  1. My dd and I play the "old" twister with a twist. We have to hop to one color jump, gallop roll skip or whatever movement she or I can think of. We also put numbers on it and do moving math games where right now she is doing her numbers but we have worked out an addition and subtraction element. Carol
  2. What I did to help my LO is went to the dollar store and bought the days of the week for a class room bulletin board and then laminated them and put velco on them and we change them every morning after breakfast. We learned number that way too because we made number and changed the date. Then after we change everything she says Today is Friday October 3rd and then tells what the weather is. We added the weather and she would look out side and say sunny and cold. Then she knows what clothes to pick out.
  3. What about sending your FIL to an adult day care? I dont know how much help she will need outside of the first few day and that way the boys would just have to spend the night there. In my area for an aid to come and stay at the house and help out (not an RN or CNA) it was 25 and hour during the day and 35 at night. Cost add up really fast. The adult day care around here comes and picks up the person and then drops them off at night and have specialized if your FIL has equipment to bring with him. I just lived with my ILs for about six weeks. My SILs didnt call or show up but sure complained about how things were handled (them not getting called and getting up dates and the the decision to put FIL back in a nursing home) You hubby and brothers need to do what is best for them as well as the parents. If their jobs are on the line they need to tell their mom that and that they are more than willing to help out at night but they need to keep their jobs. Good luck
  4. I was honestly wanting someone with experience say sorry your kid is "normal" I am not gifted I struggled in school and I dont know how I am going to keep up with her. The school districts where we live are not very good and she can do most of the things that kids need to know by the end of kindergarten anyway. Off to go and read the hoagies site
  5. Never thought about it that way! This kid is constantly on the move and why mama. She is very hands on and wants to do more school like the girls mama (our friends daughters) She wakes up asking for milk and projects. The kid doesnt seem to hear me when I call her five million times to come and take a bath but can pick instruments out when we listen to classical music (her uncle noticed that last night) I had already planned on home schooling her but I didnt plan on starting this fast. I thought I had a few years more before I figured out this stuff. It seems like I may be on a wild ride. Thanks
  6. How would one know if their child is gifted? Or does things even out in the end? I ask because my dd will be two at the end of this month and everyone is telling us she is a genius. I really dont think she is more advanced than most kids however she is my only and I spend 24/7 with her. She has about 400 ASL signs that she can do and or recognize. She can say the whole alphabet and recognizes the letters small and lower case and knows most of the letter sounds. She can count to 15 with out help and up to 60 with help she recognizes numbers up to 100 and knows the day of the week and several months. She can point to several states on the map including the state where she lives (on several different maps) she knows her shapes and colors. She loves to read and now is always want to do Spanish we play a spanish cd in the car and now anything with spanish she is soaking up. I think she is no more advance than any other child she just has the verbal skills that some kids dont have at her age. Thoughts? Opinions?
  7. I have a 20 month old that can do her abc's knows them by site and sound. She can count to 10. She has about 300 signs. She knows animals, sounds and geometry shapes. She loves playing with blocks puzzles and her USA map. She loves to color and "write". She does play dough and paint play in her rice or sand box. We have a container that has lotion in it for her make art in and draw (she cant use whipcream and I dont buy shaving creme but same idea) We are "teaching" fraction by having measuring cups in the bathtub and filling the cup with the other cups. We are teaching her responsibity by the fact that she picks up her own toys and brings her dishes to the sink. We keep everything a game. Even when we were making pancakes or blueberry muffins for breakfast she is doing it with us and we are talking about solids and liquids and cups and teaspoons ect. I dont know how much is sinking in but hearing the vocabulary is good enough for me. She also has been speaking in full sentences for a while. We are adding Mandrin as that is what her Aunt speaks and her cousins will be as well. This so far is just done via Muzzy watching the cartoon or having it on in th background while she is playing with her toys.
