  1. The book I have is "The Sensitive Child" by Janet Poland and I think the book Thoughtful Mama recommended is written by Elaine Aron. So I have one more book to add to my reading list. Thanks for all the suggestions!
  2. I have a little guy who is struggling with fine motor. Other than Legos and playdough what are some fun things I can do with him. He's little and there isn't a rush on acquiring skills but he wants to do more and physically can't at this point.
  3. DD, age 5, "Por favor. May I please, amabo te, have some aqua?" And when I handed it to her, " Gracias, xie xie, tibi gratis ago. " And a couple minutes later, "'Mommy, did you know that Latin is the mommy and Greek the daddy? And they got together and had a lot of kids like English and Spanish!"
  4. It's not really about whether he's qualified to teach up to a high school level though is it? It's about whether he's qualified and trained to work with gifted, asynchronous children. Ugh. Hugs Kiwik.
  5. Next year for history, I am going to draw from a variety of sources and plan to have 50 art projects/activities prepped that touch on pre-history and early history. We'll scrapbook pictures of the activities in chronological order as we go making a book that can act as a keepsake, historical timeline and review. If you want, I can PM you the activity list when I'm finished planning (it may be awhile). We'll do some of the recommended readings from STOW as well but I've learned not to tie readings to the activities. It's too much. Also, the STOW audio CDs are excellent and great for driving time so I would suggest looking into those.
  6. I am curious how others plan time to rejuvenate? Even afterschooling through fun activities gets old after awhile. We took the month of February off because I was burnt out and I thought the kids were as well. By the end of February, one of my kids was accusing me off not loving her anymore because we weren't doing Latin and other academic afterschooling things. I've decided to take advice from a friend and try doing five weeks on/two weeks off. My first break begins next week. I'm OK doing more crafts/hands on activities and letting the house go a bit because I see an end in sight and I am so excited to quilt, purge a room and do other things during the next two weeks. I think this may work for us. Any other ideas to keep the flame burning in us (parents) when we have so much else on our plates?
  7. We drive 20-30 minutes to school/20-30 minutes back again and listen to audio books or music that we are studying in the car (this includes fun language CDs). I feel like its worth it. The school does great covering what I struggle to teach and my teaching strengths are the school's weaknesses. My preschooler often naps in the car and having a chance to be still during the day and listen to a CD is nice. I feel that I've trade "quantity" for "quality" in regards to time with my eldest by putting her in school. We enjoy each other more when we have sometime apart.
  8. When DD was 3 she wanted to be a writer. Now, she wants to be a unicorn and an animal rescuer. DS, age 3, wants to be an adult. :)
