much non-fiction out there that is great I would much rather use that
  10. I did MP 3rd grade with two kids this year and we loved it. We do different spelling and math, and were only in Prima Laina but did everything else. I do think their science is light, and we supplement. The astronomy is only one one day a week so you could add in more if you wanted to (what we did because I have science crazy kids). We actually did Sassafrass too this year as well as other things. The Greek Myths is definitely not to be missed, it has been the highlight of my kids year. I have never done TOG so not sure how much work it would be to do both. However, to ease the load you could just read the myths and do the guide orally. We love the Christian Studies, I think it is outstanding and love the built in memory work. We are Catholic and also add in saint, liturgical and catechism to our religious studies. We do the MP bible study lesson on day a week, and the rest on another day. We do our memory work daily. Hope this helps, as I said I am not familiar with TOG but we love MP.
  11. I would like to read Latin Centered Curriculum. Which edition should I get 1st or 2nd? Can anyone make a recommendation or explain the differences?
  12. I've used most of their 3rd grade. We do different math and spelling. We supplement the science. We have loved it all and plan to use most of 4th grade
  13. My son just turned 9. Weare just mow starting to let him go on his own, but it depends on where and I stillwait right outside. Some places he will go with me still. I don't see it as an issue of whether or not he's old enough to go independently or as being a helicopter parent. I see it as a safety issue
  14. You can also get the D'Aulaires' Greek Myths books on CD. Great for the car, may also be a good way to combine things...
  15. We are using and enjoying the MP one this year. You could do it orally if you wanted to try and do both. it has been great for my kids, they have really learned the stories.
  16. I agree with The Way Things Work Maybe Burgess Animal or Bird Book?
  17. Not sure if you are looking for non-fiction, but it is my favorite genre, so here are some of my picks: 1776 by McCullough, Theodore Rex by Morris (actually whole series), Flags of Our Fathers by Bradley, This Kind of War by Fehrenbech, We were Soldiers Once and Young by Moore Not all only US related, but definitely part of our history. for fiction I would add My Antonia and Last of the Mohicans to the list already discussed
  18. Just got mine yesterday! Excited to read the articles, already have a big order planned! :)
  19. Has anyone done any of these? I am interested in the beginner class for 4th graders
