  4. We are enjoying Bible studies from Simply Charlotte Mason. Simple & cheap, but no color, though.
  5. CLE Bible & Math Apologia's Zoology 3 Sonlight Cores D & E (History & Lit) combined with ACE's American History PACES (strange marriage, I know!) 6. thanks! not the OP, here, but i'm wanting to learn how to crochet. beth in tx does have really good videos!
  7. sorry to hijack... did you mean beth in tx? i'm not finding becky in tx on youtube. thx!
  8. Sonlight is currently having a special on three books for Advent. Scroll down that page as they just added a few more books!
  9. I'm needing a curriculum which teaches vocab & grammar first, instead of speaking phrases/immersion approach. My dd (junior) is very easily overwhelmed trying to learn a foreign language. She's stated that she needs to understand what the words mean first, before she can use them in phrases/greetings/sentences. We tried The Learnables, Mango and Duolingo- she cannot stand these immersion approaches. I'm now considering-- First Start French So You Really Want to Learn French Breaking the Barrier (ipad version) I would love feedback on these programs, or a different one is fine, too. Thank you! eta- i took french in hs and college, and am confident i can help with year 1....just trying to get her past the intimidating factor at this point. thx...
  10. Have you asked her why she doesn't like school? Given her age, maybe you can include little fun things for her to do in between lessons. Like little breaks which include little things she enjoys doing. I have a friend who's included "Student Highlights" into her homeschool. She basically has each of her dc choose their best work from the week and it is displayed with fun magnets on the fridge door on Fridays. Or, you can do what I did when my dc were around that age. I added lunch and recess on their schedules, then when asked by various people, they had an answer, "Recess!!" ;)
  11. My dd has struggled with math, puts up with history, likes science & creative writing, and loathes reading. ;) This is what she enjoyed for 10th gr- Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 Notgrass Exploring World History (excluding the literature) A.C.E. (School of Tomorrow) Biology Essentials in Writing Lightning Lit 8th grade plus a few electives....
  12. She doesn't know how to read music, so we are talking basics. I'll take a look at that site. Thank you!
  13. This dd LOVES to sing, has a beautiful voice, and remembers lyrics amazingly well. Since she's never formally studied music, what type of course would make a great starting point? Theory? History? Appreciation? Any suggestions for an affordable program is greatly appreciated. Thank you! 1page **eta** We do not follow WTM for HS, if that matters....
  14. Informally, 3rd-5th grades, using Primary Language Lessons, Intermediate Language Lessons, Grammarland and WWE. Formally, 6th grade, using A.C.E. PACES and Winston Basic.
  15. I need suggestions for a Manuscript instruction & practice work text for 12yo ds. I really don't think he had enough practice with printing before I had him start cursive. He starts his strokes/letters from the bottom up and after the years, this has developed into sloppy writing. (FYI-he will begin keyboarding this school year, but really has no interest in being on computers for any reason.) I can only find workbooks which are geared toward K-2nd and he will not go for that. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
  16. Please share what you prefer and why. I see advantages to both print & digital, what do you think? Thanks in advance!
  17. You'd think I'd have strong opinions on this by now, but nope! Please share your preferences and thanks in advance!
  18. On a simpler note, it could be that she needs to mature a bit more. Nothing wrong with that! Even a few months can make a huge difference.
  19. Hi, I'm wondering which levels of BJU DVDs you've used? Thanks! :)
  20. Thanks! Okay-Your first link led me to Jann's boot camp. :D Oohh and her Boot Camp sounds good! No, no, nothing wrong with her eyes at all. When she was in PS during middle school, she insisted on reading garbage the librarian displayed front and center. Books like The Clique which should be banned from any school library. ;) That plus her age and both of us being stubborn began what I refer to as our own little, private, literary war. She went on reading strike. :001_rolleyes: :o Overall she just doesn't like to read. Oh, I'm sure a shallow, teenage romance book she'd gobble up, but anything else is only read when I put my foot down. Her learning style is auditory, then kinesthetic. (sp?) I think!
  21. She isn't a reader, so something online-website?-would be best, though a book with step-by-step explanations that are crystal clear would be great. TIA !
