  18. I was told that for elementary it was about an hour per grade number they are in. I honestly think it is per child and what they can do 10-20 min on math 10-20 min on reading 5-10 on handwriting The rest is gravy for kids in the k-1st in my opinion.
  19. We do letter crafts where i draw the letter and we cut things from newspaper and or magazines that begin with that letter. We walk around the house and put postit notes on things that start with that letter sound. The foam abc in the tub are fun I give a sound and she puts them in the bag so we get a letter sound lesson and a tub with out toys!
  20. Read read and then read some more. Nature walks then make bug houses. For hands on I like a lot of the website notimeforflashcards.com I like leapfrog dvd's for teaching letter sounds. Hopscotch in the driveway and counting all the white houses or red houses on your walk. We do lots of hands ons cutting painting clay and playdough type activities.
  21. http://www.childcareland.com/filefoldergames.html We have printed a few from here
  22. I love the website notimeforflashcards.com It gives hands on crafts and books. I do things from homeschoolshare.com I have several baskets that are set up with things like clay with hidden treasures where you have to work the clay to get the object out (I have buttons in there) and I have a different number of them and so it becomes a math lessons to count them. I took the shape magnets from the dollar store and made matching game using 3x5 cards. I also used 3x5 cards and put the numbers 0-9 and have her use what ever objects to put on those cards to equal the number. We have books on tape that she listens to and when she is done she tells me the story in her words. We made a calendar with items from the dollar store and start our day talking about days weeks and months and numbers. We have used an empty sauce jar and filled it with items and guessed how many items were in there and then counted. We play lots of games that we get at yard sales thirft stores or as gifts such as LeapFrog Letterfactory game, Sequence for kids MightMinds Go fish and Blokus even candy land and chutes and ladders We have a basket of puzzles and we work on those and when she gets fast at it we turn them upside down and work on them with out using the picture and looking just for shapes that fit. We go out side and turn over rocks and play in the dirt with the worms and the bugs. We are going to get tadpoles and a butterfly house this spring
  23. We listen to stories (either me sitting and reading or via CD) while we are on the move. She is amazing at what she remembers. Some times we color or paint or play with playdough some time we are playing on an exercise ball or doing somersaults. I read the story and then I have her repeat it back to me to make sure that she is listening. Just a thought.
