  1. This is hands down one of the most eye-opening, helpful posts I've read. (((Thank you)) for sharing this! :grouphug: OP-I'm sorry you're having a rough go of it. I have no advice, but wanted you to know I can REALLY relate! :grouphug: I'm sure this thread has helped MANY moms (and dads!).
  2. My dd is using ACE Biology w/the Lab DVD only and is loving it. The PACES can be used w/o the whole DVD set; they are not dependent on the dvds for scheduling. I think to cut down on cost the 101 dvds would be a great addition.
  3. For a struggling 5th grader, who has basic math facts down, which book should I buy first? TIA
  4. I'm curious how that looks in your homeschool. Do you write your own lesson plans? Do you read, then narrate, write or discuss and call it good? TIA!
  5. I remember Seton carries this. They also carry the answer key and other levels.
  6. Honestly, I keep trying to piece Sonlight cores together, and each time, I end up spending more money, time and stress than it's worth. It's totally doable, but comes at a cost. My best advice if I were in your shoes? Find the IG used, then buy books new from Amazon, using their buy 4, get one free program. OR, buy a new IG and buy new from either SL or Amazon what you will need for *each trimester* at a time. IOW-buy what you need for the 1st trimester, then as times draws closer, buy what you need for the 2nd semester.
  7. If you haven't read this site, it may be worth it. There is a ton of info which should address your situation. If it were me, I'd reduce the amount like you mention, before giving it up. If it continues, contact your compounding pharmacist and he/she should be able to help.
  8. I'm confused. Do you mean she earned credit for work from one curriculum, then more from a different one, and you're wondering how to give credit overall for this?
  9. Again, I'm not defending him, but wanting to share my (humble) view..... I do think he wishes and desires that he's able to compete again, but I'm still not convinced it is the motivating factor for the interviews. He is a smart guy and highly doubt he expects to make this grand confession and in return, be given a free pass. He says very frankly why he was doing the interview now and not sooner. The story broke, his teammates testified against him, his sponsors(rightly) dropped him and as the finale, LSF said it would be best if he stepped down as chairman. The final straw, was that his oldest son(13yo) was defending Lance-at school, on social media, etc. and he said it was time to come clean and do it in the way he did. He just told his family over the holidays. All damage has been done, and it was time(his words) to confess to the world. Too late, but still needed to be done. As the control freak he is, with his life hitting rock bottom, maybe the interview was an attempt to continue to orchestrate "the story" and the outcome. He did address his lying, his deceit, his being dishonorable, his sick need to hyper control everything in his life. He repeatedly said he is incredibly flawed. And no, I didn't mean he's a drug addict, just that his behavior and attitude is exactly like an addict. I sat in on plenty of 12-step groups and his story seemed like any addict's story. His upbringing, feeling abandoned, wanting to have control in his childhood, turning to swimming/cycling/running/training as a way to medicate his flaws. His abuse of power and people, then his continued lies and feeling justified. Actually, after watching the interview again today, and reading more news stories, I think he should be able to compete again. Every other winner of the grand tours has been busted for doping-they all have been given banned and financial punishments, with the bans being anywhere from 6 mos-2years. Contador(sp?) won TDF, was busted, blamed it on tainted steak and was slapped with a meager 6 month ban. The UCI is so corrupt and over and over make up the rules as they go along and I do think they are unfairly "making an example of" Lance. There are no checks and balances, maybe better now in 2013, but certainly not until very recently and they are quite minimal. His comments of "we" I don't view as dismissive at all. "We" refers to his team, managers, publicist, lawyers, etc. He's a jerk and personally, I think his biggest punishment should be coming from LSF and how he lied soooo much time and again, to people who were clinging to his cancer survivor story and those trying to raise money for research. Ha! Waay too much time on my hands today! >blush<
  10. Not defending the guy, just giving some insight..... Lance was raised by a single Mom, no Dad in the picture at all, no siblings. Dirt poor. Very intense personality from a young age in addition to an usual competitive nature. A mom and pop bike shop owner took him in and basically kept Lance busy, screwing around on bikes, and eventually racing. He had to work to own his own bike. His early recreational bike racing kept him out of trouble on the streets. At an incredibly young age he caught the attention of others for being "fiercely competitive" as a swimmer, then eventually racing bikes around the local tracks. He wasn't mr nice guy, he was a kid who loved to compete, control and win. As he took racing to a higher and higher level, he gained the reputation for being a tough a$$ competitor, who was rarely beatable. However, he was also known for being the guy to train the hardest and longest-he actually worked physically hard for his wins. That didn't change when he turned pro-anyone at that level of racing described him as the first one on the bike, the last to get off-he was a very, very hard and tough worker. He's also (obviously) ruthless. But, and this is where most people-including-if not especially.... the media, still don't get, is that era of professional cycling he entered into, was already riddled with heavy, constant doping and corruption. Every one was doping, and covering it up. What Lance did, was beat cancer, dope, then win TDF, then lie. Repeat seven times. Like the US culture elevates baseball and football players to super-human status, Europe does that to the max with cycling. I don't view him as a "sociopath." I view him as an arrogant, ruthless, mentally sick....addict. His profile fits that of a severe drug addict, really. Not a narcissist, either-not in the true definition, though definitely has many traits. Lacking morals, for sure. This type of personality-ruthless, extremely intense, control freak and fiercely competitive, all together and in the corrupt world of European cycling, ALL of it combined with fame and fortune, became so big, ugly and far-reaching, that, imho, made for a recipe of deceit to anyone and everyone. No matter the cost. I honestly don't see how anyone can view his interview and come away thinking he wasn't being honest and feeling remorseful. He put himself down several times, admitted to being a complete failure, admitting that his actions and line of thinking were sick-and said he is STILL that sick guy. He apologized. He also admitted to NOT liking the fact that he was busted. How much more transparent could he be? He's a sick guy. His actions were unethical, immoral and fraudulent. And he says he realizes that, though not entirely. His apologies seemed sincere. Did his body language convey that? I don't think they didn't! This is a guy who was put on a very, very high pedestal and has been entirely knocked off. Of course he's going to squirm! Of course he's going to grind his jaw and smirk, though I believe his now famous smirks were more nervous and embarrassed laughs. He cringed in both horror and shame. Why do the interview? It's not because he hopes to race again. (Though he admits he WANTS to race, because that's who he is-a competitor-that;s all he's ever done!) He's been given a lifetime ban from ALL sanctioned racing, whether it be cycling, running or triathlons. *I* think he did the interview because he hates the European press and, the American journalists who have been (rightly!) on his case for YEARS, and they are bombarding him, especially as the civil suits roll in. Oprah seemed the lesser of the media evils in his mind. But, I also think that there is about to be heads rolling with the UCI, as they are mafia-corrupt. I'm betting Lance will attempt to make deals-and everyone will get their fair share of being busted as well. He will name names and it will be ugly. Confession over, apologies made. He has only his money left, which I think should be GIVEN to LIVESTRONG Foundation. So, yeah, that's what I think.
  11. Ditto, but we never get the vax, some years we've gotten the Flu, others we haven't.
  12. What about an air-humidifier? We're in the thick of it, and I find the warm mist comforting.
  13. Pardon my ignorance, but I'm still not understanding. Do you put the HP on a swab and swipe your ears? Or do you actually drip it into the ear canal?
  14. This is so good to hear! Thanks for sharing! I've read so many glowing reviews about JI, and I bet if you contacted them they would point you in the right product direction. Good luck!
  15. I've been looking into Mineral Makeup, also. I spent some time researching online and have it narrowed down to these three, although will probably go with the first, since there is a local day spa which carries this line and they will show me how to apply it for $20 along with a skin consultation. From my understanding, you do pay a bit for these, but they last a long time and are good/nourishing for your skin. I figure if it works, is good for my skin, has a money-back guarantee, and I know how to apply it, then it's worth the extra money. My middle age weight gain & wrinkles caught up all at once. ;) Jane Iredale Purely Cosmetics Alima Pure
  16. So I just learned my baby sister will be hsing my 4yo niece for Preschool, then Kindergarten and possibly the whole way through. :hurray:  Sis taught Kindergarten for six years before becoming a mom, but she's asking me to lead her in the direction of a Bible/Christian-based curriculum. She lives in the middle of nowhere USA, with the closest library about an hour away. No access to co-ops, either. I've always used lit-based curricula(FIAR & SL) but I'm not sure that style is going to be a good fit. She's also wanting a good Bible curriculum since my little niece doesn't attend Sunday School. Money is an issue-very, very tight. If it makes a difference, my younger niece just turned one yo. :001_wub: TIA! :001_smile:
  17. Yes. It also sounds like bowel-endo. :grouphug: An ultrasound is useless in determining Endo. The *only* tool to diagnose it is to have an exploratory Laparoscopy.
  18. :grouphug: Please find a new doctor. This approach to the possibility of Endo is extremely negligent, and reveals significant ignorance. Had I listened to uneducated advice like that, I'd be dead. OOps-let me find a helpful link.....http://www.vitalhealth.com/
