Although we dabbled with Latin in 2nd and 3rd we weren't consistent at all. We really started Latin instruction properly at the end of 4th grade with LfC. I'm planning to do the same with the other kids as well.:)

Book A Week in 2010 - Book Week Three
Sara Mac replied to Robin M's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have had to move Richard Dawkin's Greatest Show on Earth down my reading pile. I'm about 200 pages in to it but then an ILL for Bernard Cornwell's The Pale Horseman came in. When there's a new Bernard Cornwell book waiting to be read everything else can wait :D -

I loved the whole Assassin's series and the Tawny Man series (Golden Fool etc...) I think I'm about due to re-read these ones this year :D OH, and if you do enjoy the Robin Hobb books then another author you may like is Juliet Marillier - I love my fantasy fictions  -
Book a Week in 2010 - let's begin

My first book is Brethren by Robyn Young. It's about the Crusades but written from both the Eastern and Western point of view. I'm only 100 pages in but I'm going to try to finish by Saturday. I'm on an Historical Fiction kick at the moment so I've got another Bernard Cornwell sitting waiting for me once I've finished this book :D -
Knitters: I'm overwhelmed by Ravelry!!
Sara Mac replied to rowan25's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm sooo glad you posted this :D I joined a month or so ago when i saw it mentioned on here and was totally befuddled and lost on that site. Now that I've read everyone's reply to yur request for help I've managed to navigate around patterns, add to my stash and queue projects. OK, so I've spent most of the afternoon on there but wow! what an awesome site :001_smile: -
Its Christmas here.....Merry Christmas
Sara Mac replied to Peela's topic in General Education Discussion Board
kids were up at 5am but managed to be kept occupied by stocking contents until 5:45. All presents are open and they're all off playing with their presents. Turkey was cooked last night so i just need to whip up a few salads and we're all set for lunch. I love easy Christmasses :D -
I'm impressed! They look super warm and comfy. I'd really love to have a go at knitting socks (once I get over that whole knitting rounds thing). I think you've inspired me to give it a go :001_smile:

Loads of "Home Ec" Questions...
Sara Mac replied to kbpaulie's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I used to use these vacuum bags quite a bit but found that they seem to re-inflate after a few months. What I ended up doing was grabbing a large black bin liner, sticking the kids clothes in there and then sucking the air out with the vacuum cleaner. Does the same job and costs next to nothing. The garbage bags have never seemed to re-inflate by themselves (one has been sitting there all squished for at least 18 months). You do have to work out the knack of tying off the bag without letting anymore air in at the same time but it is very do-able :001_smile: -
Do you get a physical exam once a year?
Sara Mac replied to lulubelle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: That is the reason I now no longer have a family doctor, if you don't visit them at least once in 3 years they drop you off their patient list :001_huh: -
knitting plans for 2010?
Sara Mac replied to CalicoKat's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I've got an irrational fear of dpns and circular needles that I really need to get over :tongue_smilie: It seems every pattern I find recently needs a circular needle or dpns, like these magic mittens The pattern seems easy enough it's just the whole knitting in the round thing that turns my stomach -
If you could go anywhere in the world in January?
Sara Mac replied to danybug's topic in General Education Discussion Board
England, Ireland, Norway, Russia - really anywhere that's cold :001_smile: Can you tell I *hate* summer  -
Mine was a long-sleeved dress too http://intocamelot.com.au/fairytale.html in white/silver. Everyone seems to have the same dress and the same flowers. There's no individuality. Strapless dresses really aren't my thing and I cringe when I see shots from the back with people wearing strapless dresses regardless of how slim or heavy they are. I really can't stand that bit of back flesh that seems to roll over the top of the dress. But when it comes down to it, if you like the dress then wear the dress - it's you r day to enjoy as you see fit :)

When is it rude and when is it curiousity?
Sara Mac replied to Tutor's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: too. My 9yo dd and 4yo ds are both very loud and outgoing yet whilst shopping last week we saw a young lady in a wheelchair. Her body and arms were only the size of a 5yr old and her legs were about the size of a 2yo's legs. All three of my children saw the lady as we walked past and not one of them said a word about it! After we had walked a bit further I casually mentioned (very quietly) her difference in appearance in case any of them wanted to ask me about her yet although they had all observed this lady and had noticed that she was different they just seem to accept that people have differences. Difference in hair colour, difference in skin colour or difference in body all have the same impact to them. -
Do girls play with Legos?
Sara Mac replied to ChristusG's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I can sympathize with that except I was an only child and when I was 15 or 16 my Mum gave away all my lego (and my dinky cars) to my nephew!! I still haven't forgiven her and she knows it LOL. Every time I buy a new set of lego for my daughters, my mum comments that I'm trying to recover my lost lego  -
What were your Thanksgiving food hit or misses?
Sara Mac replied to Cricket's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Wow! Chocolate & avocado :001_huh: That's one strange combination. -
Have you heard about Tiger Woods?
Sara Mac replied to Margaret in GA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: When I first read the report in our local paper, I wondered just how he was meant to be having an affair with this other woman. It was allegedly when he was staying in Melbourne with his mother!! -
My dh does this all the time. Every Sunday night he will make up 10 rolls or sandwiches and freeze eight of them. That way he has his lunch for the week, just pull out a couple of rolls in the morning, they defrost by lunchtime. He puts anything and everything in - ham, cheese and mayo; roast pork and apple sauce; spaghetti bolognaise. They all seem to work fine and don't go soggy.

Seriously, when did Australia become Oceania?
Sara Mac replied to gandpsmommy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'll join you in the confusion and I *live* in Australia. It used to drive me nuts when my dh would remark that Australia was a country, an island and a continent. My response was that Australia couldn't possibly be a continent because New Zealand and a myriad of little islands are part of the continent but certainly not part of this country. I switch between Oceania and Australasia when teaching my kids but I point blank refuse to call the whole continent Australia. :tongue_smilie:
