  1. I've added Boundaries by Townsend for Emotional health and The Stress Reduction Workbook for Mental health.
  2. I'm dreadfully exhausted, so unable to quote ya'll. (((Thank you)) for clarifying and sharing your own experiences and .02! Much appreciated! :grouphug:
  3. *Years* ago, when MM first hit the boards, I remember a WTMer adjusting the font, so it must be doable!
  4. Well I certainly don't want to short change my ds at all. Maybe he could do it, but I am quite leery in trying anything right now since I feel responsible for my oldest dc's failures in higher maths. >cringe< However, I personally think maturity has played an enormous role in his math-abilities, so who knows?!
  5. My ds is more than a year behind his upcoming grade level, so we're trying MM to see how much he can catch up this summer. In Cathy Duffy's review, she refers to MM as appropriate for strong math students and mentioned there wasn't a lot of help for parents (like me) who aren't strong in math, trying to help their dc. (Fyi-paraphrasing, here!) :) Hmm, this could be! I think I'll take a look at more samples.
  6. Not fun? Lacking....Joy? Oh, ladies, we've also used >gasp< Rod & Staff. Nuff said? ;) :D
  7. Elizabeth, a huge THANK YOU!! :hurray: :hurray: THANK YOU!! Good for Sandi Queen! I had no idea about this book, but I did know she sells herbal remedies. Those first three books I have and love them. Okay, now thing is, some of these topics overlap with dd's Home Ec course, and now I have even more ideas! Yay! Thank you!! :grouphug: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I also see that many titles mentioned can be viewed on Netflix, which would be great for my non-reader! My gosh, what could anyone else add?? :grouphug:
  8. Yes! Thank you for reminding me! That is an awesome book and one I do consider a must read. :hurray: Totally COOL book! :D Thanks! Yes, exactly! Great suggestions! I love me some Barbara Kingsolver! ;)
  9. Our ds is currently enjoying & learning from a few topics from the Blue Series. I don't think we are candidates for the yearly curriculum since ds is so far, a below to average math student, and I am not strong in math. >cringe< But I must admit, I do enjoy learning alongside my ds and a good deal of MM's approach does click with both of us! OTOH, we are both stumped when it comes to MM's word problems! IMHO, they are tough! >blush< We both need step-by-step instructions for those pesky word problems, which I cannot find in MM. Is there anything else missing from MM, in your opinion?
  10. She will be using the revised, 2012 ABeka Health and I want to supplement with books which fall under these categories. Sex Education (we've had both formal & informal talks along with reading books-but nothing too recently) Nutrition/Fitness (we don't follow or agree with the USDA or their Food Pyramid.) Mental Health-Depression/Anxiety/Eating Disorders.....??? Emotional Health Spiritual Health- We are protestant Christians. She's read some Christian teen "Self Help/Non-Fiction" type books, so she's not utterly clueless but I will say that she's not a reader, so nothing too long or deep, please. ;) Oh-some books she read when she was 13-14, but would really benefit from reading them again. I'll try to post those particular books as soon as I can. :) Okay, here are books she's either read(not recently!) and/or we own..... Nobody Told Me B4UD8 the Truth about Guys The Truth About Dating, Love & Just Being Friends God's Will, God's Best for Your Life The Power of a Praying Teen A Young Woman After God's Heart The Anxiety Workbook for Teens My Anxious Mind TIA! ETA- Oops-I forgot to add her age! She's 16. :)
  11. (((Thank you)) each of your replies has been so helpful!! I'll definitely read these again to allow more processing. >huge grin<
  12. Especially as they relate to learning & retaining math concepts & skills. I've read how people choose a spiral curriculum otherwise their dc forget what they previously learned. So then I read how others choose a mastery program to then discover later that their dc had forgotten previously learned material. I remembering calling the contact number for Winston Grammar, seeking more info about the program. The lady(author?) I spoke with at length, shared how she felt that following the lesson format as described, provided the best results, since dc "Give their brains the chance to transfer from short-term to long-term memory." It made sense as she was explaining it, and we did experience great success with WG. (The format was learning a new grammar concept on Monday, then practicing a few sentences T-F. IIRC, there was maybe a quiz on Friday?) So as my dc have hit various math walls over the years, I'm wondering how much of it was (is!) due to memory issues or if I simply choose poor-fitting programs. Then I think about approaches, such as RC, where math is being taken in (studied) for two solid hours. Would that not allow enough time to process from short-to-long term memory? (We don't use RC, but I've definitely had our dc work anywhere from 1-3 lessons/day.) Thoughts? TIA!
  13. Caddies Woodlawn Moccasin Trail Little Britches Ben and Me Blood On the River Phoebe the Spy Turn Homeward, Hannalee William Bradford Pilgrim Boy The Cabin Faced West The Great Turkey Walk ETA-Oops, just read your dc ages....I crossed off ones which would be best for dc slightly older.
  14. :cursing: Doesn't surprise me one bit. P@rn is accessible with library computers. Regularly, in our libraries, p*rnographic images are left in the printers or copy machine. I'm so glad you found that before your dc. :grouphug:
  15. I 100% understand!! :grouphug: Here are two Consumer Math programs I have my eye on. CLE and ABeka
  16. Here is a blog with lots of healthy, easy snacks.
  17. I just wanted to come back and say (((thank you))) for your suggestions and btdt! Things are going much smoother than I imagined! yay! :hurray:
  18. I recently asked a similar question. Here is the thread. :)
  19. My far away friend just lost her Mom and I'm writing a sympathy card. When it became definite that Mom was going to die, my friend requested prayers. I've written a short, encouraging note and would like to include a Bible verse, yet don't want to sound over the top, IYKWIM. TIA! :(
