  1. We're stopping all extra night and weekend activities not for monitary reasons, we're just slowing down big time. We were running here and there just about every night of the week, sometimes two places a night. Sure my kids were enjoying their activities and there was some value to them, but I was finding they were just going, doing their thing and leaving, not making any lasting relationahips with these kids. We were not doing as many home school events and activies as we were so busy. This coming fall we're not signing up for anything, except one sport each, and non-competative. A good book to read(helped me not feel too guilty) was Under Pressure: Rescuing Our Children from the Culture of Hyper-Parenting.
  2. That's it!! I have been racking my brain trying to figure out who that was.
  3. I picked maybe, I'm in no way 100% sure. We don't own a microwave anymore, it went with all my kitchen plastic, it is part of my plan to get my family healthier. No more kitchen plastics, microwaves, processed foods(really hard!!), or tinned foods(except Eden). :001_smile:
  4. We used to do TWTM almost to the book, I'd say about 100%. After a few years I just outgrew it I think and my kids were not enjoying it at all. The only things we really follow are history and science chronologically, but in a very relaxed way. It makes so much more sense to me than learning bits and pieces of history all willy-nilly. So I say about 30%, maybe even less now.
  5. Should have posted this here I think, instead of the curriculum board. I have been looking at Singapore Science for grades 7 and up. Has anyone here used any of them and what did you think? How do-able were they at home experiment wise? Thanks
  6. Sorry, for me it is content from a Canadian publisher with a Canadian view, not American. There is more Canadian-made home school curriculum made now than when we first started home schooling. I am often so envious of the American home school resources available, be they secualr or religious.
  7. I am glad to read that, I am too using more and more living books. I would so rather spend my money on a good library-at-home(my biggest addiction) than curriculum now. Thanks to all that have replied to the poll!
  8. Over the years I find myself getting more and more bored with the curriculum that is out there, especially what is availabe for Canadians. I find I am just putting together my own, or totally adapting what I do end up buying. Plus I find it is really fun doing our own thing. Anyone else?
  9. I didn't think so either, it always surprises me to read that people think it is from a secular point of view.
  10. I wish they made a Canadian series lol. I ordered the Explorers for this fall, looks like a lot of fun.
  11. So sad all around! We have guinea pigs, they are such wonderful little pets. Hope your little ones feel happier soon.
  12. LOL...I made it all the way back to 28(I'm 42), but the next day I was 52!! :willy_nilly:
  13. Crafty Crow is a great site!! She featured our totem poles a few days ago that we made while we were following the eIditarod .
  14. I gave up trying to add Canadian History into SOTW, so decided to just do it as a separate subject, mainly reading aloud, videos, and field trips. I plan on doing two rotations through Canadian History. I found a few spines that go through the history of Canada chronologically and added in other books, novels(fiction & non-fiction), videos and such as we moved along. Here is a list of the books we have read so far from my blog, we're up to the Loyalists and Canada after the American Revolution. We're in no rush, just taking our time enjoying the books we've found so far. You'll see I don't keep track of day-by-day reading anymore, just the books we read. Also I have some good Canadian links on my sidebar of the blog. Hope the list helps :001_smile:
  15. I downloaded this awhile back, it looked very intresting. I downloaded the one that goes with E.H. Grombirich's book and has the prehistory. Do you know anyone that has used it yet and what their thoughts were about it? I am excited for the Middle Ages to be completed.
  16. My older daughter used it from grades 8-12, older son used it from Singapore Math 5 through NEM 1, younger ones from J/K to going on Singapore Math 4 and 6 this fall. Great math programme!!
  17. Thanks, I will check out the site. I am hoping I'll love this system better than all the chemicals I was using. This is the one I have, Krystal Clean.
  18. Canadian Tire here in Ontario. Thanks so much, I'll look into those timers.
  19. Gotta question, anyone know anything about these systems? How have you liked them? Wondering if I have made more work for myself getting it than just the regular pool routine? :confused1: I bought one today to go with our pool(16'x48'), I have attached it to our current pool pump as it says to, added salt, now just waiting until tomorrow to turn the baby on. Now it says our current pump only needs to run the 4 hours the Krystal Clear system needs to run. After it has done its thing you can turn the pool pump off and the KC system will go into dorment mode until I assume 24 hours passes and it starts again. Here's the thing...our pump does not have an on/off switch, so I'd have to unplug it. Will it ruin the KC system if say we are not home or whatever and don't get the pool pump on? Thanks for any help, cd and book don't really say anything much about it, just that an error will show.
  20. We liked the Golden Goblet story in the end, but my kids did not like that the poor boy was beaten by his brother. So if you have sensitive or younger kids, may want to save it for future reading. Ancient Egypt in Fiction for Children Also check out this site, it has a lot of books.
